I got a cartilage piercing in each ear about a week ago. Both were completely fine, no pain or anything, up until yesterday, when they started hurting a lot. Has this happened to anyone? I have had cartilage piercings before with no problem and have been taking care of the earrings (cleaning rotatating and such) like I was told to. Any advice? Gracias
Additional Details
P.S. There is no pus or anything oozing from them, just red and painful.

yes, this happened to me. mine hurt when i got it pierced, like a normal type of sore and then that pain went away but a few days later it started throbbing to the point where i couldnt sleep on that side of my head and it started pussing and turning red. come to think of it it was probably infected, but i just kept taking the proper care of it and everything was fine after about a month or so. you may want to call the place where you got pierced and tell them whats going on and see what they suggest. |

All I know is that my teacher got one, and it got infected. :0/ It could also just be that your ear is sore, and it just started hurting. I'm not sure, but I hope it feels better! |

The first time I got my cartilage pierced (12 years ago) it did not hurt to get it pierced...it was the healing process that was painful. I definitely remember it being sore for well over a week. I slept with my hand cupped over it just so I could sleep on that side. As long as it is clean and there is no sign of infection, it will go away. |

I have been having the same problem in one of my ears. Make sure you wear real gold and take it out at night. Not sure why this happens though sorry. |

Yeah, its probably just irration from sleeping on them or something else that has put pressure on the area. Just make sure you keep up with all of the cleaning practices and do what you can to keep pressure off the area. Also, if you have long hair its best to keep it pulled back. The products and oil from it can cause irration as well. Keep in mind these take a LONG time to heal it and will continue to get irraitated from time to time. even when your being careful. It was a year before I stopped having issues with my conch piercing. |

Sounds to me like they might be infected or you've developed an allergy to the metal. You should see your doctor about it immediately. For now, apply a triple-antibiotic ointment (Neosporin or bacitracion <Sp?) to the area until you can get to a doctor. |

Yep, I have had piercings in just about every part of my ear that can be pierced. (I have a inner conch now... REALLY COOL) Anyways, yeah after a week it still hurts, maybe just for a few days. I doubt it got infected just after a week, especially if you've been taking care of it. With my piercings, I find that it doesn't hurt at first but after a few days it starts to. Don't worry about it, just keep taking care of it like you have been, and if it still hurts after a couple days, go to the doctor (if you are really worried) If both ears started to hurt the same day, it's probably not likely that it's infected or that you caught it on anything. Most likely your body is just healing it. |

Clean both the earrings AND the areas where you have the peircings with Hydrogen Peroxide twice a day and be patient. I did that several years ago and I remember it hurting for quite a while. I'd even say a month or two. Just because it hurts doesn't mean it's infected, but the redder it is the more likely it is infected. Cartilage peircings tend to get infected pretty easily, so just keep it clean!! |
