give him 500 calories more than usual for a week and he'll gain a pound because 3500 calories equal a pound. :)

Nothing really. Just make sure child is eating a very healthy, balanced diet everyday. This may be the way your child is.

is he really THAT skinny? What is the real problem? Is he boney-skinny, or just skinny-skinny? 'know what i mean?...
But anyway, you should worry more about keeping him fit instead of gaining weight. Keep him active with sports and eating good food with alot of protein. He'll bulk up with good muscles instead of bad fat.
As he gets older it will help him in his teen years. He'll be lean and healthy. Not overweight and lazy.

what type of weight? mussle is about 3 times as heavy as fat. for fat weight- get him to indorse whole milk, cake, sweets, ice cream, other foods containing saturated fat, not unsats which is bad, same with trans fats. for mussle weight- get him to eat alot of meat, beans, proteins, and get him to excercise, weight lift, etc.

Leave him be!
I was very skinny right into my early high school years and people thought there was something wrong with me. This only made me worry. Now I'm in my twenties and I have a normal weight. I even got too heavy at one point. Anyway, feed the kid 3 balanced meals a day and leave it at that. His metabolism will slow down as he gets older.

Vin Diesel recently had to gain weight for a movie, he said he ate a quart of ice cream every day. Your son is prob smaller, have him eat a half a quart of ice cream every day, along with meat and other goodies.

You shouldn't force your 8-year-old to eat unless he doesn't eat at least 3-times a day. One GOOD thing you could do is buy Vitamins +iron for him. Iron causes formation of hemoglobin to bring oxygen throughout his body. Simply, iron will give him energy and he won't feel so tired so he'll eat more. It does make sense since more energy = more refueling needed from food. The hemoglobin also brings oxygen letting the muscles hold more oxygen needed to make energy so all in all, it's a good thing.

I was a realllllly skinny kid but i found out that i had diabetes and that was the root of the problem. Look for signs of diabetes it could be a possibility.
Some signs are: Frequent urination, bed wetting (not the most prevalent but just in case), constant thirst, shakiness, decreased appetite or increased (depends on type), night sweats, etc...
just a thought.

you can't really get him to "gain weight"....as a child grows, he stretches out and appears to be thinner. Then he will gain weight, and stretch out again. That's just the wya it works. Kinda like putting on pantyhose...as you pull them on, they stretch out, and become thinner.

What is your definition of skinny? What is the weight and height? If you look at a growth chart, what percentile does he fall in? What is his diet like? Does he eat regular meals? This information is important in order to establish whether there is a need to worry.

if he can drink milk (and will, even on cereal and stuff) switch him to whole milk instead of 1%, 2% or skim. They have weight gain shakes too...you could try looking them up. My brother had this problem because he is on Aderal (spl) for ADHD and was loosing too much weight.

If he's healthy and full of energy, he may just be naturally thin. By "forcing" him to eat, you could be subjecting him to obesity later on! Unless you truly think he has a mental problem and is not eating purposely, then I truly wouldn't worry about it.
Things to keep an eye on: his activity level and what kind of food he is eating. Even if he is thin, junk food is definitely not helping him.

What a coincidence. I was just looking at pictures of my son from age 14, 15,16, 17, 18, and now at 19. He is SOOOOO skinny. I guess I never really noticed. I knew he was thin, I mean he's now 6'4" and weighs 151 pounds. He has not been chubby since he was 3 months old and solely survived on breast milk.
Yet he is very healthy, athletic, intelligent and eats like a horse. His sister, who is 16, 5'9", weighs 155 (tell me THAT's not an issue) tells me she knows a lot of skinny guys her age. The doctor tells me he is and always has been healthy, if low weight percentile, and I shouldn't worry.
Still. I worry. Why are we never satisfied? Do you really think you need to worry? B/c if so, get a good diet from your pediatrician, and add pediasure supplements to it. That'll help, at least in the short run.
Good luck.
