Does it sound like I have something psychologically wrong with me?
I get so nervous in front of certain people that I actually fumble my words and slur my speech. I space out all the time and forget things often. I shake and become clumsy in front of people that scare me. I'm afraid to do things on my own (go to the doctors, go into stores). I don't even have my own bank account because I'm afraid to go into the bank and talk to someone about it. I feel very sad all the time and often mumble 'I hate my life' to myself. I get bad flashbacks and horrible emotional freakouts (especially in front of my fiance) where I bang my head on surfaces, hit my head and scratch at my skin. I get panic attacks when I'm really upset and one time I even tried to choke myself. I avoid a lot of family gatherings or anything social because people just make me paranoid. I hate this, I always feel like a bag of nerves. I'm just too scared to kill myself and I don't want to. Everyday seems like an obstacle for me..what's wrong with me..

Stop thinking about stuff. By thinking about things your mind creates problems that don't really exist and then your made up problems take on a life of their own. The longer you wait to do something the bigger the problem becomes in your mind.

If you would do what you need to do without thinking about it, after a few tries it will get easier. Make sure not to let too much time elapse between doing things, otherwise any progress you make may just get smothered in worry and self-doubt.

The best things to start with are simple things like walking into a store and looking at something for a few minutes. This kind of stuff doesn't involve interaction with other people and you can leave after a few minutes if you start to freak out too much.

Something else that might help would be to start doing something that you like doing or something you're good at so you can build up your self esteem. Playing a musical instrument, drawing, singing, or whatever you are good at.

The bottom line is you need to stop worrying over-thinking things.

JUST DO IT!

Seems like you are worried about what people think, which is understandable to a point, not to the point of ending your life (wouldn't it be better to be laughed at or misunderstood then to kill yourself, COME ON NOW)

Try to figure out why you can have a fiance yet be afraid of people you may never see again.

Think about your fiance and family if someone gives you the "evil eye" and just think "well whatever I'm loved at home" and just do your thing.

Sounds like you have social anxiety pretty bad. I do too! There are several things you can do to make your life better. You don't have to live like this if you don't want to, but you MUST go see a doctor. I know finding the right doctor that you are comfortable with is tough. I would ask a friend or someone you trust to set up the appointment and go with you the first time - to ease the stress. A doctor can prescribe life-changing medication, and therapy with a psychologist wouldn't hurt either. Xanax has always helped me - couldn't live without it! It makes the panic attacks and paranoia go away. But there are a ton of other meds too like Paxil which can help too. Hang in there and get some help.....you deserve to be happy! : )

You need an emotional boost. Hun, believe in yourself because there is something great in you that people love. If not, I doubt you would be having a fiance ;) Your self-esteem is not the highest I know. But you yourself can change that, without any prescriptional medicine. Try to think positive in everything you do! If your not used to thinking positive, then practice it every day. Start out with at least one positive thought or comment, and double it up every day. Jesus loves you girl, and He sure doesn't want you killing yourself and throwing your life away. Even though I have no idea who you are, you have the potential of greatness! Be it through the smile you dont give to often, or the nervousness you have in front of others (believe it or not, some people like it when others get nervous around them; it shows that the other cares enough to BE nervous in the first place) you've impacted lives. Someone told me to smile whenever I feel depressed. And you know what? it works! I look in the mirror and smile at myself, and I look so stupid that I start laughin at myself, and the laughter just makes me feel better! lol! well i Hope this helps!
And try not to hurt yourself. The bangin head and scratching of skin... I might wanna get that checked out.
But let me tell you something... everyone goes through the same emotions at least once in their lifetime.

you kind of sound like me, but way worse.
anyway, everyone has psychological problems. Some just have them badly enough that they interfere with life. That sounds like your case, so you need to talk to a psychiatrist, they can prescribe you with drugs and give you some tactics to deal with life .

...you are experiencing extreme anxiety I will give you the answer you have been waiting for all you life in 5 minutes...check back...

..I had the same problem, I hated social functions, if I had to go to the store like Walmart my heart beat so bad I felt like I would wear myself out. I stayed home as much as I could and communnicating with someone one on one was extremely difficult.

......then I read and was introduced to a product that I had only read about and tried it and within hours my problems and anxiety was reduced 60, then 70 and now between 70-90% after months.

...it sounds too simple, but sometime answers come from the strangest places and you will have to simply try it to see.

Go to your nearest grocery store...buy a box of "Chai Black Tea"...its the type that has Cinnamon and Ginger in it. Then buy a small bottle of lemon juice (not lemonade) a small bottle of 100% lemon juice.

go home and brew it as directed on the package, ( just simply put a styrofoam cup of hot water in the microwave for 2 min 15 sec) .

stick in the tea bag, put an ounce or two of lemon jucie in the cup, let it sit for 5 minutes and drink.

...you are going to be soooooo surprised!!!! You will feel calmer than you ever felt and within weeks to months you will regain your confidence.

TRUST!

....and if this does work you must give thanks to God to Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour who has blessed us with this knowledge.

It does sound like you have a problem... but it's ok. You just have to keep calm and focused. Try to soothe yourself when you're in those situations. You don't necessarily have to rid of the nervousness all at once, but take it a little bit at a time. use maybe a sound soother with head phones. You could start by getting comfortable talking to these people on the phone or e-mailing them. Then you can chat with them while your with someone you're comfortable with is with you. Just take it one step at a time- it can take a long time to heal. Hope I helped.

Seems like you have some sort of phobia to people. I have it as well but not as extreme. You should try some counselling, but I'm sure you can't do that either because of the counsellor. So I'm going to have to suggest to you self-motivation. Just look at yourself in the mirror every morning and say something that'll encourage you. Say for example, "Good morning, Beautiful." Anything short and concise is good. Soon it will stick and you will slowly break out of that shell that you have created.

I know you said it was hard for you to go anywhere by yourself including doctors offices but at this point it's so important that you go see a doctor and tell them about your anxiety issues and your depression. Tell your doctor what you told us. I know it seems unbearably hard right now but if you go seek professional help you will be so much better off.

well, i would say some of it may be codependancy, and i think you should go see someone about it, i know you're afraid to see other ppl alone, so take your fiance with you
it might just be nerves from something that happened lately,
i think it may even be somewhat bipolar, but i am no doctor so i think you should seek help and find out whats wrong

It sounds like you have an anxiety disorder. See a therapist to help work out what behavioral issues you are experiencing. There is some depression. See someone so that they can go over what's really going on and find out ways to resolve your issues. I'm sorry you are going through that, know you aren't alone and there are websites to find support groups or find out at your church. Good luck.

A nervous breakdown is not a clinical term, but can apply to many different situations in which someone begins to exhibit symptoms of different mental illnesses, or heavy emotional stress. Those undergoing high levels of stress, for example after the death of a parent, spouse, or child, or who have been through a messy divorce are more likely to have a “nervous breakdown” if they are predisposed toward certain mental illnesses. As well, even those who do not have a predisposition toward mental illness can have a nervous breakdown if they suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). PTSD can manifest years after a single traumatic event, and may be triggered by a situation that seems similar. With those who have undergone trauma, early counseling can help prevent a nervous breakdown.

Thus symptoms may differ for describing a nervous breakdown, but one can look for the following behaviors as possible symptoms that might precipitate a psychotic episode:

Disinterest in work or family life Disinterest in social life or alienation from previously close friends and family Sleep disruption or much longer periods of sleep Significant changes in appetite, such as eating too little or too much Paranoid thoughts, such as the thought people are trying to harm you Thoughts of grandeur or invincibility Feelings of persistent anxiety or panic attacks Hearing voices Seeing people who are not there Thoughts of dying or wish to die Exhibiting strong or violent anger Having flashbacks to a prior traumatic event Increasing dependence on alcohol or drugs Inability to pursue a normal life, normal activities or normal relationships.

The first step to getting appropriate treatment, for anxiety, depression or any emotional problem, is a complete psychological evaluation to determine whether you have a depressive illness, and if so, what type of depression or emotional problem you're having.

There is help! Consult you doctor a.s.p.

It sounds like there is currently or has been an incident that has made you like this. I am in the same position. I have talked to counsellors and psychologists and know what the problems are for me. It is now a matter to slowly get myself back into society. I do this by taking small steps such as getting in the car and driving a little bit further from home every day. When i get scared I turn around and go back. It is the only way to solve it. There is no magic pill that will instantly cure you. Do it in your own time and own way. I limit who I see and only hang out with people who make me feel comfortable and love me. I have resisted going on drugs as I feel this is only a band aid and can lead to a dependency. However, I did take natural anti-depressants for a time called Sam-e, which were great. I drink calming tea such as Lemon Balm and do as much exercise as I can. I also avoid coffee and junk food and try to eat as healthy as I can. I know people will be telling you to go straight onto drugs, but like I said the only way out is a little at a time in your own time. I also try not to label myself that i have a disorder and think that this is just a passing stage I am going through.

Consider a therapist to help you out with this one. You'll have to tell all of this to a total stranger but you did just put it out there for all of us to read. And a therapist can really help out.
