welcome to the planet.
more people than you know suffer from depression including lawyers, pilots, police officers, teachers, etc.
first off, congradulations. you accepted that you have an issue. the first and hardest step is admitting it.
go see a psychologist. they may refer you to a psychiatrist who can prescribe you some medication to take the edge off. remember medication is not the cure all, it is the band aid which allows you to heal in the long term.
if you live in the united states of america, you probably face crappy health insurance, if you have insurance at all. if you have no health insurance at all, find your local "Mental Health / Mental Retardation" offices. (Don't let the name fool you!); or visit www.nimh.gov
most important, hang in there. i am sure you have people that care about you. it will get better.

Tell your doctor just what you wrote: you've been feeling depressed for quite a while now, and you'd like some help so you can feel like yourself again.
If you can, describe the specific symptoms you are having, because this will help the doctor decide on the type of treatment that would help you best.
Lots of people suffer from depression, and I'm sure your doctor will help you find a treatment plan that works well for you. Good luck, and God Bless.

is there any particular reason why do you feel you are depressed? and it's good that you're going to consult your doctor before the depression get worst. List all those things that make you feel depressed and your doctor might able to tell if its minor or major depression one.
I have a similar situation like you. I had depression about a year in half ago. What I did was, I made an appt with a health professionals (a psychologist/counselor/and nurse) in school. I'm not a trouble maker or anything. I just consulted them because I can't find the right answer why I experiencing this kind of condition. I told them what causes of my depression and so on. Then they recommended me do the ff in order to fight a depression. I believe is it also better if you talk to someone who is close to you such as your friend and family member so, they know what you are going through. It's kinda hard to open up, but they'd able to help you out. It may takes a while to do this process, but I'm hoping that able to overcome this disorder.

Depression often begins with not being honest with yourself or the situation you are confronting. Be honest with yourself and call it as it is.....the only person you are fooling is yourself.

Depression is serious. Tell your doc that you feel it's damging your health and you want some advice on what to do. If it continues after his advice ask if you need to take anything for it. Be careful of taking what he gives you though. Ask him what it does and how. If he's giving you something that might clash with anything your taking already tell him. My friend recently started taking two drugs for his depression that clash. One makes him hyper and the other makes him calm. It creates a homicidal/sucidal effect on some people and on others it creates poor judgment. He left his wife and kids recently because of the stuff.

Make a list of things that are bothering you. The Gp will be used to hearing stuff like this so don't worry at all. Take tissues as you may need a bit of a cry once you start getting things off your chest. Don't be ashamed or worried you are not alone.

You have to say what you have to say even if it's hard. Try recollecting your thoughts before seeing him so it's like preparing what to say. That'll make you less nervous and well, at least you have something to say.
I have the same problem. But instead, mine's a psychiatrist. Sometimes, i just don't wanna say what's on my mind cuz it can be really personal and exbarrassing. Either that, or i just don't know how to describe what i'm thinking. But just bare in mind that you have to say it out in order but your doctor to help you. You'll feel better after that too. Besides, if he's professional, he wouldn't tell his patient's particulars to others so it's perfectly fine to pour your heart out.

Hi!
Think about what you need and what a physician has to offer.
Depression is seen in medicine as being a chronic illness. And what you will get will be psychopharmaca(mood changing drugs)This is not a true solution.Find out what is the reason .Get in touch with yourself,do things that you used to like ,remember your dreams ,all the big and small achievement of your life, write a journal(diary)listen good music ,do yoga ,dance ,go in the nature, enjoy small things, open your heart it will heal you.
Love!

You will have to tell him what you've been feeling. ie, sad, emotional, moody, insomnia.
He will ask u what ur symtoms are. If you don't wanna come right out and say that u are depressed, then start off by tellilng him what u feel, and that u don't know what it may be. Good luck

Don't let someone you don't know upset you by there responses. They are not qualified mental health professionals and may have their own agenda when they reply.
Do know that it is hard to tell a doctor or anyone about depression and other emotional issues. But your doctor should understand and help you by either giving you the name of a qualified counselor/doctor or by trying you on one of the many excellent mood elevation medications.
When you go to the doctor, write down what you are feeling, i.e., when you are depressed, how long, what you tried. The latest is to take an advocate (friend) with you if you cannot say what you want to tell the doctor. And, if needed, you can hand the doctor the paper.
If you don't want to go to your family doctor, call the State operator and ask to be connected to the mental health center in your area. Or call a local hospital and ask to be connect to the crisis center. Most mental health facilities that are state or county run are on an ability-to-pay basis, but many insurance policies cover some counseling sessions.
Know you are not being silly. You are being a human being who has a problem and does not know how to resolve it. Know there is hope.
Good luck

Tell the doctor what you just wrote here. He/she will ask you questions, very basic questions. You may be prescribed an anti-depressant and or be sent to a councilor. Realize you are not alone. Some time in every ones life they feel the same way.

Explain to the doctor how you feel, he/she will ask you some question and based on this, give you a diagnosis. Please try not to take any anti-depressants if possible though, as most are addictive. Maybe you could try to take some exercise and/or change your eating habit, I'm not making light of it but maybe changing a few little things in your life might make a huge different. Good luck! Hope you feel better soon.

You just need to be really open and explain why you think you are depressed. Explain what's getting you down, what you think is causing it, and how it's affecting your life. They will then be able to give you accurate treatment.
Good luck, and hope you feel better soon.

Depression is one of the commonest reasons for consulting a GP. You are not alone, just say what you feel and your GP will take it from there.

Hi - I felt a lot like you did, though I understand depression is different for each person.
I did a psychology degree, so felt that I should understand depression and didn't want to 'bother' my doctor with it. After feeling depressed for a long time, I eventually bit the bullet and went to see my GP.
I can honestly say it's the best thing I ever did. My doctor told me that he had suspected I was depressed for a long time, but couldn't really help until I was willing to come to the surgery and ask for help.
I was prescribed Citalopram which I took for about 8-10 weeks. I had some difficulty sleeping while taking it, but I felt more motivated and felt like I'd had a huge weight lifted off my shoulders just by talking to my GP.
I would strongly advise you to see your doctor - your GP will take you seriously and won't think you're wasting their time, I promise. Tell your GP that you feel depressed, and discuss why you feel like that. Your doctor will then be in a position to help you. Remember: depression is a medical condition that can be treated.
I hope things get better for you, and think you're doing the smart thing by considering going to see your doctor.
If you're still not sure and want to talk more before you go to the docs then let me know and I'd be happy to talk you further if it helps?
Aaron
