I don't think they should have to, from my judgment they should be taken care of by either the state or the government because of all the work they have done threw out there life's and for what they have done in the past that has helped create our country today. Besides they have paid Taxes for most of there life's, shouldn't they be taken care of in return. Just think of all the Veterans that risked there life's and lost there love ones to help protect the freedom that we all love today.

This country should have some provision for national health care it costs far too much and the average family will go bankrupt trying to pay doctor bills. residential care would cost more than these people could have saved up. It is a problem that is gonna get worse before it gets better. Think about it the baby boomers, the largest generation since they been keeping such records and the youngest of them are hitting retirement age. Birthcontrol was also freely available to them so they had fewer children which leaves less taxpayers to take care of more elderly people. Time to stop paying for wars and death and start paying for Life and Health

I feel that when the elderly person's savings from their past income, assets, and retirement is depleted, than medicare or medicaid should help pay for a nursing home, or home health care, or what ever that individual may need to live the rest of their live comfortably. After all, that person was a tax payer for quite awhile at one time.

The system as it exists today forces families to place their elderly loved ones in nursing homes. It is a racket. If my mother would have been allowed to pay me just half what medicaid is having to pay the nursing home I could have afforded to quit my job and stay home so my mother could have continued to live with us. Instead as law dictates, when she required more care than we could offer while remaining employed she was forced to go to a nursing home where in just 4 months all of her life savings was depleted. Now that she is flat broke medicaid will take over paying the nursing home. Of course it is not a nice posh facility because they want more than medicaid. My mother has Alzheimer's and it is terrible that she is now surrounded by strangers in a strange place. The problem I see isn't that medicaid wont pay enough it is that the laws about how she could choose to spend her own money for care are to strict and skewed in nursing facilities favor over family.
