Although many factors influence how much sleep you really need, most young adults report sleeping about seven and a half hours on weekday nights and eight and a half hours on weekend nights. And the common recommendation is eight hours a night. But individual needs vary greatly. There are so-called short-sleepers and long-sleepers -- those who need as little as five and a half hours to as much as about nine and a half hours.

Doing the Right Thing
7 to 8 hours is good. Anything less is bad, anything above is ok I guess. I used to sleep 12 hours when I was in college and I'm still perfectly healthy (got no baggy eyes at least) lol.

I think that eight hours is the ideal, but I rarely get that, with kids and early mornings and so on. I think I may be undersleeping, and catching up on the weekend just makes you grumpy on Mondays! It is useful to have quiet time in your day, even if you are not asleep you should take a time out for a walk, read a magazine or lie down for a few minutes to recharge.

7-8 are recommended. Not sleeping enough is bad for the body though but I don't know if oversleeping has any effects other than just a feeling of being lazy and wasting your day lol.

They say adolescents need the most, always more than 8 hours, like 10.
Though the average adult could use 8. I think that's a good amount. Of course it all depends on the "quality" of the sleep because i could sleep really well for 6-7 hours and be fine or at times 8 hours doesn't feel like enough.

Since i exercise regularly and eat a well-rounded diet there's no need to over sleep. Well, unless i have to be at work...just kidding :)

I sleep way too much! On average around 11-12 hours. I work my own hours so I can get away with it. Right now I am under the weather so I fell alseep for 8 1*2 hours today (during the afternoon) basically I slept the whole day.

I usually sleep 4 to 5 hours every day, usually in the week ends I do 8 or 9 to catch up.
It depends on the person. My wife has to sleep her 8 hours every night. I don't need so many, but I usually have to have at least one day a week when I can sleep all I want.

3, 6 or 9 hours, its always best to sleep in 3 hour incramants because you get into a rem sleep pattern that way and get more rest, if you wake up in the middle of the cycle you'll wake up more tired than when you went to bed.

Notice how different everyones answers are. It varies for every individual. Personally, I can't get more than 7, or I'm tired all day. I have a friend that's more than energetic on 4 hours a night. It has been said that 8 hours is what everyone needs, but that's not true at all. It depends on you, and your level of activity. If you work out heavy, you may find you need more sleep than you usually do. Maybe test yourself for a couple weeks, experiment with getting between 5 and 9 hours of sleep, log what day, how many hours you slept, how you felt when you got up, and how you felt thurought the day.. and how you feel when it's time for you to sleep again. Test it out and use your results to determine what works best for you.

8 hours is the average person required to sleep. I don't over sleep in week days i gets like 5 or 6 hrs of sleep in week days because of college and work. But in week end i sleep like 12 to 13 hrs.
