Yes and no. I remember peoples' faces and names very well. For example, I often greet people by their first name whom I have only met only a few times, a few years ago. On average I meet about 100-200 people every half-a-year.
I forget birthdays often. I dunno why but sometimes it frustrates my family and friends. Looks like I need to work on that. In fact today is my best friend's birthday and I am calling him now.

I would guess that if I can remember things that I read or wrote going back to high school, lol that was prior to 1953, you do the math, that my memory is fairly good. The really non-important thing are usually forgotten quite quickly.

Sometimes, sometimes other things in my life are more paramount and I focus on them instead of the little things. Usually I like to focus on those little things because they are what make the world go 'round. :)

I'm sure you knew the answer to this at one point,
but...
..."IT MUST HAVE NOT BEEN VERY IMPORTANT, OR YOU WOULDN'T HAVE FORGOT IT!!!"...
I could literally KILL people who use that cliche on me!
The next time somebody hands me that smug response I'm going to fake a big sneeze right in their direction and say, "Oh yeah, I remember what it was,... I've got the bird flu."...
Now,...what was the question?

I always used to think I had a good memory - no commonsense, but a good memory - till I started writing a piece on London cab drivers. Don't know if anyone in the States has heard of this, but before you can qualify as an official cab driver in this city, you have to commit something like 20,000 streets to memory, as well as how they relate to each other, and every building in public use on those streets.
Compared to that, I have the memory of a caffeine-riddled grasshopper with ADD. The secret to a successful life is to find someone with a worse memory than you and stick with them...even when they ask you "Who are you again?" every morning...

If my mind was a kitchen utensil, it would be a colander.

My memory is very sharp. Sometimes I do forget the little things and I believe it is because they are little things and sometimes I can be quite stubborn and rebellious so I believe that I CHOOSE to forget those things lOL!

The emu is the largest bird inhabiting Australia (5.7 feet tall, 110-120 pounds in weight). Flightless; wings are only 1/10th the length of its body. Brown in color; after molting, new feathers may appear nearly black, fading to pale brown with age. Bases of feathers are white. Each feather has two shafts, with barbs so widely spaced that they do not interlock to form firm vane as in most birds; they form a loose, hair-like body covering.

There are things I wished I didn't remember. Like talking on the phone with someone I thought was special. Saying the first I love you and meaning it! I wish there was a pill you could take and have selective memory.

I'm getting old. I have this Gatorade bottle that I use to catch spiders that I find around our house. I started a week ago, and the bottle looks disgusting, with spiders and spider carcasses littering the inside. I am borderline arachnaphobic!
This morning I found a spider on the ceiling, and went to get the bottle to catch it. I looked ALL over the house THREE times looking for the bottle. I couldn't remember where I put it. I started worrying that I left it somewhere with the LID OFF!!! Finally, after I was already going to be late for work, my three year old says she knows where it's at. She leads me right to it, and I suddenly remember putting it on the floor next to the recliner last night.

I think I have selective memory. I always remember where I put things, I remember a lot of the past, I'm awesome with new areas, but I forget names, forget places, forget times, I forget movie/ song titles, etc.
I think I forget b/c I keep myself busy, maybe a bit too busy and I can only retain so much information so my mind just purges on its own.

I have a great memory for unimportant things, and a terrible memory for the urgent. If I were a surgeon, and my support staff weren't looking, I would SO sew a surgical tool back in someone's chest cavity. But dammit, I'm great with Simpsons quotes and 80's 1-hit wonders!

I have an excellent memory. No one believes me, but I remember getting my diapers changed when I was only a few months old, and how my mom used to play games with my toes when she did it. I remember learning to walk - the conscious effort it took to place one foot in front of the other and not fall. I can never read the same book or watch the same movie twice - it's too boring - I remember each word before it comes out. I remember the names and faces of every kid I ever went to school with - and there are hundreds of them because I changed schools almost every year. I speak 5 languages because I only need to hear a word once to remember it. To me that is normal - when I hear people who say they CAN'T remember things like that, I wonder how it is possible.
