I was taught it is a fracture. A fractured bone has splinters that might not necessarily knit back together properly. Where as a break is clean and pieces mesh back.

A break is worse. Fractures are small cracks, sometimes almost undetectable.

Break for sure is worse.
I broke my left collarbone and that one was unbearable.
But I fractured my right collarbone some years later and I didn't even think it was broken at first.

break takes longer to heal as a fracture does not. It does not need surgery like in some cases of a break.

well it depends...
i think that a fracture is just a break in your bone that doesn't go all the way through. but it could also mean your bone is crushed into many pieces which is very painful
a break would just be like if you had a clean cut, which isn't so bad

They are the same thing.
If you question was 'which is worse, a break or a compound fracture?', I'd answer 'compound fracture; . . . that's when the broken bone protrudes through the skin.

It probably depends on what bone it is. But more times than not, a fracture heals quicker but both have draw backs. See webmd.com for more information.

If you are talking about bones, it's the same thing. It all depends on how severe your fracture is:
According to medline, There are several types of bone fracture, including:
* Oblique - a fracture which goes at an angle to the axis
* Comminuted - a fracture of many relatively small fragments
* Spiral - a fracture which runs around the axis of the bone
* Compound - a fracture (also called open) which breaks the skin

neither is worse - a fracture is just a kind of break. i dont know why other people are saying that a "break is worse." if your bone is merely cracked, which is what some are calling a "fracture," then your bone is not fully functional and therefore it is broken. If your mp3 player still plays music, but the screen is cracked and you can no longer read the text, then it is BROKEN. its not completely broken but its still BROKEN.

While a fracture is concidered a break , it is not a clean break and often go untreated . A break is usually worse because with a braek the bone is in two peices . If they dont connect they cant move each other.Fractures can sometimes still be moblie.Especialy a hairline fracture which is merley a little crack in the bone.

Two different words that describe the exact same things.
A break in the bone is also referred to as a fracture.
Doctors often use the two words inter-changably and it confuses people.
Fractured is the Medical Term
while Break is the Laymans Term

"Break" is not not medical terminology. The least serious type of fracture is a non-displaced fracture, which means that the broken ends of the bones have not moved.
A simple or closed fracture is where the broken ends have moved but do not protrude through the skin.
The most serious type of fracture is a compound or open fracture where the bone ends protrude through the skin. This presents a risk of infection, particularly if it is the result of a nasty accident and the wound is seriously contaminated. And then this type of fracture could be even worse if there are multiple jagged pieces.
