well about a week ago i got my half way cartilage pierced on my left and my cartilage on the right. i got it pierced with a gun, which i just found out today was not such a good idea. but my cartilage is fine, and it doesn't hurt, it moves good and not painful. but my half way cartilage on the left is swollen and is very sensitive, if i accidently bursh it with my hand it hurts like crazy. theres also a lump on the back, a small one but its there. and my ear on the front is kinda purple. i asked my mom what to do, and she told me to take it out clean it really good with the stuff and put a different earring back in. and i did. but it's still painful and hard to sleep on. i realllly want to keep my piercing, expecally since my mom said that if it closes she's not gonna get it re-done for me, and i know for a FACT she will NOT take me to the doctors.

any help. i'll definitely clean it more, since i've only been cleaning it once a day. but anything else out there?
Additional Details
also, it's swollen to the point where i can't put the back of an earring on. so i have to use a piece of earser ): and i know for a fact that i don't want it to close, cause i can't get it re-done, and my mom wouldn't take me to the doctors if it fell off! she said i shouldn't have done it so she wants me to deal with the pain, even though she does care about me, ....somehow.

The gun was fine.. Don't change the earring this soon and don't move the ring around to much or you could develop a keloid..keep it clean

It doesn't sound like it's going to be a problem. I have a cartilage piercing and I too got it with a gun and I have no problems with it at all. The bump on the back of your ear is natural and that's what happens when you get a piercing in your cartilage. Rub ice on it to cool it down and stop the swelling and redness and you could also put anti-biotic ointment on it while the earring is in the hole.

I'm gonna give you my background information first: My best friend Breanna pierced my cartilage for me (I know stupid) it hurt like hell and she had to keep re doing twice with a needle once with an earring.

My caartilage having problems (Like yours) and i kept freaking out because my mom didn't know and would kill me if she found out.

what i did was i took my earring out and replaced it with a CLEAN new earring that was real silver. It hurt like hell but saved my piercing you also have to clean it as much as possible every time your near a mirror clean it!.

also twist your piercing

If you remain with the same problems and nothing gets better take that sucker out! i know it sucks but it wont hurt anymore right?

Hope this helps!!
good luck :)

the lump is in fact a "keloid scar". it will always be raised. your skin stretched to make room for the ring. you would need plastic surgery to fix this bump which will only get bigger with time (leaving the piercing in). could be due to the gun but idk for sure. you should follow the instruction given by the piercist.. if you didnt get any you need to call ASAP. this is your body, you only get one... if you wanna decorate it, take good care of it.

the irritation is from your body rejecting it. keep it in and keep cleaning it if you want your body to accpet it. do some research on allergies to the type of metal used. stainless steel is usually the best bet... dont change the rting unles ABSOLUTELY necessary. i recommend Bactine as a Gentle cleanser. no alcohol, ever , it will dry it out ant make it hurt. twist it once per day in the shower, and gently clean it with Antibacterial soap in the shower (not scented stuff).

you may need to go to the doctors be you may be infected. if it foams up with the use of peroxide, go get an antibiotic.

I think you should take it out. I'm sure you like it, obviously since you got it done, but there are some really scary stories and risks regarding cartlige piercings. Like deformity and ear collapse. :( Give it a few more days and if it gets unbearbly worse, take it out. No piercings is worth your ear collapsing! But good luck ok :)

****Holy ****. google: keloid and click on images...wow you do not wanna have that on your ear

well if u have fake ea-ring then that could be it because i cant ware fake ea-rings so u could probably try to put in a 10k or 14k gold ea-ring on it and keep cleaning it and if that doesn't work then it might be infected and you should go check it out but ts Ur choice

yeah the gun was a bad idea
=/

but, keep cleaning it like usual
keep your hair up and away from it as much as possible
make sure that if you sweat, keep some wet-nap wipes around (or just wash it kind of often)
then go to the store, and look for SEA SALT- not regular table salt
you want non iodized sea salt

mix a table spoon or two of that into a glass of warm water and dissolve all of the salt by stirring

then dip a cotton ball in the stuff

and soak it on your ear whenever you get the chance, every day or every other day

it sounds like it will hurt, but it wont- i use it on my nose and ears all the time lol

if it doesnt get better in about three weeks- just take the earring out, and wait for it to heal all the way, next time dont use a gun =/

make sure to keep twisting the earring, too, every time you clean or soak it, make sure you're twisting the earring

good luck

pick me for best answer if nobody else gives you anything better
