Please help??????
I found out a couple years ago that i have a heart murmur. I haven't been to the doctor for it since i was about 11.. and i'm now 15. Latey i've been feeling out of breath and dizzy, and feeling alot of anxiety for no reason. Could this be related to my heart murmur? Like is it getting worse or something maybe?...

Heart mumur is common, and most often does not cause heart problems. With your age, you may either have ASD (atrial septal defect), VSD (ventricular septal defect) or MVP (mitral valve prolapse). The first 2 means that you have a hole in your heart, but if the hole is small, no other treatment or surgery is required. MVP on the other hand is a benign condition, and will cause palpitations, dizziness and shortness of breath, even for no reason at all.

You might want to have a check up, if you feel that your condition is getting worse, otherwise, proper breathing exercises and avoiding stress is a good way to stop you from those symptoms.

Hope that helps you somewhat.

From the sounds of things you have mitral valve prolapse, which is a very common cause for murmurs. You are also describing the common symptoms of one. You need to see a doctor and have a workup done to determine the status of it, and to help you find the things that are setting it off. It could be you have too much caffeine in your diet, or something else is going on. At any rate, you need to be seen by a cardiologist and have a full exam. There's no reason to be frightened of this idea, it doesn't mean you are going to keel over and die anywhere in the near future because you aren't. But if you truly have an MVP, it does need annual evaluations done and there are some things you need to know about. A cardiologist is the best person to go over all of this with you and your parents. So tell your parents you need to see the doctor for your heart, and go from there. Until then, cut back on the soda and chocolate, and simply take things easy when you feel the heart racing or feel out of breath. Remind yourself it is nothing deadly and you are still in control. Concentrate on breathing normally and calming yourself, and things will settle back down.

Having heart and breathing problems, I strongly urge you to
see a Cardiologist soon. Your problem could be as simple
as not getting enough oxygen into your lungs or your blood
stream. I have had a heart condition for many years and only
recently developed additional shortness of breath, which I
assumed was from my Asthma condition. I had a few breathing tests and a special gas/blood test (I forget what it
is officially called) where they take blood from your wrist.
And they determined I didn't have enough oxygen. So I am
now on a oxygen machine at home, and I have a small tank
in a backpack I wear when I leave the house. It has made
a great difference and I feel so much better being able to
breathe and function better. I was under alot of stress and
anxiety at first, just because of the shortness of breath. But
the palpitations and shortness are gone now, since I use
the oxygen machine for much of the day.
I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about, but you
should be evaluated by a specialist in the know, so he can
help correct whatever problem you have, soon. It's no fun
trying to live a normal life and have something holding you
back from not feeling well.
Take care!

A heart murmur will not cause anxiety, but anxiety could increase heart rate and cause problems. You need to let your parents know and go see the doctor.

Go to the doctor for a check up threy may refer you to a cardiologist. Dont be aanfraid to go, it may save your life if something is not right. And if everything is ok, then you will be relieved and can go on with your life instead of being worried and wondering about the "what if's "
