I am scared to die at the age of 15?
Well I'm 15 years old and I cannot sleep and night because I have types of panic attacks cause I am terrified to die. I know people say live life to the max but I can't knowing that this will all end. I am 15 and I know I shouldn't be thinking like this

Dude, i thought the same thing the other day and I solved the problem by thinking like this: "If God is real, I might not have led a great life, but good enough to go to purgatory and eventually heaven. If he is not real then thats OK too. Death might not be good but it is not bad because you cannot feel anything. Besides, when you die you wont have any more worries or panic attacks"

go see one of those people to talk to when you have problems.... not sure what they're called but you lie on a chair and they talk to yuou writing all sorts of stuff down. =]

I had this problem when I was 18 I only got it at night before I went to sleep and I had a panic attack that I was not going to wake up and die in my sleep, I know it doesnt help when people tell you to enjoy life as you are having irrational thoughts that you have no control over, it seems you may be suffering from anxiety and you should go to the doctor, who should be able to help

You should ask your doctor about your panic attacks you experience at night. In the meantime, don't worry. You're not going to die. You'll be fine. Are you terrified to die because of your panic attacks?

You cannot die from a panic attack. Even though your heart is racing, it can cope with much much more.

You say 'I know I shouldn't be thinking like this' but actually there is no law that says you shouldn't. We are human beings not robots and we are not all the same, although I think you would be surprised how many people have periods of concerned thinking like you do. Your current concerns do not commit you to a lifetime of thinking like this. It may be a phase or you may need to talk with a trained counsellor. Either way don't be hard on yourself. You are not unusual.

Do breathing exercizes daily. Also, make sure you eat healthy and exercize a lot. Exercizing works great. Cleaning up your room and house helps too. But don't be afraid to think about it, let it out. If none of this works, seek professional help. But the truth is, we all die someday. It will be ok.

Well if you live your life right and do the right things then you shouldn't have a fear of dying. Maybe you should seek professional help to help you out with your problem! But you should sleep though because if you don't get sleep that's not healthy for your body and that could possibly cause death!

A tip that chould work is do sports. For example swimming, it can tire you out and you can go to sleep faster. Death isn't a bad thing, its natural. If you meant to die tomorrow, you will die. But your 15 years old, and you didnt that you have a illness, so I assme your healthy:) live life to the fullest, and just have fun. Good luck to you.

We all have to die at sometime that is what life is about . When we die we live forever in Heaven with no more pain , no more tears, no more upset or hurt. We all have this fear but it will not be bad

well at least you dont think your invincable like most youngsters of today! i think every one thinks about death at some time.have you had any recent traumas in your life? or is this just something you are afraid of? the trouble is the more you obsess about it the worse you will feel. life is a gift,and its up to you how you use it. try doing something positive with your life ,so you know your time here was not wasted.at 15 you have so much to learn ,explore and look forward to. set yourself a goal and achieve it. life is what you make it,so enjoy it while you can,and thank god for every day you are given!!

hi i really feel for you i am currently suffereing with anxiety and as you say i have an ongoing phobia of death/being ill i have had many heart exams as that was the route of my phobia all of which came back fine i am currently awaiting cognitive behaviour therapy and trying my best to keep on top of it please get help as you are very young and this is hard enough to deal with at 28 all the best x

I had the same problem when I was that age. I was so afraid of death what came after death that I would go into horrible panic attack where I could not think of anything else. The one thing that helped me was (and this may seem weird) there was no God. It helped me because it took care of the uncertainty which was I think what bothered me so much. My panic attacks would occur mostly at night and I took Ambien and that seemed to help also.

A professional could probably help you but they also cost money. Talk to a friend or maybe a guidance counselor at school or even a teacher.....they could probably help you better because you know them and they might be easier to talk to and they don't cost money.

Ask your parents if you could possibly see a psychiatrist/psychologist. Ask your pediatrician for a recommendation. These sort of things pass.

Who is closest to dying? Neither, we could both be dead in 10 minutes time but the overwhelming chances are that it will be me. Am I the most frightened? I should be but I'm not.

Death is simply the price we have to pay if we want to experience living. Living is an fascinating journey with all sorts of ups and downs, adventures, unhappiness, joys etc. Experience as much as you can along the road and learn from those experiences, and sometimes the best lessons come from the worst experiences!

A really bad experience in life for example is a great teacher.
I lost my daughter aged 9 in 1974, and no matter what this worlds flings at me [and I don't care how bad it is] it will not be as bad as that was...and I have overcome the pain and suffering of that, so I know beyond a shadow of doubt now that I can beat ANY new bad experience. Makes you feel invincible. So if life is tough at the moment try to gain strength from the experience. In the meantime it would be a great idea to see a doc and get medication or advice in how to handle it. I am only an ameteur.

Poor you, I have just started answering health questions and I feel a bit stupid because I am always suggesting St John's Wort. It helps tremendously if one is depressed, has panic attacks and is fearful.

Talk to your parents and ask them to get it for you. Someone once said that if we lived forever, there would be no urgency in life. Life is urgent and we must live it to the full.

Life always ends, however at your age this will not be sudden. Have you ever been so dreadfully tired that you long to go to sleep? I think that when one is ill they will long for death as they once longed for sleep. As well as taking St John's Wort you should ask your parents to get you some herbal sleeping tablets. We all have fear and worries, talk to your parents or see your doctor and ask for help. You need to talk to someone.

Relax. there are many things you can enjoy before you die, and your only 15, you have plenty of time. if you think negative thoughts (like what your question is) then there are chances that you might die young because you keep thinking about it (or at least thats what my mom told me). try to be a bit more positive and look on the brighter side of life and all of the possibilities that every day brings to you. I think about death sometimes and im only 14, but i think to myself that I want to live for a long time and i want to experience everything that life has to offer. And when i do die, i will have all of the memories of the great things i did and all of the people that loved me.

Life has alot to offer. you just have to open up to it and accept it.

Statistically this is not a common age to die. Everyone is afraid of death at some level some of the time. Your fears however seem pathological and it could be that you may even require some psychotherapy. Go have a chat with your GP, he can arrange a proper assessment.

it sounds to me like you have ocd (obessive compulsive disorder) because these thoughts are very irrational as ur only 15 and although we all worry about death from time to time to the extent that you are at such a young age is irrational. also ocd isnt just about handwashing or symmmetry-it can pick on anything and that usually is your biggest fear which for you thats death. and remember with ocd you dont have to have a compulsion to match your obessive thoughts and sometime ocd sufferers have mental compulsions to there thoughts but dont realise their compulsions because there not physical (like hand washers and checkers)

ocd and death fears are very common. paul gasgcoine (gazza-dont know how to spell his surname had them because of a friend dying when he was young) prehaps there is trigger that caused your fears in your head-prehaps not. i have ocd (not about death) and mine was caused by a trigger. try looking at the website www.ocduk.org and writing your fears there. im sure you'll get many replies from people that have exactly the same fears.

however im not a docter so i cant diagnose you with ocd. i could be wrong-it just sounds simillar from people with ocd who have had these irrational fears about death. whatever it is-unless you suffer from a serious pysical illness-this is definately some sought of anxiety disorder and you need to find help quickely and your only 15 so you should be living life to the max. you deserve to love life. also if you do have a pyscological problem this is the best age to fix it because you are so young and DONT be ashamed to go to your docter and find a good counsellor who can offer you therapies like cbt (cognitive behaverial therapy) which i think would suit you best. just find a docter or therapist you trust. i cant stress that enough. if at all you feel uncomfortable with someone and talking to them-leave straight away.

good luck babe and i know you probably wont believe me but your just a baby and have a long way to go before your going to die. and take peoples advice and live life to the max-this has nothing to do with death-this is just about enjoying yourself. i hate the saying 'live life like its your last day' thats bullshit. live life because your alive.

Where is the fear?

Is it of not being here any more? Well just over 15 years ago you weren't and you didn't know it. It was not scary.

Is it the pain of some fatal injury or disease? If so then it is only short-term and probably not unbearable and you won't care when you are dead anyway.

It it the sadness of your family and friends? Well that's compassionate of you and praiseworthy but in the great scheme of everything your passing will fade in time.

Is it the fear of what some religious dogma has put in your mind. If so, I'm sorry for you but it's not real, in my opinion.

Anyway, the fear is real and working out what you are really scared of may help. You must know that we will all die and to fear death will blight your life.

If this persists it will be good for you to talk to people about it. Perhaps a counsellor but a trusted friend or relative could also help just by listening.

By the way - I had similar fears at your age and I'm still around at 60 and I'm not scared of dying at all now.

"Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" Romans 10 v 13 (the bible).

Also John 3 v 16 & 17 is good... "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

IF you choose to believe in Him and follow Him, you can be certain that He will protect you and that after death you will have eternal life with Him (which will be far better than our lives here.)

If you want, send me a message and I'll look up some more of the promises God gives us for you.

At the same time as thanking God and filling your mind with His promises, there are other things you can do to help eg having a good amount of exercise during the day, you could have a bath at night, or relax some other way before you go to bed eg read a funny book, or watch a funny film. It might be good to see your doctor - they could prescribe sleeping pills or councelling or other drugs which can help you relax. I've found Olanzapine to be helpful.
