I want to run to lose weight, but just after one lap, I'm exhausted! And I'm only 13, and 125 pounds! Help!
What can I do? I want to do a ten minute work out to lose weight, but barely making it around the track, I don't think it's quite possible....

well, walk around, get some water or something while your waling it. And if that doesn't work, try to work out and find a good time to work out daily!! |

Don't push yourself too hard. Just start out at what you can handle, then slowly work your way up. Maybe do one lap a day for a week or two, or until it seems easy, then after that add another, then another, then another. Remember that a journey begins with a single step. |

How about not running but do yoga or pilates |

okay not to worry here, you just need to set you goals a little closer, you cant just expect to be able to run straight off,you need to build yourself up,why not walk one lap, fast walk another and then a slow jog to finish. this way your building yourself up,and getting fitter and used to running, youll find if you take it easy and build up little steps each time youll find youll be able to manage the work out much easier remember to drink lots of fluids whilst training, and why not listen to some music like an ipod/cassette what i do is the faster the song the quicker i work out the slower the song i take it easy hope this helps and dont give up!! =) |

Try to walk one then try to jog one. Don't force your body. If you find jogging to be difficult also. Then jog the long sides of the track and walk the short ones. Always begin end with walking one lap around the track. It takes going 5 times around the track to complete a mile. Good for you for trying to lose weight! |

One lap today, one and a half tomorrow, two by the end of the week. Just keep at it. You will get stronger. |

you are expecting too much of yourself too quickly. It takes time to get into shape, try running half the track and walking half the track and do two turns around the track. |

it's called stamina. You have to build that up. If you keep at it on a regular basis that 1 lap will turn into 2, 3 and so on |

I run track XC and indoor track and i have done awesomely (not bragging or anything i just mean awesomely for me) however if i go out and do a lap around my neighborhood i have the same problem my time drops i get winded quickly and i cant run the whole way you have to run with someone or against someone it helps 110% no doubt about you get either distracted comfortable or competitive try it get a group of friends together or something Also after running for a while it definitely gets easier Try swimming also its better for your joints. |

Just keep trying and don't give up! Last year I started running and I was just like you because I got exhausted after the first lap. I kept trying and pushing myself and now I can run a lot. I'm in track now and today I ran for 20 minutes straight and a total of like 2.5-3 miles! Just keep practicing and you'll get stronger. Drink a lot of water and eat healthy(lots of protein and good carbs etc.) and that will also make it easier. Your mind is telling you that you can't do it, but you just have to fight through that. Warm up, stretch, and take it slow at the beginning. Keep trying! :) |

Try simple things like reducing your portion sizes and eating healthy fruits and veggies. Remember, DONT STARVE YOURSELF. Eat when you're hungry, and that's all there is to it. Eat healthy and selectively, and maybe set one day aside where you can have a junky snack. If you really want to lose weight, you can't try and then bow out. STICK TO IT. And you'll lose weight for sure! Best wishes, Andrea |

you build up. start running for two minutes then just build up from that. like 2min 30 seconds. and on |

If you go to the track and try running as fast as you can for about thirty seconds then walk for a minute and jog for 45 seconds and repeat. Your gaining endurance when you do that. Remember if you get sore that its just the pain is the weakness leaving the body. :] I know this sounds hard but you also gotta keep up a healthy diet. |

You'll just have to gradually work up to your goal. It doesn't matter how old or how much you weigh. You just have have to build up your endurance and you will get healthier and be able to go longer! |

i work out some, but i can't run. i get winded when i run so i just do sit ups, pushups.. and other workouts than running.. maybe you should try that.. also try drinking a lot of water, it fills you up so you feel more refreshed.. mostly just do a basic conditioning.. 10 - 15 min should be plenty.. |

Just because you dont weigh a lot doesnt mean you arent out of shape!! You need to do cardio, to get yourself in shape. So, that it doesnt tire you out when you run just one lap! |

Try walking fast or jogging... Remember if you are not use to running all the time, you will get tired right away... Start slow then as you continue, it will get better with time... Good Luck and remember to drink lots of water too. |

You don't need to lose weight because you still are growing and if you're body doesn't have enough to grow on you will probably be shorter than other people.Plus if you lose weight it doesn't necessarily have to be fat since you need more muscles. |

start out with ten min as your target if you don't get all the way around that's OK after about a week you will start to see your distance increase. Just remember the key is to raise you heart rate and try to keep it at a constant and drink lots of water |
|

Try to start small and work your way up. Starting at a large rate just might not be possible for your body structure. After awhile it will be very easy for you. |

when you are just staring out... you need to take it slow... walk first or maybe alternate walking and running... but don't expect it to be easy from the start! you need to condition your body to be able to exercise |

Start slow by running for 2 minutes and walking for 10 minutes. Then do 3 and 7 the next week, then 4 and 6 maybe two weeks after that. Focus on how you feel and not how much you weigh. When you run, concentrate on your breathing: inhale with three footsteps, exhale with the next three footsteps. Do this for a while and you won't get winded so fast. Happy running! |

Run , walk, run, walk.... as long as you maintain an accelerated heart rate, the calories will burn. Eventually, you will be able to do more running and less walking. |

well, you are in the process of conditioning yourself. keep doing what you are doing and you will build stamina. with stamina, you will be able to last longer. keep it up and good luck! |

Hello. I used to weigh 300 pounds, and was in the same situation. I could run about a quarter of a mile because I was totally winded. But weight loss isn't about where you are NOW - it's about where you can go. Remember that - it's essential. And don't exhaust yourself. You don't have to be dead at the end of a good cardiovascular workout. If you have a hard time with 10 minutes, do 6 or 8 minutes. After a couple of weeks of 6-8 minutes, I promise you it will begin to get easier and easier. Then work your way up to 10-12 minutes. Again, after a couple of weeks, that will seem like nothing. Up your time again in, say, five-minute increments until you're excercising 20-30 minutes per day. Please do not be discouraged at where you're at. Just imagine where you CAN BE! Remember, don't starve yourself either. Eat sensibly, and eat a lot of small portions of good throughout the day. I now eat six or seven times a day, with three or four of those being nothing but half a cup of nuts or an apple or a few pieces of fresh pineapple. I hope this advice helps. To you and your health! |
