obviously reading through many of the questions on Yahoo answers this is a recurring theme. Unfortunately the way our brain is wired we are continuously seeking out food even when food is plentiful and we have adequate fat/ fuel reserves. There is no quick fix or magic trick to deal with weight loss. Ultimately we are governed by certain physics principles. Fat is a substance whose principal design/use is for the storage of energy in a compact and dense form. The amount of energy contained in fat is 3500 calories per pound. The rules regarding weight loss and fat consumption are virtually identical to the "rules" regarding fuel mileage and vehicle weight in cars. If you have a car that gets 10 mpg,and you accurately weigh this car before a trip and you get a figure of 2000 pounds. You drive the car 200 miles and you know that it gets 10 mpg exactly, in addition you had a fuel flow meter on the car for those 200 miles and sure enough you burned 20 gallons of gasoline over the 200 miles. If gasoline weighs 6.5 pounds per gallon you should be able to predict that the final weight of the car after 200 miles will be 2000-(20X 6.5) or 1870 pounds. If you stopped halfway through the trip and pumped in 10 gallons then you will end up with the car weighing 1930 pounds net.
The reason for this illustration is that the human body obeys similar rules. If you take the amount of calories that you take in during a period of time, say a week. From that figure you subtract the calories that you burned with your basal metabolic rate for the same period of time (a basal metabolic rate calculator can easily be found through Yahoo or Google) and this figure needs to be added to the extra calorie expenditures you made with exercise such as walking, running, swimming etc. When you take the calories taken in, and subtract the calories expended divide that figure by 3500 and you will have the amount of weight that you gained (if the number is positive), or the weight that you lost (if the number is negative). One thing for certain it will be exceptionally uncomfortable. Your body does not like having to tap into its reserves and as a result you will get hunger pains and all of the other things that can occur when you are running at a calorie deficit (bad breath, unusual smelling urine,) you will no doubt hear a lot about metabolism boosters and fat burners. The only problem is that they don't exist. The people who sell these products work on a simple premise; people who want to lose weight are desperate and will try almost anything regardless of how absurd it claims may be. Unfortunately telling people that something is going to be uncomfortable and require large amounts of self-discipline doesn't sell well even if it is true. It's still much easier to sell a product by advertising that you can eat whatever you want, and you don't have to exercise, and the pounds will just melt away! And in America at least, you don't need to prove that claim in order to be able to sell your product. You may need to prove that product is at least not lethal when used as directed.

I think trying to lose weight under a time pressure is a recipe for failure/injury. not to mention 5'5" and 142 isn't exactly morbidly obese

but if you have more fat than muscle you can tone up by EXCERCISING. shouldn't be too hard it's summer after all. Go for a run on the beach etc.
And eat right. Again think of all the wonderful healthy summer fruits.

I'm not sure but you seem pretty tall for 14 and your weight is probably healthy, but! you're trying to lose weight....I joined a gym and I was not motivated to go since it was hard to get a ride...I suggest you buy dumbells, a mat, and maybe an exercise ball...look up what you can do online, put some music on and start working up a sweat! Maintain active and for sure you'll lose weight

Stop drinking sodas all together and replace them with water instead.You might not like water too much, but after a while you get used to it. Also try to walk or jog a Lil' ways everyday, mainly in the evening or when it isn't too hot.This should start you off to lose some weight...Oh and you are not fat!

Walk for an hour a day; ride your bike (be careful and have supervision), eat and drink diet foods (diet drinks, lean cuisine). Stay away from soda-diet or regular.
DO NOT starve yourself or purge food. The acidity in puke burns away the enamel of your teeth as well as your esophagus over time and starving yourself will lead to developmental issues, especially since you are only 14.

Just start doing more exercise and eating healthy. There is no other solution, especially if you want to keep the weight off and not eat it all back later.

Jogging is the most accessible so I would recommend that. Weight training will help you burn more calories when you're not exercising.

Eating right is probably the most important though. If you jog an hour and then eat a Big Mac + Coke you prob just net gained calories.

Start exercising slowly. Don't kill yourself either. Do physical activities that you enjoy doing. Try to increase the time each day. Make it fun and try not focusing so much on losing weight. Your so young, before you know it the pounds will come off :)

Go to the gym, or just lift weights and do crunches in ur room. Eat healthier. Lots of veggies and fruit. Try not to eat much bread or dairy.Try to work off the sugar and fat that u eat.

Sit ups really help work out your stomach.
Running is also a great way to tone your body.
Jumping jacks are also a great way and they are easy.

Also, be sure to eat breakfast because if you don't, you metabolism will slow down and eating a cracker will be like eating a turkey.

Jogging or running,push ups,sit ups, basketball,football, or any exercises. lol but make sure when you are done with excersising don't eat junk foods. Or eating late at night!

you can loose a good amount of weight fast by eating no sodium which is salt..it gets all the water weight out.

Girl here are the things u need to do.
1. excercise like running, cardio or dance. Do anything to stay active even jumping.
2. Eat foods that have less fat and calories. So cut down on the sweets. The problem is a lot of peole eat high calorie foods but arent active enought ot burn them off.
3. Balance your Meals. That means eat normal proportions at normal times of the day. Listen to your stomache if your stomach is full its full. Dont starve yourself!!!
4.Deal with your emotions. People when they are angry or sad tend to eat. So learn to deal with feelings other than food.
5. Overall drink water soda and even diet soda have a lot of sodium and sugar either way.
6. Feel good about yourself!!! A healthy attitude leads to a healthy mind that leads to a healthy body.
7. Remember never think of being thin think of being fit : )

well first you must drink protein shakes everymorning with rusty nails raw eggs and pesticedes. if you live then your strong enough to come fit. once you do that. you must call the US goverment federal agency. then you say the briefcase is by the bench. theyll know what you mean. and oh the person who will answer the phone is named double j twizzle. call him twizzler. thatll make you have really cool fingernails double j twizzle and i were best friends in college. it was freakin awesome. we were the coolest kids and got drunk everynight. i swear that was the best time of my life. cept for the fat kids. i hated them! wait....................................... was the question again?

First, learn to spell.

All you need to know is one pound of fat is 3500 calories, and the average person burns 2000 calories on idle. Weight loss is just a matter of eating fewer calories. DO NOT GO UNDER 1200 NET CALORIES PER DAY. I can not stress this enough. Your body needs at least 1200 surplus calories per day to function properly, otherwise it starts converting bone and muscles to fat.

You are at a normal weight, but it is a little high. I would suggest eating 6 small meals a day, that way you are less hungry, and dont tend to snack.

Like maybe Celery and peanutbutter, or strawberries.

You could also exersice 30 every night before you go to bed.

Dont do anything derastic and unhealy, please.

Just be active also, take walks instead of driveing.

Now if you follow this...you WILL lose the weight by then

Cut what you now eat in half
No fast food
Only drink water
Jog for an hour at least 3 times a week
Try to take vitamins...they tend to make you poop a bit more

You are not fat. All teens are a bit heavy at your age. You are a healthy weight. But if you want to loose weight, try walking, swimming, or yoga.
