I have had mono twice (two years apart) i was not very sick either time but both times was diagnosed accuratley with blood test. It probably only lasted a day or two both times. But I hear you cant get it twice!! Whats Wrong with me?!?!?!?!
Actually any time if you have had a positive blood test for mono it will always be positive. Mono never really "leaves" your body...you can have flare ups if you stop eating properly or not resting enough. I had chronic mono when I was only 10 and have had several "flare ups" since. Sometimes I will be down for weeks with little strength..other times it barely effects me.
Just make sure you are getting plenty of rest at night and eating a well balanced meals. That should help to keep it very limited. Your doctor should have known though that the blood test would have came back positive...maybe you should seek another doctor for future problems.
You will always have mono forever. Mono lies dormant in your system forever. Under stress or sickness can bring it to a head. Mono is part of the epstein barr virus which a part of the Herpes family. Just remember you are contagious when you are having a flare up. Stay away from others even though it is spread by saliva. So if you cough yu could spread it. It infects the epithelial tissues in the oropharynx, nasopharynx, and salivary glands before it infects the lymphoid tissues (lymphnoids)
Actually, once you get mono, it never really goes away. It just stays dormant in your system. If your immune system cannot control it, you can have a recurrence.
