don't worry about the blue color, it's just a bruise under the nail, but you should probably do something about the bleeding. this would be key

well u got two options here u can go to hospital or do it ur self, because the nail is going to hold the pressure of the sweling and u are going to need to drill a hold through the nail to reless it. if u want to do it ur self then find the smallest drill bit that u can and a neddle. stairelis it then make some scaches on the top of the nail so the bit dosent walk then just twis the bit back and forth untill blood comes out

you dont need to go to an emergency romm for that put some ice on if its swelling if you think its broke stay off it and keep it elevated and it would also be a good idea to wrap it

soak in cold water with ice in it, if you can stand it. it is a hematoma and what is needed to keep your nail from popping off is to get a metal non coated paper clip unfold it and heat the end and put the heated end on the center of the color and let it melt through the nail to release the pressure and bandage it or have someone you trust to do it a tore off nail hurts much worse

Put ice on it to reduce bloodflow and swelling.
You've bruised the nailbed, and it's gonna come off in about 4-6 weeks.
Keep managing the pain and elevate the foot to further reduce bloodflow.
All else I can say is avoid putting TOO MUCH weight or pressure on the toe/foot till it's fully healed up.

Get the ice, dude. keep it from swelling, stem the blood. The nail turning blue is NOT A GOOD SIGN, so contact a doctor if it gets ANY WORSE- it could get infected. if you have some peroxide and water, clean it up and examine the wound. i repeat- do not let it get infected.

The reason for the pain and the nail turning blue is there is bleeding under the nail the best way to stop the pain is to take a pin that you clean with alcohol and push it through the nail at the spot where there is the mist discoloration. Once you go all the way through the nail the blood will have a way to escape from under the nail and the pain will get better almost instantly

ice would be good although at first it will hurt alot more, but tolerate it and it will ease. Your nail turning blue is blood, some people call it a blood blister. If it stays blue for a few day then you will need to go to a doctor to get them to release the blood. Once that happens the nail may drop of.

You need to vent the pressure from under the toe nail. After you have done this, the awful throbbing pain will subside.
Your toe nail has no nerves in it. The nail bed under the nail is the source of pain. If you heat a pointed object such as a paper clip to red hot ( hold it with a glove or tool) and melt your way through the nail, this will puncture the nail and vent the pressure. Some blood will flow from this hole. This is ok.
If you are confident you can do this without screwing up, this has worked for me, Use a cordless drill motor with the smallest drill bit that can fit in the chuck (1/16 inch or so) . Heat the drill bit with a match or other safe fire source. Carefully at low speed and low pressure drill through the nail. DO NOT apply a lot of force and go into your nail bed. Go just barely through the nail to vent the pressure. Once the nail is vented, the pain will subside.
If you are clumsy, forget about this DIY medical project and go to a Dr. and have it done at the clinic/office.

Rest, Ice and Elevate, the Advil will help too. :) If your nail turns blue/black, it will probably fall off, don't pick at it, it WILL grow back :)

put ice on it but not for than 15 minutes at a time, also the blue is just a bruise ounder your toenail. If the bleeding doesn't stop go to the emergency room and have them take a look.

No, ice won't help and will only make it hurt worse. Keep your shoe off, no socks either on that foot. You're likely going to loose the nail (it'll grow back).
Stick with the pain killer and if you want you can put gauze around the toe to protect it after the nail comes off. Or tent a large bandage over it, to keep it from rubbing on the shoe.
Even if you broke the toe, they don't put splints on it, you just have to be careful how you walk and try not to pressure the area with tight shoes or such.
Good luck. I've broken 2 toes and lost about 3 nails. It's painful but not fatal.

Take a needle, get it hot and burn a hole in the nail, this will relieve the pressure, which is the cause of your pain!

Stubbed Toe - Painful - What Do I Do?
May 26, 2001
Question:
Stubbed my little toe pretty bad today (5/25/01), its' black & blue, hurts wearing shoes of anykind. I've heard that there is nothing one can do, outside of applying ice to minimize swelling. Is this true and why?
Doctor's Reply:
One other thing to do is drain any bleeding under the toenail. This is best done by your podiatrist and may require numbing the toe.

Ouch, don,t put ice on it, as the pressure will build up under the nail. You need to put a hole through the nail to relieve the pressure. get someone to take you to the hospital. I had to have my thumb done like that, trust me it feels better after.
Good luck with it

if the nail is turning blue , its a little late to ice it. heat would probably be best for it now, also the nail will probably come off in a few days but don't worry it will grow back
