How do I quit chocolate?
I eat way too much chocolate! I can eat an entire meal of it...It's so bad that I hide my habit from my husband. I'm addicted. And I'm not sure there's a support group for that.

Every time you want to eat chocolate, smack yourself. I dunno if it'll work, but it'll be pretty funny.

u don t really bhave to u know. As other people said it s just a question of moderation. But I guess that is the tricky part for you... Do you experience similar problems when it comes to any kind of other alimentation? Cause if you do then quitting the choc might just lead you to be dependant of anything else. It could be all emotional, like your parents used to comfort you with food or you took it your self growing up in order to copensate for lack of care and being neglected. If you don t see a pattern there it might also be that you don t get enough affection and you try to substitute with giving your self something sweet that makes you feel better. If any of those is the case you might experience a lot of anxiety giving up choc because it has so much emotional comfort attached to it. A psychologist could help you sort out your emotions. U could also try to study how you feel each time and see if what u might need is to cry and for someone to hold you and comfort you, don t be afraid to ask for that, people usually take pleasure in providing comfort and being needed.

If you feel that there is nothing psychological underlying your need of choc i guess it s all a question of discipline. And go for the 70 per cent cacao or dark with whole nuts. Atleast that way you dont eat empty calories but you actually get something nutricious in there. A good idea is also to make a rule never to start with chocolate. Eat it only as dessert after lucnh or dinner to minimize.

Why Quit? It's been publicized recently that chocolate is actually a beneficial Anti-Oxident! It works against depression, etc. I forget where I read it, but it actually good for you. There is sugar in it however, and the "milk Chocolate" is more fattening than the dark chocolate. I eat Reeses Peanut Butter cups as a meal sometimes. So I am addicted too. I must have chocolate every day; but I am healthy and not overweight, so whats to worry about? Enjoy your chocolate - You only live once so why deprive yourself?

No woman should ever have to give up chocolate!

My advice is to eat only really high quality chocolate. Eat it as a special treat and savor it. Skip anything in a "Hershey's" wrapper - it isn't worth the calories. Have an occasional piece of really good Godiva or Dagoba chocolate. One small piece of the good stuff is often enough to satisfy a craving that many bars of the bad stuff won't. It is fine in moderation. You don't have to give it up altogether.

Also, go for high cacao content dark chocolate. It is full of nutrients and antioxidants and actually good for you (again, in moderation). An ounce a day is fine. A dinner of just chocolate is not.

ok, ready for some hypocrisy (I could probably out-eat you when it comes to chocolate) but the best thing to do, apparently, is eat dark rich chocolate - it's better for you and you tend to eat less of it...

that being said, milk chocolate is much nicer...and white chocolate....mmmmm...*grabs bar of chocolate*

sorry - that doesn't help...!

For starters, take one small piece and eat it slowly-savor it, instead of gobbling down hoards of it.
As for support, all addictions are the same-in that they stem from the same place within-so go to a 12 step meeting to address your addictive ways.

Go for the quality, high cacao percentage chocolates. The ones with 70-90% cacao. Might take you some time to get used to the less-sweet taste, but after a while you will not understand how you ever liked milk chocolate. It's less addicting than regular chocolate (less sugar), and you can gradually start eating less. Maybe try getting hooked on something helthier, like fruit.

Start by eating totally unsweetened chocolate instead. If that did NOT work then try eating your chocolate by mixing it with a food and/or a drink you absolutely HATE. ...If even that didn't work then confess your addiction to your husband and have him have you committed to a chocolate treatment and recovery center! ;-)

do not quit it, it is very useful, very strong anti oxide substance,, u only change ur habit eat fewer and BROWN chocolate as brown chocolate can be 40% less calories than the milky one,, beside chocolate is anti depressing food (children always quit crying when they eat it)...they say

if u eat 30 Oz of chocolate u gain 3 years in ur age,,,,Recent studies have shown that Cocoa or dark chocolate has potent health benefits for people. Dark chocolate, with its high Cocoa content, is full of the flavonoids epicatechin and gallic acid, which are antioxidants that help protect blood vessels, promote cardiac health, and prevent cancer. It also has been effectively demonstrated to counteract mild hypertension. In fact, dark chocolate has more flavonoids than any other antioxidant-rich food such as red wine, green and black tea, and blueberries. There has even been a fad diet named "Chocolate diet" that emphasises eating chocolate and Cocoa powder in capsules. However, consuming milk chocolate or white chocolate, or drinking milk with dark chocolate, appears to largely negate the health benefits. Chocolate is also a calorie-rich food with a high content of saturated fat, so daily intake of chocolate also requires reducing caloric intake of other foods.

Two-thirds of the fat in chocolate comes in the forms of a saturated fat called stearic acid and a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid. However, unlike other saturated fats, stearic acid does not raise levels of LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream. A 2001 study by researchers at Penn State University found that the flavonoids in chocolate slowed the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, a process that is believed to lead to atherosclerosis.
Cocoa-based prescription drugs could potentially help treat diabetes, dementia and other diseases.

So eat less quantities of chocolate( dark one )and reduce eating other food..

Chocolate is like a drug... It also contains caffeine. Just gradually decrease it day by day until you're completely off it.

Ginger Sling
Start substituting with hard Peppermint candies. No more than six at a time...x2 daily. It will help the sugar withdrawal, and start weaning you off the Cocoa. After 1 month cut down to 4 candies twice a day, then after another 2 weeks cut down to 3 candies twice a day. From there, you are fine. That' only 120 calories extra per day and a little extra sugar for zip. The peppermints will curb your appetite too...it really works! You can also chew sugarless mint gum to help curb the cravings. Again, the mint will serve to curb your appetite.
