American eat more animal products than any other nation in the world. All meat, eggs and cheese are high in cholesterol and fat. America has the highest incidents of heart disease in the world. Americans need to change to a plant base diet. Plant base foods are much lower in fat, calories and have NO cholesterol.

Americans are mostly lazy because their poor diets of animal products make them feel tired and worn out and too tired to excercise or play... Think of how a lion acts after eating a meaty meal - he sleeps all day and night to Digest-It.

Well, this is my opinion:

We Americans don't have to work out if we don't want to, or unless are jobs require it. The popular foods are full of fat and calories, and they are much cheaper than healthier foods (Ex.- 1$ for a double cheese at McDonald's Vs. trying to buy fresh food at the grocery store and making a meal). Gym class in schools is a joke. The Health Care the U.S. does offer people rarely covers obesity related issues.

I dunno, there are more things I think but they are 100% opinion so I will leave them out. :)

the typical overweight american does not take responsibility for themselves.. they make excuses instead of realizing that if they want a change, then they have to put in the effort. unfortunately this type of person wants things done fast and cheap and therefore accomplishes nothing worthwhile :(

not all Americans are fat. just your typical American is fat. the problem is in the water. Most Americans don't drink H2O they rather have beer. Or much worst Sodas. Juice has been thought of as being healthy but it is loaded with sugar and most Americans don't know it. Then of course you have fast food. Americans don't seem to have the time to eat healthy or at healthy times. most don't get a chance to eat till bed time. i guess does are all just excuses, and the truth of the matter is not that they are ignorant or lazy. They just do not care. Because obviously if you care you will try. America has lost the drive to be healthy.

Environment - in Europe everything is closer together and people usually walk to get around. Gas is also a lot more expensive so people don't drive as much. In the US you pretty much have to drive to get anywhere unless you live in a big city. We also have easier access to cheap food so it is more difficult to make good food choices. We also have a culture that prizes quantity over quality.

Nutrition can be expensive these days. Great tasting food high in calories is easy to get and cheap. Fast food is on every corner and every store. I see fat people line up and order the worst food for their overweight condition and can only figure that they have gotten too comfortable (lazy) to go out and forage for quality foods.

High fructose corn syrup (processed sugar) and trans fat are in just about anything you buy these days, although the trans fat situation is getting better. Try finding a fruit juice at Target which contains no added sugar.

TV shows are marketed and scheduled to target people when they are home and ready to sit down for a little while. Instead of a short break, they settle in and watch about 3-4 hours of programming instead of walking or going out to the gym.

In short, its the American way and its no accident.

Because they eat junk, sit around all day and believe in magic pills and diet commercials. It is an epidemic and can be directly linked to these diet fads.

There have never been so many new diets, weight loss pills, exercise programs and medication than in the last five years and the percentage of overweight and obese people in the US has more than tripled. just goes to show that it is all hype, dosn't work, and just puts money into the hands of the skinny people who make them all look so good.

If you've read many health articles this year, obesity is becoming epidemic in Europe and Asia also. Since we think "interactive" video game systems are a lazy excuse, we walk and bike and go outside for fun and exercise as a family. Does that still mean we are still going to be generalized as fat and lazy Americans? God bless you.

It's sooooooo simple! EATING OUT...and lack of regular exercise...however, I am NOT one of the fatties...I am very skinny! 39 yrs old, 5 feet tall and only 96 pounds! NONE of my 4 kids are fat either...so were NOT the typ AMERICANS that eat out a lot. Were typ POOR americans...not enough money to buy extra food just the neccessities. We don't mind though for the most part...it keeps us fit and trim!

It's the Media. They advertise food alot and usually don't say whether it's healthy or not. And the healthy foods don't always look apealling. And maybe a little stupidity, but come on- lots of people would take soda and chips over water and veggies.

People no longer take responsibity for their own actions. It's easier to blame the world for people being lazy and eating foods dripping with fat that taste great. It's also easier for people to stop at Mcdonalds versus cooking a home cook meal.

I read that the US produces 4000 calories of food per person per day and the US has lots of money so they can afford it. So comapnies that sell food over size the portions to make extra money.

Easy access to high calorie, low nutrient foods, lack of exercise, busy lifestyles that are becoming more and more sedentary, and "fad diets" that not only don't work, but end up making us fatter. Lack of personal responsibility also plays a part ("its my metabolism!!").

I think it's a combination of a lot of things. Not only are we ignorant about nutrition, we are too damn busy to cook for ourselves. We buy all sorts of food, that we know nothing about because all we care about is if it tastes good. Nobody wants to know that soda is almost as acidic as battery acid or it alters your DNA when you drink it. Nobody wants to hear how their "healthy McDonalds Salad" is actually worse than the cheeseburger. We don't want to learn about nutrition because if you're low on a vitamin or mineral, they have a pill for that. Television isn't any better. They advertise more junk food than health food and our children are learning that sugar packed cereal is good because it's fortified with all sorts of vitamins and minerals. It's improtant to know what we put into our body because we only get one chance at life and who wants to spend it sitting on their couch because a walk to the park is too taxing?

hm...i think its because the fast food is so addicting to them. honestly, i believe that fast food is like a drug or like alcohol, and that it should be banned...but thats just me...
it could also be that they are uneducated on how to be healthy. or they're too lazy too exercise, and then eventually the problem gets serious and they can hardly even get up.
those are probably the main reasons...genetics is probably another possible cause. hope this helped!

PuggetAboutIt!
Definitely terrorists. Lol.

Americans have a desire for everything to be fast and convienient. That desire takes precedence over healthy food and exercise. We're busy. We're workaholics.

The flip side to that is pure laziness. It's easier to watch TV and grab McDonals than exercise or prepare a healthy meal.

Also, have you ever noticed how healthy food or anything low-fat or fat-free is more expensive? Some people just don't have the money for fresh fruits, vegatables, and lean meat. Ramen and high-fat, cheap TV dinners are more suitable for the budget.
