Has anyone been through this before? Any adivce? What did you do?

Should I leave and get a crappy job until I find out what it is I want to do?

I think you need to see a doctor. You may have mental stress. Do you have thoughts of suicide?

You definately shouldn't be working in an evironment that you do not enjoy.
So to start, ask yourself, what do you enjoy? What in your life makes you happy? Do you like to travel? Or maybe you enjoy working with children? Whatever it is, the answer to that question should provide you a small idea of what you want to look for in a job.
In a workplace, wherever you work, you should be happy and you should enjoy what you're doing.
Like stated in the previous post, start applying for jobs that fit with your interests, as well as with your personal attributes. For example, if a particular job fits your interests but requires long hours, thus, alot of energy, and you may not be able to deliver the amount of energy they seem to be asking for, then try to keep searching.
It may be smart to keep with your current job until you know you have another alternative.
When you finally have that job youve always wanted, all your hard work will be worth it. Keep in there!

are you avoiding someone or something if you leave. if so, you'll still have the same problems. they will just be farther away. college changed my life. graduating gave so many good choices as for work. sometimes it still sucks, but that generally applies to most jobs. do you drink or do drugs? my life would be so much better if i didn't drink. i used to do drugs, too. but now, it's just some drinking. but, leaving and getting a crappy job just might be the thing to do. i hope you have good friends. by the way, we've all been through this before.
good luck.

I believe that when we come to a point where we can bear something no longer---we have a choice---we can remain in our pain or we can grow through deciding to make some changes.

There are adult education programs across the country, and if
you can contact a place like that and ask to speak to a counselor, they can help you to decide what you'd do best at,
where your interests lie, and if there is any kind of grant money available to help pay for education if you require it.

When I was 30 years old, and raising three children with a
husband who was rarely home---I wanted something to change, and knew the only one I could make change was myself---so I looked into the new nursing program at our
local college. Oh, there were challenges along the way.
I did get scholarships that helped to pay for my education,
but I also had to do work study to help pay.........
However, in four years I graduated with honors, took my
boards and became an RN.
And believe me, if I could do that, then you can find your
path in life, too, to do something that makes you feel good
about yourself and what you are doing in life!
We aren't all meant to be nurses, of course....there are so
many things in life to choose from.....and I really hope you
will do all you can to find your niche!
Just find someone to help you find your path.....and go for it,
a little at a time if necessary.....but you will know you are on
your way!
Wishing you all the best,
Doris

I hated my school.
I hated the people, the teachers, the rumors.
I was tired of being the outcast, the dork, the one who had no self-esteem.

I changed from that right-wing school to a liberal arts magnet school, and those were the happiest days of my life.

What I'm saying is that any drastic change past this is going to be better. for me, it was a new school. You need time for yourself (a week or two) and something you're willing to put serious time and effort into. Try occupational therapy, if you can find it. if not, ask yourself what it is you enjoy doing most.

Do not quit your job. The best time to look for a job is when you are employed. Also, it doesn't look good on a resume` when you quit, nor will you you get a positive reference from that former employer. Search for questionaires aimed at finding your happiness at work. You can find books on the subject at your local library or search the web. Looking for a career/job is work. Think of it as a second job and throw your whole soul into the search. Good luck!

We all have our bad jobs and horirble coworkers. Just remember that I can be worse in other companies. However, if you want a career field change that is very common. I urge you to take a career test and network with others and ask them about their job, good/bad points and advice.

at the moment i am thinking that you are lucky! i have been out of work for almost 3 months now, and its driving me nuts!i have no money to call my own, and i am living in a new area, so i dontknow a soul, and my husband works nights, so i am basically on my own all day and night, therefore i am thinking that at least you DO have a job, even though you may hate it at the moment. i do know however, how it feels to be doing a job that you hate, and it makes it a bit worse when you dont get on with other people that you work with. no job is worth getting yourself all upset about, but try and hang on in there until something else comes up. even if its not what you want excatly, it still may be better than where you are now. you could also think about going to college in the evenings and doing something there, and once you have done that, and if you enjoy it, you could also look for a job in what ever course you have done. in the meantime, try and keep your mind occupied with something else( e.g college) and then if you have a goal to aim for, it willgive you some ideas for the future, and take your mind off your present job for a while. hope this helps. good luck.

I've been exactly were you are. Get some exercise, it'll perk you up. then dust off your resume and start looking for another job RIGHT NOW! I had a job once that I knew I wouldn't be able to stand on the second day there. I spent all my free time for the next six months looking for another one, and it turned out to be the job of my dreams. But if you just sit on your behind, nothing will ever change. Turn off the TV and get moving!

i've been in the same situation before..a lot. My advice to you...stay in this job for now and apply to loads of other jobs. I have quit so many jobs because i hated them so bad...without finding another job..and it took me months to get another...and you don;t want to add financial stress to your situation. And this year has been TERRIBLE for jobs..trust me i know all too well of this because i have been unemployed for most of the year.

Good luck. I feel your pain.

Read the book "Who moved my cheese?" It is a short book, and a very fast read. But well worth it if you are feeling the way you do.

And do find a new job. I was through that - just putting in the motions. If it hadn't been for a friend that I had at work to help pass the time, I would have flipped. She kept me sane. If you can find a good friend at work, that could help keep you sane, too, while you look for something better to do.

Just don't do let it get to the point that you can't even contemplate leaving any more... then you will have lost.

Make a list of all the things you enjoy and make a plan to find work in that area. If you are having trouble, look at a picture of yourself as a little girl, and try to imagine telling that little girl what you do now. What is something that would make her excited and proud of her future? Your plan might include going back to school or moving, but that's better than crying in the toilet every day. I've been there, and I'm MUCH happier now, but it didn't change over night. Take control of your destiny, it will empower you!

Yes, leave. I've been through that, and "couldn't" leave because the money was good...but really, when you look at spending endless, miserable days no amount of money can make you feel better.

Get another job. Set your mind to it being a transitional phase, and use your spare time and positive energy to find out what is that you really want to do. Trust me, living a little more frugally is not a steep price to pay for a little more peace of mind.

this is easy you take the time to decide what you want to do with the rest of your life then you star the ball rolling. i can tell you now that there isn't a bunch of jobs out there right now so be very careful of quitting a job you already have. u can take nite classes or something but don't quit till you know you can make it happen someplace else.

Sweetie, if you are not happy with your job, & it sounds like it must be really bad, I'd definitely leave. It's just not worth staying if it's having such a detrimental effect on you. You have a right to be happy & comfortable in your workplace. Have a talk with some of your friends & family & they can help support you through this. It's important that you take care of yourself & don't accept second best ever. Good luck :)

I don't think that you should have to feel worthless in any job situation. If you really feel that horrible working where you do now, then I think you should just take a job somewhere else, even if it might not be your favorite, for the time being. It won't matter cause you'll have plenty of time and be lessed stress and able to figure out what you really want to do. good luck =]]

Nothing is ever worth sacrificing your mental health. If you need to leave leave. You will regret it if you do not. Some people say stick to things and they will work out, but most times they do not. You are living in a country where you are free to do whatever take advantage. Good luck and remember anger can eat away at everything good in you until you have nothing. Do not let that happen.

Ah yes, I had the same problem you did. I couldn't stand my job, I couldn't stand my boss and most of the people there, and I was so stressed out that it was just really really badly.

If you're that stressed out then yes, it is time to think of other options. I don't know what situation you are in other then that, but if you're able to then find a job that you can use to support yourself, whether it's 'crappy' in your sense of the word or not. Otherwise you're just going to get more and more unhappy.

Fortunately for me, my job is seasonal. This summer I'm opening up my own little hot dog stand instead of going back. I'll be spending all summer on the beach, if the town allows me to, so the only thing I'm worrying about is how to cook hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, and chicken fingers. :) Good luck!

Hi!

First of all, I'm sorry about your job. That stinks. If you are really that sick of it....

find a job that can make you happy and keep your money up to date for a while. While doing this job, you can find another job. My mom was in the situation, so I would know.

Hope this helps, good luck and happy holidays!

No. You look for jobs that you know you'll be happy doing, and start applying for them asap, but hold on and be tough to get through this job until you get one that you do like. You should never have a job doing something you don't like. Just adds more stress onto everything else.

Really, if I was in your situation, I would look for another job. But don't quit right away. Search for one while doing the current job you are doing, and once you find one, give your boss at least a two week notice. Find a Job Agency and give them your interests and qualifications. They can help you.

Though I don't have alot of experience in this, this is what I would do. I wish you the best of luck.

Oh my gosh! Have I ever been through this!!! More times than I should be able to count! The way I have dealt with it is to come up with coping strategies that will help me deal with the situtation. Sometimes those strategies have included going for a long walk during work hours or going to work out on my lunch hour or simply coming up with a plan as to how I will eventually break out! What you are going through is very, very common. Sometimes when I was going through what you are going through friends would tell me why don't you just quit. But, they don't understand what it does to your resume and the truth is, at least in my experience there are not a lot of TRULY AWESOME employers out there...sad but true and if you don't play along to get along you end up with the short end of the stick. Yes, you can always quit but even that has its repurcussions.
