There are some gyms which cater for younger people. They can give you specific work outs that cater for your body which, whether you like it or not, is nowhere near finished growing yet. Call round some of your local health clubs and gyms and make some enquiries. Also be sure you use a qualified instructor as you could do yourself serious damage if you force your body to do things it isn't ready for yet.

Good luck!

At your age you don't want to be pushing yourself to hard so i would say twenty press ups and twenty push ups in the morning and do the same at night if you stick at it you will notice a difference. when that gets easier do thirty, then when you get a bit older get yourself a weights bench. Good luck young man!

setups and pushups mostly work fine :)
running gest rid of the greese and gives you more endurance
make sure if you do setups to ly on something soft
but not your bed (to soft :) )
more like a blanket

for pushups keep your feet together and your hands sholderwide apart
keep your body alined (dont put your bottom up)
if its to hard try starting with pushups with your knees on the ground instead of your feet :)
get tough :)

You should become strong mentally, that will serve you better than any physical strength now and definitely in the future. Put your nose to the books, study hard, get good grades and eventually you will find yourself in an awesome college with tons of wonderful opportunities. For your physical well being though, you should definitely join a martial arts class. Worried about bullies? Be like the karate kid! Wax on, wax off!

Why would we report you? Anyways....
Well, you're only 12, and your body is still growing. DO NOT lift weights at your age. It'll effect your growth. I don't think you want to be 5"3 your whole life. Wait until you're maybe 16 or 17 to start that. I started at 14 because I hit puberty at 9 (It's a family thing with the men and women in our family).
All I can suggest is eating a lot of protein like steak, potatoes, grilled chicken, fish, pork. And not crappy meat like McDonalds or Taco Bell. Also eat a lot of fiber and vegtables, drink orange juicy, eat bananas. That kind of stuff. Drink a LOT of water.
As far as workouts...just do sports you boys do at your age. I know basketball has been growing in popularity. Try tennis for disipline and it works out your arms and legs. Also (American) football and regular football are great.
Get about 8-10 hours of sleep.

Drink milk!

I hope this helps, sonny!

Start of doing about 20 pushups and situps everday. And as it becomes easy increase the number of pushups. And make sure you eat foods with proteins like meat, egg white, fish, milk. So it will help u build muscle, then u will start to get stronger, and you will also feel stronger.

good luck

Interestingly enough, I am the mom of a 10 year old boy who just started to work out with me recently. He is on the school basketball team, and wants to become faster and stronger. being the responsible parent, I researched the topic of resistance exercises and consulted professionals as well as his pediatrician after having him go through a physical.

These days, the trend is that very low weight, high rep resistance exercises using free weights (with adult supervision of course) can cantribute to an enhanced performance level and strenghth. It also will assist in getting the child accustomed to proper form and techniques with the weights so that they can be that much farther ahead of the game when they have fully physically matured and can persue a heavier, more rigorous workout plan.

I do not want to recommend a training program for you since I don't know you and that would be risky. I suggest that you express your desire for strengh training to your parents and ask them for guidance in this area. Here is an excerpt to a link on this very topic:

"According to both the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), prepubescent children can safely engage in resistance training, with certain limitations"

Best of luck!

You could try www.netfit.co.uk you will find workouts and nutrition advice there. A healthy diet and reasonable amount of exercise will help but don't overdo it or change your diet drastically as you are in need of a good balanced diet as you are still growing.

If you want to walk and talk tough - go ahead, but be careful not to overdo it. That will make you look like a wannabe and nobody respects a wannabe.

Be Gentle in the inside, yet strong in the outside. Make sure if a girl is hurt, you help out. You dont have to be a jerk to be tough.

Don't be a bully. No one likes bullies.

Being tough could result to being single. Unless you don't need a girlfriend, be not afraid to do so.

Here's a website with the info you want.

Good Luck!

K, Ben, your twelve and your muscles arent going to be ready for heavy wieght lifting and things of that nature. If you want to start to develope muscle tone, start with pushups and pullups. If you sign up for a gym membership at 24 hour fitness they will give you a free personal trainer and they will know what the right excersize plan for you is.
Good luck!

Dude, I know what you are thinking. But when you are twelve it is important to not worry. Make sure that you get out for a bike ride or to play with the neighborhood kids every day, kk? You'll be fine! Even if kids are teasing you at school, or you feel u need to lose weight, just focus on being a kid, and staying active! Good luck! Hope I helped!

Etc:
I run. I have since I was 12. It is fun and even better with an IPod bursting in your ears!
I do crunches while watching t.v. and have since I was 12.
I do pushups, and have since I was twelve.
These are not hard after a while... so give it a try!

Hi!!
Don't want to sound like a mom, but....Why do you want to be tough in the first place?
I feel something else more important than just wanting to be fit is going on with you, and let me be the first to say, I feel your frustrations. But, getting "tough" physically won't solve any issues until you get "tough" emotionally and spiritually.
If bullying is the problem (and bulies aren't just at school, they can even be right in your own living room!!), then you have to first summon the courage to get tough emotionally and confront them face to face. Bullies are only skin thick. Underneath they are actually weaker in mind and spirit than you are, and their strength comes from tearing down the defenses and self-esteem of those around them because they don't like themselves, either. By hurting and making fun of others, it makes them feel better, bigger about themselves. If you stand up to them and show them you aren't affected by their attacks, they will eventullay tire of the game and leave you be. And, if it's a problem that you feel actually physically threatened or in danger, please.... PLEASE!!! go to someone you trust such as a parent, teacher, church member or anyone of authority and report the problems you are having so that they can take action. And the law is there to protect you at school, home, church or whatever. You just have to have the courage and faith to speak up.
NOW......If you are truly just looking to get "fit"..Turn of the tube, the 'puter, the pod, the game, get off your booty and WALK!!!
Walk to school, the store, out in your yard, the dog, up the hill, down the hill.....Wherever!!!!!!! It's cheap, easy to do, requires no special skills and darn near anyone can do it!!! But check with your parent/guardian and doctor FIRST.
And eat healthy whenever you can.
*Limit sweets to once a week as a treat for doing a great job getting in shape.
*Lots of fruits and veggies/ natural juices - 5 servings daily.
*Light meats (chicken, fish, turkey, ).
*Drink water instead of sodas/sweetened drinks.
* Whole grain/natural breads, cereals..and not sugared up!!
* Very little fats/oils (very limited fast food visits!).
Just remember to think first, read labels and make the right choices before it goes in your mouth!!
And best of luck and heartfelt love!! Remember... You are You... So Very Special that God Only made ONE of You!!!!! So, Smile and take good care of yourself!! ;)

Tough doesn't JUST have to do with working out, lifting weights and/or jogging. It's also a MENTAL thing too!

I've seen guys that are physically built but are "weak" in terms of dealing with others. Whereas I've seen those that are "weaklings" come off "tough" as they come off with a dose of confidence.

I do agree with the other posters...you are still growing so just the basic situps, push ups, pull ups are what you need. But coming off with confidence....now THAT is deep down what makes you tough!

At your age you should be close to a pretty major growth spurt. This is an excellent time to add muscles through endurance training and weight training.

Also you should consider some type of physical activity that builds strength, like a martial art.

Check out Krav Maga: http://www.kravmaga.com/video.asp

Others have made a really good point about "tough". That is a state of mind and has very little if nothing to do with physical strength. It has more to do with confidence and self awareness. That is something a martial art can help with.

I would say that it is important to be tough pyschologicaly and mentally before doing anything. Some times yoga or ti chi is a good place to start it can teach patience and dicipline which are essential to any routine that you may start.

working on your basics.. running a mile a day and increasing it gradually.... 50 situps... 50 push ups... and if you have a bar someplace try pullups... but diet has a lot to do with it.. your body is unable to create muscle mass if you don't have enough protein! sooo eat lots of good healthy foods!

Lots of running, make sure you drink water too. Keep eating healthy. 25 sit-ups and 25 push-up as soon as you get up in the morning and right before you go to bed at night. make sure you stretch before you run and after as well.

First make sure you eat the right balance of fruit and veg...second, join something like a judo class, after school, whatever...there you will meet dedicated people, some your own age... and maybe end up making new friends and going to gym together or other form of fitness training.

Hope you're aiming to get "tough" for the right reasons..? you aint bein bullied are you? 12/13 is around the age when some youngsters feel inadequate in tough situ's.... and judging by the fact that we have just started a new school term it's most likely......best to walk away rather than play the game... inform your tutor and headteacher....its not "grassing" its taking the sensible approach and you could save others from the same confrontations.

Basic sit-ups, pushups and pull-ups are all good strengtheners...mundane too...so you'd best get some decent tunes to workout to... (I think I covered most things)

Good luck dude, catch you on the upside.
