It sounds like your Mom's hurt her hand quite badly. You need a medic to give you details of what's happened, but if she hasn't broken a bone in her hand it's possible she's bruised it, or perhaps dislocated something.
I'd try and get her to a doctors. If it's hurting that badly, she'll need it looked at sooner rather than later.

I really would take your Mum to your local A&E dept. You are obviously worried and all head injuries where dizziness and nausea are involved should be checked out. Better safe than sorry.

It seems like when she banged her hand, she might have hit a nerve and it swelled up. Massage her hand soflty and alternate ice and hot compress to her hand. If it still hurts tomorrow, bring her to the doctor to mke sure she hasn't fractured anything.

yes contact the doctor . they will put you onto a medical help line and you give them the symptoms. put the hand in a makeshift sling and wrap it in cold bandages or a teacloth.. keep it raised . or go to the local accident and emergency dept of your nearest hospital. it may be broken. but maybe just bruised. it may need an x.ray.

tell mum to go to the doctor in the morning. she will be fine. at worst she might have bruised the bone or broken it. nothing serious. give her some Paracetamol and get her to keep it raised to stop the swelling.

if its swollen it is possible that she has broken a bone, Equally pain in picking things up indicates damage to tendons of the hand.
A doctor would be best mate, im only a med student, and i doubt others on yahoo answers are doctors who prbly know best. Besides they can x-ray it and confirm/dismiss a broken hand.
Hope she feels better!

I would imagine its probably a fracture.
In any case, get yourself off to the doctors or hospital. Sounds nasty and if its caught a blood vessel it will either cut off circulation to the hand and it will die or it will bleed into the surrounding muscle.
Hospital, now.

Call NHS direct (0845 4647) or visit your local A&E. It might just be bad bruising, it might be a break, it might even be a break that's inhibiting blood flow and could be serious.
Don't mess about here - ask the professionals!

Get her to raise it above her heart, put ice on it, possibly holding it on with a compression bandage such as tubi grip. Also get her to rest it. RICE. Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate.
It is probably bruised, if it is still extremely painful in the morning she should go to her nearest minor injuries unit or her GP where they can rule out any breaks, or advise her to go to hospital. I would suggest a minor injuries unit as they are very efficient and can often do an x-ray if needs me.
She could also put some Witch Hazel gel on it as this will bring out the bruising.

she needs to go to the doctor - even a walk-in clinic (doc-in-the-box).
it's probably nothing, but there could be something more serious.

She's probably broken a blood vessel which will cause a huge bruise. I did the same thing on my foot about a year ago and a lump the size of an egg came up, it took about six weeks for the bruise to disappear.

She has probably broken blood vessels inside her hand -- it's like a really bad bruise. It is probably going to turn black and blue by tomorrowm and will be sore for a couple weeks. She needs to ICE it for ten minutes at a time, several times tonight.
