Depends on when they get medical treatment. Some survive through it themselves while others will die within 5 minutes.

I know several people live up to 20 - 30 years after the attack.

The slowly cutting down method doesn't work. As long as Nicotine is coming into the body, the body is gonna demand the higher levels it's use to.

Quiting cold turkey is realistically the only way to go about it.

Most the symptoms are mental, so the increased anxiety would be the only real worry that could effect his heart.

A Dr. should prescribe him a anti-anxiety and/or anti-depression med to not only reduce this risk, but to also aid in helping him quit.

varies dramatically, depending on which artery is clogged and how clogged.
My husband survived hours (because we thought it was indigestion!), but when we got to the hospital he needed to be shocked back within minutes of our arrival.
My mother-in-law survived a number of "silent heart attacks" before she found out she had a heart condition. Her blockages involved small arteries so hers were not life threatening.

with proper treatment you can live for many, many years, that includes proper meds, good eating , and good excercise, and good attitude. i had a heart attack four years ago, i am 55yrs old now. i am going strong and plan to live until i am 90

That would depend on the amount of blockage, speed in which you got to the hospital/took medication and finally the treatment you received. Remember if there's blockage and they have to do bypass surgery the health of the veins they use will also affect the outcome.

Anything from a few minutes to 60-70 years/.
