I don't mean to be rude... but..?
I don't get it. Many fast food places are getting sued from overweight people who claim that the fast food joints made them fat... Umm, those people didn't HAVE to eat the food! And about junk food, too! What is going on?? If food is unhealthy for you, you're gaining weight from it, and there is a ton of trans fat in it, STOP eating it! They're even thinking about passing a law that bans trans fat and makes it so they have to put the amount of calories on the menu next to the food... I don't mean to be rude, but how lazy are these people!?

I just don't get it! Can you help me out!?
Share and Enjoy!

I only wish I understood myself. People are "lawsuit happy". What I also don't understand is why overweight people park so close to the store and then drive around in those carts inside. Exercise is good...I hate those carts. If I see someone near my age in one it is just irritating. When will someone sue the grocery because , "the carts made me inactive"? grr..lol

I don't think it's rude you're making a valid point.
A co-worker of mine brought this up at work last week. I don't think such claims should be accepted by the court it's not the same as smokers who became sick or died from smoking cigarettes which are filled w/ harmful substances. These people just need to stop eating fast food when they notice it causes wt. gain. I had to stop eating fast food myself because it's fattening & full of salt and there's not much variety to it.
If these people love fast food so much they have to learn to understand not to eat it every day or even every week. make it a once in a while type of purchase but they don't want to take responsibility for their health & that's one reason why they blame fast food restaurants instead of taking control of their health.

Well you have to truly understand how people think. If really like or love some sort of food, like a Big Mac or french fries, sometimes you can't help yourself. It's like getting whispered in your ear - it's okay, and it's cheaper than other foods too. What these fast food companies do is take advantage of that, so to say, as to make the whispering more like a command that they have to follow. You might not think this way, and to be honest I don't think most people do, but those that do just, well, do.

Also, having the calories more accessible will actually help. They aren't lazy because they don't count every single calorie they take in. I mean, I don't do that, and I'm at a fairly healthy weight of 128 lbs...

Peace to you,
Those who have lost weight claim that its depression that starts their obesity. May Allah SWT grant them peace and wisdom so they can find balance.
There is allot of people that have no time to make food like the old days. So that is why they make so much processed food and so many buy them.

I remember watching a show about people in horse and buggy and they don't use Internet or electrical means. When people of modern societies go there, they ask themselves the same question. Isn't this better here, than back in the concrete jungles of today?

I think the lawsuits are generally ridiculous, as adults are capable of choosing what to put in their bodies.

The only way I could kind of support such lawsuits would be if they dealt with how several of these chains market themselves. Certain fast food chains HEAVILY market to young children who are not capable of making wise food choices. Parents will buy the food b/c 1) it'll get the kids to stop bugging them and 2) it's cheaper then taking the kids to a real restaurant and 3) more convenient than cooking. Then the kids grow up thinking that super-sized fries are part of a "normal" diet. A recent study even indicated that kids consistently believed anything in McDonald's packaging tasted better than its unlabeled identical counterpart.

Obviously, in this scenario it's the parents' responsibility to be PARENTS and take care of their kids, but it might be a teeny bit easier if Joe Camel--err, Ronald McDonald--and a bunch of cool toys weren't luring the kids.

You are very correct. Food is a choice and the government should stay out of it and people need to take personal responsibility for their actions. The courts should not be involved.

well trans fats don't really have a place in food anywere, wheather it be fast food or not so when i hear that they are thinking of banning them i say it's about time. as far as posting nutrition facts in fast food places i think it's a great idea. don't people deserve to know what thier eating?

I know, right? There's this thing called personal responsibility and many MANY Americans seem to lack it these days.

It's such a double standard. You hear people complain every day about how the government shouldn't control this and businesses shouldn't control that, but yet when they feel as though they have been mislead or betrayed (through their own stupidity!), they want to hold the government or those businesses repsonsible for what happened. They cannot have it both ways.

There are tons of healthier alternatives to fast food and junk food. There's no excuse for their laziness.

The lawsuits filed, by overweight customers, of fast food joints, are frivolous and must be thrown out of court.

The overweight sue-happy people should spend less time in courts, and more time on the fields.(running)

Rude?? You?? they are the rude ones. lol Hey, if the court system will allow them to win-- go for it. The whole world is becoming a little weird/rude. Just my opinion.

People just want to find something to blame besides themselves. "It's not my fault I'm fat!, I have a slow metabolism." Some people actually do have it in their genes and I can respect that, other people I can't.

Some people feel that their weight problems are someone else's fault. I don't agree with the overweight people sueing McDonalds or whatever, it's kind of like the hot coffee thing. You know it's hot and then you spill and then you sue.

People like to place blame anywhere they can, and if it makes them feel better to blame someone they will. Personally I would like to see the calories that I am putting in my body, I think since the US is overweight it might help us rethink things, and might make the fast food chains make better choices in food they serve.

Nowadays more people act with their gut instead of their mind...personally I hate fast food, it only leads to a sooner death. I'd rather die from choking on a carrot than a heart attack...

They're all in denial. They want to blame someOne or someThing rather than accept the responsibility of what they eat and how much of it.

I totally agree with you.. they have no right to sue fast food places because they have to be strong enough not to eat.. and that is exactly why they always lose their cases.. but i also think that fast foood and junk food is ruining our nation.. i mean its not their fault but ours.. if we could stay away from this junk then they wouldnt be in business.. then it would be so much easier for americans to be healthy. do you know how many fat people there are in america??? and at the moment i am on of them.. i ate fast food and junk until i realized what it does to us.. now i am strictly healthy and getting excercises while losing about 5 pounds a week... i know that it is my fault that i gained weight but i am going to change that.. i agree with you but that doesnt mean that fast food is good.

Many of these lawsuits are thrown out. True, this food has high amounts of fat, cholesterol and are generally very unhealthy, but people still have free will. The problem is that many don't want to blame themselves and their choices for their problems. Many people argue that restaurants like McDonald's don't display health information on the menu beside the food, however, there are many ways to get that information. For example, you can ask a manager and they are obliged to give you that information, it's available on McDonald's website and many outside companies provide this information.

I totally agree. It's just how stupid fat people with no sense of law and order think they can make money. I mean, its not like McDonald's was poisoning the food or shoving it down their throats.

Hmm.. yes you are true. I mean if people stop buying from them or going there, they lose a lot of customers. With that, they lose a lot of $$$ and eventually close down.. So it's our own faults - not theirs.. for choosing crappy foods to eat.

Well I agree with you. But the thing is they hide the fact that there are transfats in the food by using words such as Vegatable oil. Sounds innocent doesn't it? But i agree with the fast food part.

Lol I know. The fast food people must be shoving them burgers down their throats poor unfortunate greedy b******s.

I think that a better solution is to ban anyone who look overweight from fast food places :p . Oh and you have to have like an ID thing that certifies you are under a certain weight to eat there. :)

Haha sorry got carried away there. PS., im not discriminating against overweight people other than those who whinge about it and still eat crap food.

we live in a blaming society, no one take responsibility for themselves any more, if you trip on the road then you sue the council for it being faulty, not that you are a clumsy oaf!! the moment people start realising that these things are all thier own fault is when the world will become a better place

Unfortunately, in this country, we have reached such a state of denying responsibility for our actions, that we now have people who really think it makes sense to sue a restaurant if we are fat. It's so bad, that I actually read of a burglar who tried to run when caught in the act, tripped on a throw rug, and broke a leg, then sued the homeowner for injury. It is lack of personal responsibility, greed for a quick buck, tendency to shift blame, and unscrupulous lawyers who have brought things to this sorry state. What I don't understand is: how come normal, thinking people go along with this crap? How in the hell do you go about making a law, for God's Sake, about putting calorie content of entrees on a menu? Is that really what government and laws are for? I don't think so, and I don't know a rational person who thinks so, either. So who are the idiots who are cooking this stuff up (no pun intended)? So, I guess I really can't help you out because I just don't get it, either.
