There's just been a report about more people dying of wasp stings now because of increasing allergy to the horrible things. They are the only creature on God's earth I deliberately kill. I'm glad you've never been stung. Based on holidays in hot countries, I've found it best to stay still if they land on you, but unlike bees they sting indiscriminately, but don't aggravate them. I've only been stung once, but my hand ballooned up.

I don't think it makes a difference. My daughter and a friend upset a nest at a campground. They came running out of the brush screaming and it was my other daughter who was standing in the middle of the campsite, not moving, that got stung. I have had bees and wasps land on me and as long as i stay still, they appear to be looking for a sugar source or something, when they realize there is nothing there, they just fly away. A bee will only sting when they feel threatened, now I haven't double checked this but I'm pretty sure that when a bee stings, he dies soon after, so they won't do it unless provoked. Not sure about wasps though. At best, I would remain calm and just slowly walk away.

You better learn to stand still and not swat at them. When you run, the wasp will emit a hormone that "calls" all the other wasps to come flying with him. Just relax and move away gently.

i was stung twice during my child hood, i stood on one and another stung me on my newly developing breast, needless to say i stay and fight if they challenge me( by hanging around) and bam i kill them quick and painless afterall they are not expecting it. my 3 yr olf asked why i hit him with a newspaper the other day.

I try and stay, but start jabbering like a monkey if they don't go away.
Delayed reaction, I guess.
Got stung by one on the very end of my toe once. I was wearing flip-flops and was carrying redhot barbeque coals in a tray for disposal. Critter was in the grass.
I learned extreme self control that time...... How, I don't know!
It hurt so badly too. Cried for half an hour. Boo hoo.

the only way they will sting you is if you are messing with their home. A bee will die if it stings you and it knows this, and it will give up it's life if needed. if they get in my face they get swatted.

it all depends on where you are in relation to the bees. I stepped on a ground bees nest by accident and ran, my friend I was walking with froze and stood still. I got stung about 3 or 4 times he didn't at all.

Stay still is what I do but keep the eyes moving and watch it closely. Also to run or stay depends on the wasp + how much of a stalker it is. Too much flap can get them into ambush mode I believe. I SO hate wasps since a misguided attempt to save one as a naive toddler in the bath. My kindness was rewarded by an excruciatingly painful sting. Nasty biz.
