Nigel Foong	If your immunity strength in your body is strong enough or you have get a shot of vaccine to prevent chicken pox, you have the small chance to have it or not at all. Mostly, chicken pox is quite infectious. I have it but I don't have fever. After I over it, my sister caught it from infections. She had a high fever and she said the pain is terrible... Getting it twice is very little because most of us has the immune to prevent chicken pox already. So, don't worry so much (",)!

Anon	Yes, if your immune system is low. My sister in law had glandular fever as a child and since has caught every single bug going. She's had chicken pox no less than six times.

I ♥ Rufus	yes, I had them, missed 2 weeks of school, got them again a month later missed 2 more weeks of school, then developed an immunity, it is quite rare though If your worried, you can get a blood test done, if you don't carry an immunity, you can get the vaccine

nooka	I know someone who had it 3, yes 3 times. Each time the Chicken Pox got worse. The younger the person is, the less they tend to suffer. Chicken Pox can be really nasty if you get it when you are an adult. My daughter had it when she was 2 and we had no problems apart from the itchiness, whereas my brother had it when he was a teenager and it was horrendous. He was delirious and literally had spots everywhere. You can only get Shingles if you have already had Chicken Pox, it is the same virus but it comes from when the Chicken Pox virus lays dormant in your system after having had it and then re-emerges maybe years later as Shingles. I has shingles when I was eight months pregnant and had no problems with it but again, it can be very nasty. I think it affects the nerves in some way and in older people they can suffer for a very long time.

SIMON N	It's not impossible but ususally if you get a recurrance it come back as shingles (which is horrible- trust me)

serenity	yes - my daughter got her second bout this year and then infected our two week old baby (fun and games). she had a mild strain of the pox when she was about 4. This time round she was covered all over...

thunderchild67	If your like me and have no immunity to chickenpox even after the childhood vaccinations yes you can but its a heck of a lot better than getting shingles

e-rain	It's very rare to get actual chicken pox twice because your body makes the antibodies for it the first time around. However, once you have contracted chicken pox, you have a chance of developing shingles later on in life. I developed shingles when i was stressed out at school and not sleeping enough. It was a very painful disease. I highly recommend eating right, sleeping well, exercising, and trying not to stress out to much because these things can trigger shingles. Trust me you do not want it.

Yorkshire Pudding	Generally if you get chicken pox as a kid, you contract shingles as an adult. Same virus.

Threasa G	Yes it is, your talking to a previous military flight nurse and now a civilian RN. It is very possible just depends on the person, my brother got chicken pox twice. I only got it as a child once. After the 2nd time though, it is very very low chance that you will get it again. Practically impossible to get it a 3rd time.

ROBIN	Yes, I had it twice as a child (aged 5/6 and again in my teens). If you then get it as an adult it is called shingles.

nicky dakiamadnat600bugmunchsqig	Depends on the severity of the first bout. My uncle suffered 7 times with chicken pox. You can get an adult form of chicken pox,this is known as shingles,and last a lot longer than chicken pox.

Jade Q	Absolutely is possible. Especially if your 1st time was a mild case. Do you have a hot tub? Reason I'm asking is I know someone who had a rash looked like chicken pox, it turned out to be from the hot tub. The blisters would definately be filled with fluid. They look like water blisters and they are ITCHY!

Hermun	Rarelly you can get it twice. Usually only if you have an altered immune system, for example you've been immuno-supressed following a solid organ transplant. Or if you've had a bone marrow transplant you loose all your aquired immunity, including vaccinations and previously exposed diseases.

zoef	YES..ive had it 3 times then i got Shingles! Ive also had mumps 4 times and twice ive had german measles!!!!!!!!!!!! dont ask!

rja_agent	yes it is possible, its not very common but it does happen. presumably it occurs when the body does not build up a strong enough immunity

aroxyfreak	well you are suppost to get an immunity to it the first time you get it but i have read that some people have actually gotten it twice. so yes... but that hardly ever happens...

emily_jane2379	If you had a very mild case then you may not develop full imunity to it, and may catch it again. You can, also , as some others have said, get shingles which is more comon in older people and is related to the chicken pox virus

Second attacks of chickenpox are rare, although very mild re-infections can occur, particularly in patients whose immune systems have been compromised in some way. Shingles is a re-emergence of the chickenpox virus, which can occur many years after the original chickenpox infection. Usually the cause is a reduction in your body's natural resistance to disease, which may be caused by stress, through being generally 'run down', or occasionally, when the body's defences have been affected by certain drugs or other immune deficiencies. As shingles is caused by reactivation of the dormant virus, it is possible to have shingles more than once. If you have any doubts whatsoever then your best bet would be to make an appointment to see your doctor.

High On Life	yes it is. It doesn't happen often, but yes it does. Generally people who have had it once develop immunity to it, but some people don't. It seems to run in families, actually, like if one family member gets/got the chicken pox repeatedly, it's probable that another member will too.

purplepadma	My children have both had it twice - in each case they had it fairly mildly, with only a few spots, the first time round, then a lot worse the second time.

jacg	Depends on how seriously the first case was. My daughters had mild chickenpox when they were 2 and 4 months old. They then had them again about 6 months later but these were the mother of all chickenpox. Even the chickenpox had chickenpox.
