Talking out loud to yourself is perfectly normal. Sometimes it's the only way people can sort out thoughts and ideas. If you know someone that talks out loud to themselves definitely dont see them as having a mental disorder. I know that I talk to myself when I'm stressed. A suggestion would be to ask if they want to talk about anything, if it seems like something is bothering them.

if you live on your own then no but if its worrying you try getting yourself a pet maybe a bird or a cat then you can talk to them instead of yourself so not making you feel as if your mad

It can be but doesn't have to be.If a person lives alone there is a tendency to talk to yourself, not all the time, especially if you do something wrong like dropping a bottle or upsetting something and you tend to call yourself all kinds of clumsy idiots or something like that. This doesn't make you mental. No I think you have to take a much wider view if you are trying to ascertain a persons mental state,

Heh, then a lot of people who talk to their plants, dogs, cats, birds, etc. are probably thought to have mental health disorders. I always talk to my cat--more so now, as she is pregnant. I yell loudly when I stub my toe, etc.--somehow it makes the pain subside. I yell at this computer when it freezes--and I yell at my TV when it gets all fuzzy due to wind or storm.

Nah, I wouldn't say that these are mental health issues--maybe anger management issues...

No, it is not. It is absolutely normal, many people myself included do it.
Sometimes if in the kitchen telling myself what to do next my husband calls out: "Whom are you talking to?" and my answer 'to myself' does not surprise him in the least.
I hold down a responsible job, and know from colleagues that they talk to themselves when at home.

Absolutely not.. However, if you ask a psychiatrist, he/she will probably tell you that that confirms you have schizophrenia and should take Risperidone or Olanzapine every day for the rest of life..

not necessarly... but if its a new behaviour... then you should ask if something is wrong... lots of people talk to themselves, myself included.. but i'd only start to worry if i answered myself..

No, many people do that.

Now, if they are arguing with themselves about a topic that seems dangerous, and losing the argument... well that is a sign of a mental disorder.

But talking to yourself when you are alone is a way to order your thoughts or make sure you understand what is happening around you. Very normal.

No, it is not. I do it all the time, and know other people who do this also, especially those of us who live alone. Human beings are a communicative species, if you don't get enough stimulation from other people you talk to, it's very normal to talk out loud to yourself. After all, we talk to ourselves in our heads all the time, what's the difference if it's out loud.
