The gum trick does NOT help. The calories add up.
Stay as far away as possible from the food! Ex: if the food is in the kitchen downstairs and you have an upstairs, go upstairs with NO food! Or go outside and sit somewhere and read! This will distract you hopefully.

find some new activities to involve yourself in. like, find a book to start reading, or play a video game, or go out and ride a bike or play ultimate frisbee with your friends. anything that gets your mind off of eating, and helps you not be bored. as for why, it could be anything. you're just replacing an activity with food. it's easy, and many people do it. hopefully you'll be okay!

well the answer is its a habit. you can stop this habit by eating in your right times(breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a small snack in between courses) a possible way to stop from eating when bored is to find something to do in your spare time like read, draw, do an outdoor activity, call a family member/friend and have some time together. I do too and I hate it. I didn't used to be this way. The only way I know of to stop is to start exercising. In the past it worked for me. I have even gotten personal trainers to get me TO the gym, b/c that seems to be the hardest part. You know, if I make an appointment, I'm likely to show up:)

just out of boredom, try to get moving, or find a hobby. I either clean, go for a walk/shopping, something, only eat at set times.

The best thing to do when you get bored and want to eat is to find another activity to do to take your mind off of the hunger. Play a video game, go for a jog, read a book, go shopping. All these activities will take away the temptation of eating out of boredom.

I do it also. Grab a glass of water and find something to do. I swear I could lose a lot of weight staying on the Internet all the time!

Maybe you can try eating something boring, like cucumbers or Celery. After a while, you may be so sick of it, you just stop all together!!

drink water when you are hungry- much of false hunger or wanting to eat when you are not hungry is due to dehydration...
Also, Celery is really low calorie if you must eat, try that with peanut butter which will satisfy your eating craving until you can completely stop....also, the smell of certain herbs work as appetite suppressants, which might help to alleviate your craving. Think of a reward from yourself if you can stick to eating 4 times per day, or a small meal 6 -8 times (fruit, veggies)
with no late night eating. Or even you can eat anything you want before 7 but after 7 no eating except on special occasions...

im not sure why people eat when they're bored, but a way to stop is to chew gum and drink lots of water to fill you up.

it's cravings. they usually last for 14 mintues so just try to not think about what you want to eat for 14 mintues and you'll get over it.

i do that too! and im trying to diet, ill eat and feel so guilty. the best thing you can do is KEEP busy!!! I am homeschooled at and home 24/7 so you can imagine how bored i get!!! Watch movies! play with your pets, exerisize. Do your makeup? {lol} do your hair just keep busy

Why, Im honestly not sure. But I do the same thing. I read that you should read, listen to music, or go outside and get some exercise. Exercising will help get ur mind off of food and it will give u more energy. Also, try to eat healthy stuff. Not junk when ur bored. Hope that somewhat helps.

Ugh. Its the same with me...
BUT!!!!
when your bored go out and take a walk and if its raining entertain yourself by trying to do intervals of push ups. Like... do (20) push ups then try (21) after a few minutes and that should keep you entertained for at least 20 minutes

you eat when your board because you hate being bored and eating gives you something to do....
to stop just always keep in mind that you need to stop or you are going to get fat fast!
see some really overwieght pics of people who did that too and see how unhappy that look and how hard there life is , it will give you something to do and you will def want to stop

You eat when you're bored, because you're bored and it gives you something to do. You can stop by only eating when you feel hungry and when I say hungry, I mean that you need food. A lot of times when you think you're hungry, you actually need water. Good Luck!

i have this SAME problem, lol, so what i do is chew gum. yup, that's it. I chew gum because it gives me a taste in my mouth, and as soon as the flavor goes away, i eat another one. That way, it seems like i am eating, but i'm REALLY NOT, lol, pretty nice, huh???

i do the same exact thing..
what i do when i get bored is try to find something else to do..even if its cleaning..
either that or i think in my mind everytime that happens is.. "you dont need it" over and over again.

Find something you're passionate about. When you get the urge to eat avoid the fridge or cabinet or wherever you store your junk food. You can put big stop signs on the fridge, cabinets. etc. up to help guide you when you want to go to those places. Really work on your hobby instead of eating.

I think a lot of people have this issue.
I would say carry around bottles of water
and drink water instead of eating anything.
Or, bring fruit to eat like apples.
It is a habit to eat when bored and it takes
some time and effort to break it but it can be done.

You eat when you're bored because you want to occupy yourself with something. Drink a glass of water and allow yourself 15 minutes to just wait...after 15 minutes, a craving will go away (interesting, kinda pointless fact).
You can STOP this by focusing on other thigns. Join a sport, go for a hike, read a book, take a bath, etc.
