I have had this myself when i was 15. However it was the very serious version.. menegecaucal meningitis. It is VERY VERY serious. Everyone that has come in contact with her should also visit the hospital. When i had it, half the town had to visit the hospital and be put on medicine, because it is a very easy thing to catch from someone who has it. Depending on the type she has, yes, it is possible that she could die. I was literally 30 minutes away from dying if i had not gone in to the hospital. You should do a search on the net to get more information about this.

Viral meningitis is usually not serious, and symptoms usually disappear within 2 weeks on their own with no residual complications. Bacterial menengitis is very serious and even with treatment serious brain damage and death can occur; the more advanced the illness before the onset of treatment the more likely these undesirable outcomes become.
Since your neighbor is hospitalized it is likely that she has an advanced form of bacterial menengitis; which form, however, is impossible to know. It may be she is being treated for symptoms secondary to an advanced form of viral meningitis but this is unlikely.
Some forms of bacterial meningitis are contagious. If your neighbor does have a contagious form of bacterial meningitis the doctors at the hospital she is in will already have determined who needs to be tested and will have started any neccessary testing and treatment so it is highly likely that her children will be just fine.
I sincerely hope that your neighbor makes a full and speedy recovery...

yes, she can
If she does make it through this, there is a very good chance that she could lose several limbs or be disfigured.
It is very important for those who have been around her to get tested and/or vaccinated!!!

I had viral meningitis last summer. If it is bacterial, her life is absolutely in danger. If it is viral, she can likely make a full recovery but it will take several months of treatment. There is also a possibility of long-term effects; for me it has been headaches. I wouldn't worry too much about her sons unless they drank or ate after her. Meningitis is much harder to transmit than other diseases.

Do you mean "meningitis?" Some forms can be quite deadly, especially if untreated, but once treatment starts the prognosis is generally pretty good. Viral meningitis is usually more a pain than a real danger, unless it's something really uncommon like herpes encephalitis/meningitis. If it's meningococcal, then the family will be at some risk, but prophylactic antibiotics should handle that. You should know something about how much to worry in a few hours.

It really depends on whether the meningitis (note spelling) is viral or bacterial. If viral, no, she most likely won't die. There's no specific treatment, care is suppportive until recovery. If it's bacterial, survival depends on how quickly it was initially treated, and that depends on how quckly she sought medical care. The longer the delay, the lower the odds of survival. Still, with aggressive treatment and good health prior to the infection, she can make it. Her children will have to be tested.

Meningitis may develop due to a variety of causes, including infective agents, physical injury, cancer, or certain drugs. Meningitis is a serious condition owing to the proximity of the location to the brain and spinal cord. The potential for serious damage to motor control, thought processes, or even death warrants prompt medical attention.

I will pray. You pray too.
The word is meningitis and if it reaches a severe stage, you can die but usually it is treated. Don't pay all that attention to the commercials on television. They are just trying to alert people who ignore severe respiratory problems and earaches, etc. My daughter had a friend, age 11, that died from meningitis but her mother did not take her to doctor in time. The disease had already progressed too far for a cure.
Meningitis is serious and the kids are okay as long as they are cared for and tested.
