Tetanus toxoid vax is good for 10 years (not 5). Do the math. If you can't recall when you last had one, it's time for a booster.

Of course you need a tetanus shot or even a booster shot, rusty or not, especially a nail gun, chemicals on that nail have entered your bloodstream (metal particles, oil preservatives and glue?) can cause a lot of pain, even infection, GET TO A DOCTOR NOW ! Take a sample of the nails off the roll with you too ! Just in case.

Yes you do. It doesn't have to be rusty to have a germ on the end of it. Check with your doc and see if your shots are caught up. If you are an adult..you are probably like most of us and didn't keep up with our tetnus shots.

if you have not had a tetanus shot in the last 5 years you should get one immediately. even though the nails were new, there is metal dust, residue or just general dirt in the air that could get you a serious infection.
go to the doctor and do it now!
good luck and um do they have training on nail guns?

I will add my yes even though i see i don't have to by now but, heck i like two points just as much as anyone else i guess. SO YES you should have one no longer than 24 hours after an incident happens. I see someone also said if you have not had one in 8-10 years and yes that is about how long they do last but...and yes there is always a but isn't there? well, in this case the butt, is this they always recommend a booster shot when something happens so its just as important to go if you have had one as it is if you have not.

if you have not had a tetanus shot in the last 7 years you should get one immediately. even though the nails were new, there is metal dust, residue or just general dirt in the air that could get you a serious infection. Also if you are havin pain while walking you may need crutches.

Absolutely!! Even if it was a "new" coil, it's been exposed to the air which has many, many types of contaminates. Even if you've had a tetanus shot, unless it was just recently, it's alway a good idea to get a "booster" just to be safe and have the doc check the area of the wound. Keep the area clean and if any redness shows up, get into a doc for antibiotics.
