Join the track team at your school or just go to somewhere that has track. My friend's brother went out for track and his parents bought him a treadmill to use.

Look for one on ebay, show them the prices, volunteer some of the money, inform them of the benefits - walking in HVAC is the best.

Do you have any idea how many households have dusty, unused treadmills?
They may use this as an argument, but I see it as an opportunity to buy a cheap used one that they can just resell again when they don't want it any more.

If they dont want to buy it, i doubt that anything you say will change it sadly. but if you really want it, show them the benefits of having one, and how happy it will make you, but if all you need to lose is 5-10 pounds, i would suggest just to go jogging or running around 60-90 minutes a day for around 3 times a week.

if they don't belong to a gym, drop hints to cold weather like "Man! I was going to go for a run, but it's too cold! Dang. I wish we had a treadmill."

Have you tried telling them all the things you just told us? Try asking them if you earn half the money, if they will match the amount and buy it for you. If they don,t like that one, tell them if they buy it now that you will do chores until you work off the money. Make sure you agree on a set dollar amount on each chore before you start. If none of those work maybe you'll just have to get a job, save up and buy it yourself.

ugh....persuading parents can be difficult , but its not impossible. First, tell them that a treadmill could not only get you in shape, but them too. You could also say that since your neighborhood is unsafe, it would be nice for you, and them, to run in the comfort of your own house, too. Treadmills are a nice thing to have, and well-worth the price. Best of luck, and happy persuading!

First of all you need to make them realize that you are serious about what you want. Show effort in excersise because I'm sure they are thinking that you will have it and then not use it. Then when they see youre effort they might buy you one. If not then work for it honey and maybe they can help you get it.

You have to demand they jog around the block with you, then.
beg, grovel & make a nuisance of your self, until one or both parents accompany you.
how many times do you think they'll jog with you & in a rough neighbourhood it's better to be safe than sorry.
i'm guessing they'll manage it once then it will be too much like hard work & a treadmill will be landing in you bedroom, pronto.
in the meantime but while their not around, try skipping.
it's a good cardiovascular work-out to tide you over.

could be matter of money or space. they are rather large. anyways, try sit ups, push ups. jumping jacks. theres lots of other forms of exersize that require no extra money or space. if you are serious. comprimize, earn half the money and see if they will pay for half. but 5/10 lbs is not alot of weight. you sound still youngish, still living at parents anyways. you are growing and becoming adult. you will gain some weight over the next while. not end of the world. i would tend to work on your self esteem and not worry so much on a few pounds. if it were like 25/30 pounds over past couple months or so then i would be concerned about over eating and something else going on. but couple pounds is nothing and normal for a growing teenager

Look in the paper for people selling them. Most likely it's still like new, becuase they always end up as clothing racks.

Treadmills and other excercise machines are quite pricey. And, even so, after Christmas it may be a hard sell to get them to shell out hundreds to thousands of dollars so that you can lose 5-10 pounds (which, by the way, I'm sure they don't think you need to lose).
Also, food for thought, why do you think you need a treadmill for such a small amount of weight loss? Living at home, within your parents financial means, leads me to believe that you're young...which leads me to believe that you could probably be overthinking this weight-loss thing a little bit. Unless it's a true matter of life and health, purposely losing weight as a teen is more of an emotional issue that needs to be handled delicately, rather than a physical issue that can be solved via excercise. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Now, with that said, if you're really serious about getting a treadmill, you're going to have to present your parents with a responsible request. Right now, there is no demand for a treadmill, so they will not supply one. They do not see a need and by you simply asking them, they still will not see a need. However, if you show them you are serious by, say, coming up with half the money for a REFURBISHED model that you've researched so you have all the answers to their definite questions, they may be willing to let you WORK for it, or use it as a birthday gift, ...or ultimately just loan you the money.
I say this because, with such a pricey item, you can't just expect them to hand over the credit card. It's a give and take and their ultimate job as parents is to prepare you for life - not get you fit and trim. So, present it as a test of responsibility: i.e., if they buy you the treadmill, you will pay them back monthly, or promise to do the spring cleaning of the entire house, or something else along the line of you being responsible. Not just, "Mommy, I want one. Can I have it?" No, you cannot.
