Nothing you eat will sober you up that takes time. And you are partially right about the calories but there is anywhere from 135 to 165 calories in every 12 ounces of beer so imagine the caloric intake if you drink 10 beers!!!!!!!!

As post-drinking food, shoving a sloppy kebab, burger or pizza down my gob seems like a dynamite idea.
As hangover food, it has to be a full English breakfast. Eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, sausage, fried tomato, fried onions.... i'm not hungover and I'm still drooling.
There is apparently a scientific dietary explanation for the allure of greasy food when suffering from a hangover. I don't know what it is, but I know that the inhibition-lowering qualities of booze probably play a part (this is a massive reason why we eat when we're drunk. And you're still a bit drunk when you're hungover, so your willpower is skewed).
The craving for meat and eggs may have something to do with the fact that part of the cause of a hangover is protein depletion (dehydration is the main cause). That's why anti-hangover pills often contain protein supplements.

Well, I personally am an experienced drinker. I've been through four years of college parties, bar hopping, and you name it. The answer to this question is that nothing you eat will make you sober. You must drink water. Downing about 2 bottled waters or more, then taking 4 asperin or IBProfen before you go to sleep (or pass out) will cut down the affects of the hangover. The water flushes the toxins and impurities out of your system, while the pain pills help you to sleep and not wake up with a pounding headache. Eating after drinking is just a good way to end the night in my opinion. It does nothing to cure a hangover. Also, use extreme caution when taking any kind of medication before, during, or after consuming alcohol. Medication with alcohol may not affect me, however, it may affect others seriously or even fatally.

Strawberry milkshake (from McDonald's) Sorts my body out after a night out!
Your body craves *munchies* after a night out kinda like your body crying out to restore the sugar/salt balance! Plus, kinda like a wee alarm to say *Oi - you are drunk, dummy - go get some food n sort your wobbly butt out!* LOVE IT!
My fave feeling is when the room is spinning... LOVE that feeling!! x

there's nothing you can drink to 'sober up'. its a common misperception that having food in your stomach or eating after drinking can make on sober. no matter what you eat your liver has to metabolize the alcohol you have ingested using enzymes to break the alcohol down. NOW, some people's liver naturally contain more of this enzyme and thus they may seem to their friends as better able to "hold their liquor". however everyone has a point at which the enzymes in their liver that breakdown alcohol can become 'overwhelmed' but the more of this enzyme you have, the more you can "hold your liquor". does that make sense. when i say hold liquor i mean not being a stammering, falling down drunk. but you can definitely still be impaired (unfit to drive etc). also, having a liver that is an efficient metabolizer of alcohol does not effect your blood alcohol level.
whatever you do be careful and don't drink and drive.

The reason it is so tempting to eat fast food after drinking is because of the sugar rush you have just had. So the fatty food helps keep you going. Alcohol is full of sugar.
And normally the only place that would serve a drunk person is a kebab shop!

Eat nothing that involves mushrooms.
Seriously, after consuming alcohol, eating anything that contains mushrooms will just make you want to throw up. Heh.

There is an old saying, "There's a pork chop in every beer." It is not the snack you eat , but rather the thousands of calories consumed while drinking that produce the infamous gut. Think about it, each beer has 90-120 calories and a good night of drinking with shots mixed in can equal many, many calories. Darts and pool or even beer pong are not considered cardio, no matter how excited you may become.

Bananas contain Potassium, which the alcohol leaches out of your system - so they are certainly a good option. Also drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids after drinking (before going to bed) - or take a non-alcoholic drink between each alcoholic one. These measures won't sober you up immediately, but they will speed up the process and help prevent hangover symptoms.

Theres nothing you can eat to sober up. Time is the only thing that will sober you up. And the reason you eat junky fast food after drinking is because fast food places are the only thing open at 2 - 3 in the morning.

It's called syrup of Ipecac.. you can get it at any pharmacy.
Any alcohol that your body has already absorbed before you take this will just need time for your body to process.
But, you won't have to worry at all about alcohol still in your stomach and waiting to be absorbed. It'll cut down on the alcohol consumption.
And, it'll sober you up pretty darn quick.

There is no such thing as food to "sober you up." You are still drunk. Coffee doesn't do it either. Myths.
The only way to sober up is to drink plenty of water and wait about 24-48 hours (depending on how much you drank). That's the only way.

It's one of life's mysteries... i think you're right because nothing tastes better than a disgusting greasy doner kebab and chips on the way home from the pub! Maybe the grease and carbs soak up the alcohol, It's shameful but so good at the time!
