Eating only 1 meal a day to lose weight? at 13?
I'm 13 years old and 200 lbs and i don't like it. my whole family went on a diet for a week and i had alot of energy then we stoped bc it got expensive.

So i'm going to eat 1 meal a day-which is dinner and then maybe 2 peices of toast each morning.

wat do u think?

Well it is good to think about controlling what you eat in order to get down to a healthy weight but this is not a sustainable eating plan. A 13 year old uses a lot of energy and you will be too hungry throughout the day that even if you are able to stick to your "diet" all day long you will binge at night.

Try to eat small, healthy meals throughout the day with high-fiber content foods in them. The fiber will make you full much quicker and you can stop eating without gorging yourself.

For example for breakfast you can have bran flakes, oatmeal, or fruit (but not too much fruit because it is high in sugar). Have a granola bar for a snack at 10:30 or so. I know you will probably turn your nose up at this, but salad really is the best lunch - try some tuna or beans with it to give you protein and make you feel fuller. Sensible portion size for dinner, and NO SNACKING AT NIGHT.

Also you absolutely must include exercise as part of your plan to get healthy.

You need to keep your metabolism going, eating one meal a day won't do this. Just eat small meals during the day to keep your metabolism up which will hep you burn calories. Though it seems expensive now it will be worth it in the long run for everyone to be healthy and also save on Dr.'s visits.

i think its bad...just eat 3 meals a day..but healthy meals. do some research to find out more about it, but drink a tonnn of water and excersise and dont eat any sweets at all..helps me stay in shape

The key is not how much u eat - but wat u eat. depriving yourself of food is a bad idea. when u are hungry, its ur body telling u it needs food. u wouldnt go without water when u are thirsty would you.

This is not healthy. If you want to healthily lose weight you have to eat like 5-6 small meals a day to keep your metabolism up! Also, why not walk or jog to burn more calories! If you only eat one meal a day, your body will actually hold onto the food you eat and store it as fat because your body will think you are starving (which is actually the opposite of what you want to happen).

Other ways you can lose weight is to drink more water, elliminate sodas and juices, eat more fruits and vegetables and less fatty salty and sugary foods. Good luck!

You also might want to speak with your doctor before losing weight because you are only 13.

You need to eat more not less. You should eat at least 3 meals a day and really 5 to 6 small meals would be ideal because it keeps your metabolism going. Just make sure your snacks are healthy. The goal is that you should never feel hungry throughout the day. Exercise at least 30 min. 4-5 times a week and eat healthy foods. Good luck

Don't do it. When you don't eat, your body thinks there is a famine and so everytime you do eat it stores everything as fat to make sure you have enought calories to keep you from starving. Read the following.
Here's a serious answer. I hope it helps.
I think it would help if you could have a change in your way of thinking. A more positive attitude will help you feel better and get healthy faster. Using affirmations is one way to change your mind. I have used the following affirmation with some of my clients and they did very well. ''I, (say your name), am at my perfect weight. I look and feel fantastic.'' Write that down 21 times a day for 21 days. Start telling yourself positive things about yourself like, ''I am getting better and better every day!'' or ''Everything I eat makes me thin and healthy.''
This will help. If you have negative thoughts when you write down the affirmation, write down everything that comes into your mind. Then write down the affirmation again. After a while your mind will start to agree with you.
Also, you need to eat healthy and exercise. Following is my standard answer to everyone who wants to lose weight. It's a lot of information but I'm sure it will help you. Good luck with your goal! You can do it.

*If want to get fit and/or lose weight, here's my Weight Loss Program through Body Building and Nutrition. It works! First, don't Use Diet Pills. They are bad for you. Most of them are just a scam or they are addictive. Counting calories is a pain in the neck. It will drive you nuts. But, losing weight is simple. You just have to do the right things.
*(If you are older and have not exercised in many years you should see your doctor and have a stress test done to be sure your heart is ok before starting this program. Also, walking eveyday is a good lifelong practice.)
*Fad diets sometimes work but, you can be sure that at least 25% of the weight you lose will be muscle. Then when you stop the diet you will gain back all of the weight you lost but no muscle. So, you will have 25% more fat than you did before! Fad diets just aren't worth the bother.
*Fasting or skipping meals will teach your body that famine is common in your world and your body will begin to store more fat to get you through the next period when food is not available. It's better to eat healthy foods often to teach your body that food is plentiful and that there is no need to store calories as fat. Eat a vegetablw or frui every two hours.
*Here's a simple trick that can help you lose weight without doing anything else. Drink a litre of water as soon as you wake up in the morning and then drink two more throughout the day. You'll notice a difference the first month.
*Here's another trick that works. For every pound of muscle that you add, your body will burn 3000 calories (1lb) of fat every day. That means that just by having an extra pound of muscle on your body you will burn a pound of fat every day! So, add muscle!
*This is the fastest way to add a pound of muscle. Squats and Pushups! You do them on alternate days; squats one day, pushups the next. And you do them SuperSlow style. That is, you do the easy part twice as slow as the hard part. That way you fatigue the muscles quickly. Then you rest the muscles for 48 hours which gives the body a chance to make new muscles.
*Squats should be done with a wide stance and all the way to the floor. Pushups the with palms shoulder width apart and all the way to the floor, then all the way up. Use the full range of motion of the muscle group you are trying to develop. If you are too weak to do pushups, try them with your knees on the floor or do them with your feet on the floor and your hands an the bed.
*The idea is to tire the muscles out completely so do a set of squats until you can't do another, then rest for a couple of minutes and do it again. Do that 3 times and you're done for the day. The following day, don't do squats but do pushups. Do them the same way, going down twice as slow as you come up.
*You will lose weight fast, unless you add more junk food and fat to your diet. Instead, eat at least 5 to 7 different raw vegetables and fruits every day. Cut out anything that comes in a bag, box, can, bottle or any kind of package. In other words, cut out all processed foods, soft drinks and sweets. Eat more grains and less red meat. Studies (Georgia State University, if you'd like to verify) have proven that people who eat 5-6 times a day keep their metabolism up and lose weight faster than people who eat one, two or three large meals a day. When you eat one, two or three large meals a day, it causes a spike in insulin levels, which will cause your body to convert what you eat into fat.

Eat balanced meals, and have a healthy snack every 2-3 hours. Snacking helps keep your metabolism up and your body will burn the calories you take rather than store them as fat.

Healthy snacks include:

Nuts such as almonds
fruits and veggies
oatmeal (plain or with fruit)
berries (excellent source of vitamins and antioxidants)
peanut butter
whole wheat bread and crackers
green leafy veggies (make wraps with them using a chicken or egg salad)

You're going to gain weight by doing that. You won't be getting enough nutrients and your metabolism will slow down; hence, weight gain. Eat smaller meals throughout the day, and chances are you're not eating enough of the good stuff (i.e. fruits and veggies). You need to get out there and exercise, because there is no healthy way to lose weight without exercising.

No, this is a bad idea, not only is it unhealthy, you may actually gain weight. By eating one time your body may start storing calories because it will not be sure when the next meal is coming. Try eating smaller portions and exercising, the 1 meal idea is not a good one, good luck!

Its not good to eat only one meal. It slows your metabolism, so when you go back to eating normal, you'll gain even more weight then before. Its ok to eat less, but you need to eat 4-6 SMALL meals a day. Especially dinner. Thats one of the worst meals you could choose to eat. Your metabolism slows at night anyway because your getting ready for your nights rest. Fruits and veggies are the best way to go; lots of them! Brown rice, 100% whole wheat and good proteins like chicken and beans are a great way to help you feel full. Fiber also fills you up.

When you stop eating. Your metabolism stops and you'll get fatter because your body is trying to retain the fat you have. Your body goes into what is called "famine mode" when you starve yourself. If you can manage to eat 6 to 8 small meals a day, you'd be better off. I'm talking low fat 200 cal. snacks. That would add up to 1200 to 1600 cals a day. Eat when you're hungry, but make wise choices.

breakfast is the most important meal of the day so watever u eat for breakfast should be somethin thats give lots of energy through the day. you shud eat at least 5 fruit a day so u can pack some fruit for lunch if u want .but u shouldnt limit urself to one meal a day all u have to do is get ur portions rite. nothin wrong with eatin it depends on how much u eat of it.so jus try try some portion control and try put some extra veggies on ur plate and add some fruit in the mornin. that shud help . the next important thing is exercisin maybe u can try a sport.but i kno u mite not be keen on that . but try it it mite be fun

to lose weight, you should do it in a healthy manner. you're 13 and still growing. eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and cut out alot of what is considered "junk" food. you may not be that much over weight...you didn't mention how tall you are. height is to be taken into consideration as well.

You have to eat to lose weight. If you don't eat, you are telling your body to hold on to the fat in your body. Instead plan 4-5 small meals a day, and include in one or more meals, fresh fruit, veggies, and proteins for energy to exercise and burn more than you are taking in.

At thirteen, the last thing I worried about was my body and the first thing was my grades. Don't focus too much on how you look. You need all the nutrients you can get because you're still growing. If you're really desperate to lose weight, you better see a dietitian, so at least they can advise you on what kind of foods you should eat, and what kind of foods you should avoid. Skipping meals is not healthy, especially at your age. Sometimes it can lead to more problems especially health-wise.

Take care of yourself always and remember: Don't look at beauty magazines because they will only make you feel ugly.

I think you're looking for attention and that is why you posted this question. People will then come on and say....don't be silly... that's wrong.......don't do it etc...... BUT the real reason you maybe over eating ( as I did ) is because you have other issues..... I would go and speak to your G.P. they could put you in contact with a dietitian and maybe a therapist of some sort. Good Luck and......deep down you know that eating that little will do you no good ! :) :) :)

baby girl, at 13, u r setting urself up for a lifetime addiction of eating disorders and failing health. im a recovering anoretic, and bulimic....started at 17.....and i know, that eating disorders.....they seem like an attractive way of life when u dont know what else to do. believe me though---its not worth it. i know that once u get that control or "dicipline" down, and start to loose weight---u love it so much, u want to keep doing it and doing it. u need to realize though, u are not in control, the addiction is. i was 105 at my lowest, and im 5'9". i developed osteopenia (frail bones) had to be hospitalized, and was at the point where my body was no longer able to digest any food (as a result of starving myself).please take my advise and dont go down this road. its not worth jeapordizing ur long term health and life. and please know that from expierience, the best option is to seek out a nutritionist, and get help with getting help. Also---one meal a day, will slow ur metabolism, and u may gain more weight as a result....this disease backfires, and ur so young--u need to keep ur metabolism up, in order to grow into a healty teen, and eventual adult. eat every 4 hours to sustain a healthy metabolism, small, healthy meals, and remember--seek a nutritionist, they r great..and will know what will help u in the healthiest way possible.

they say, breakfast should be where you eat most and dinner least
also, try eating 3 hrs before you go to sleep
and try cutting down what you eat in half
like for example, instead of putting butter all over toast , just put half of it, and have salad!
instead of putting mayo in stuff, put thousand islands or ketchup

Thats not going to work honey. In fact in the end you will probably end up gaining weight. Your body will go into starvation mode and conserve whatever food you put into it.

You are better off eating 5 healthy meals a day. Breakfast (very important), lunch, and dinner. Then between meals 1&2 and meals 2&3 have a light snack to tame your hunger. Drink plenty of water.

If you can afford to go to a nutritionist and get a meal set up for you. This is because you might have special health concerns and thatyoru body works differently than anyone else. For instance I learned that I have a slow metabolism so I was instructed that when I eat carbs they have to be high quality carbs like unprocessed wheat. I was also instructed to eat more protein so that I could build and maintain any muscle tone I have.

You have to find out how many carlories you need to maintain your weight and cut out 500 calories to lose about 1lb a week. But you should really go to a doctor or nutritionist to help you out. Because like I said you may have some health concerns that you need to address.

Well, once you start eating normally again you will gain all of the weight back and maybe even more. The key to weight loss is a healthy diet and to keep your metabolism going. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner with healthy snacks in between. Walk for 20-30 minutes a day for at least 3 days a week. Don't get discouraged, you'll get there. All you need is will power!

You will be malnourished. Buy or go to the library and get the book The Diet For Teenagers Only. It tells you everything you need to know. Also dieting is NOT expensive. You just buy fresh fruits and veggies and lean meat instead of junk food and boxes of processed stuff that actually cost more per serving than fresh stuff.

There are ways to lose weight without spending a lot of money...You can go to a place like Aldis or Save a lot grocery store and you actually do "save a lot"...It is not healthy to only eat one meal a day...It can actually make you eat more...If you want to lose weight try excersing(walking is free) Eat a healthy breakfast(like fruit and a piece of toast, for lunch have a healthy salad with veggies and fruit, for a snack you can munch on a handful of nuts...For dinner try not to eat after 6:30 and eat a healthy dinner...Above all just make sure you do it the healthy way...I hate to see people hurt themselves over weigh issues!

No, that's isn't healthy for you. You should eat 3 times a day. U should eat more fruits and veggies, and drink alot of water. No more junk food, no more fast foods either. You should also exercise daily. It's summer, there's plenty of differant sports you can play. Just dont stop eating. Good luck!
