I BIT MY NAILS FOR OVER 30 YEARS. YUK. TRUST ME. WHEN I SEE OTHER PEOPLES NAILS THAT HAVE BEEN CHEWED/BIT/KNAWLED I WANT TO THROW UP. IT IS SO UNSANITARY. IT IS DISQUSTING LOOKING. FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVERYTHING. I AM LIVING PROOF THAT STRESS LEVELS TRIGGER THE HABIT. I NO LONGER BITE MY NAILS. IF I CAN STOP YOU CAN TOO! I ALSO QUIT SMOKING AFTER 10 YEARS. MY NAILS ARE VERY STRONG AND GROW FAST, MAKES ME FEEL BEAUTIFUL. YOU NEED WILL POWER. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. |

Start scratching your bum with them. If you don't stop biting then, you have a psychological issue! LOL |

Try "Bite Free" nail treatment. I found it at Target. It stopped me and my kids from biting our nails. It tastes awful! Just in case you can't find it, here is the companies web site www.aiibeauty.com |

Just remember that there are more germs and bacteria under your nails than on a toilet seat. |

It'll take a while, but just always be aware of biting your nails. IF that doesn't work/you want it faster, put leamon juice/vinigar on them. |

They have nail polish that tastes terrible and bitter specifically for nail-biters. |

There's a nail polish you can use which will have a bitter taste if you go to bite your nails. That should work pretty well. Or if you just use regular polish, you won't want to mess up your nails so you'll stop biting them. |

This will sound stupid but wear gloves. You will get ridiculed a bit but you will stop biting. |

put acid on them so you will get burned every time you touch it, you will get burned, or just cut your nails, to little stumps so small, you wont be able to bite them. |

There is this really gross flavored stuff that they sell some places that you can put on your nails and it'll make them taste so unbelievable horrible that you won't want to bite them. Either try that, or get someone to hypnotize you to stop. |

it is all about will power. When you want to bite your nails get some gum and chew that. That helps. There is also some special nail polish when you bite your nail it has a nasty taste to them and you will stop too. GOOD LUCK |

I'm 25 and I STILL bite my nails!! The only time I had any success at stopping was when I was ten. I gave it up for Lent. And it worked!! I started biting them again when I was older, under a lot more stress. But I don't do it all the time. Only when my nerves are so shot I can't control my nervous habits, or when my nails are too long and I don't have nail clippers handy. Good luck!:) |

Why would you stop biting your nails? It's fun. |

I know this may sound gross but if you have fingernail polish remover just brush a cotton ball with nail polish remover across your nails a few times and let it dry. If you go to bite your nails, that remover will leave a gross taste in your mouth. This should help you limit your nail biting until you stop. |

Nail Biting (onychophagia) can spread bacterial infections and can be responsible for severe dental problems, including gingivitis. Oral diseases can also be spread via nail biting because of the constant contact of fingers with the mouth of the individual. For instance, oral herpes can actually begin to grow on the fingers due to the constant contact, according to medical journals. Mild Aversion therapy is a "physically observable deterrent" and can be described as something as simple as snapping a rubber band on the inside of the wrist each time the nail biting urge occurs. Using a bitter tasting product that coats the nail or wearing gloves are other deterrents. Self-Monitoring requires the nail biter to keep a written record of all incidences in hopes that awareness of the problem will stimulate self-control. Habit reversal is perhaps the most "successful" and "valid" therapy for nail biting, using a step by step program that seeks to make the individual aware of her behavior and then provide a physically competing response to interfere with it. It combines record keeping, relaxation training (yoga) and response competition (performing a physical action when the desire to bite occurs) Find a salon that will apply artificial nails for you. If they tell you to grow some of your nail before you come back, find another salon. Nail Biters nails are more difficult to work on but a well trained nail tech will be able to perform miracles. If you do not want artificial nails, weekly manicures are very successful. Having someone pay attention to your nails every week has many effects. By having weekly manicures you eliminate all hangnails, rough nails and anything else that you may find to pick at or chew. Also like those weight losing programs, having someone else pay attention to your progress (in this case your nails) will encourage you to pay attention to your nails. You must make a full commitment...maybe by paying for services up front it will encourage you to stay on the program. Check out the Web Sites below. Good Luck. |

My mom had this nailpolish that she used to put on my sister who used to constantly bite her nails. I'm not sure what it is called. Whenever my sister bit her nails, it would make her stop. I've never tried it so I don't know what it does to you. But all I know that it stops people who bite their nails to stop biting them. You can try going to a nail salon or a spa and ask if there is a product like that in stores. Or if it is available there. |

I am 29, I do too - I was only able to stop twice - when I put on acrylics for my wedding and one other time! You will break your freakin' teeth if you bite those - plus they don't get ragged and tempt you. They are a lot of upkeep, though. |

There are two methods that I've seen work for other people. The first is that bitter nail polish you can pick up at the pharmacy. The second is scotch tape. A friend of mine put a small strip of scotch tape on each of her nails and it really helped her quit biting them. Good luck!! |
