It depends on the rest of your diet, but soda is a lot of empty calories and it can definitely put on weight and will hurt your teeth. Giving up soda will definitely help you lose weight but you have to make sure you aren't just substituting something else in its place.

To successfully lose weight, you must carry out
a plan to balance your caloric intake with exercise.
Ideally, dieting should be done by eating a nutritionally
balanced, low-calorie diet and increasing physical activity.

Considering that caffiene causes cellulite & sugar turns into fat if not burned off...yes. Replace it flavored water or tea. Eat fruits & go for a 30 min walk everday & you'll start to see a difference after 1wk or 2.

Yes, if you usually drink regular soda on a daily basis. If you drank about 3-4 cans of soda a day and switched to diet soda or no soda.. I think you would see a big difference. It's a huge difference. Each can of regular soda has abou 40 carbs and 170 calories.

On top of all the answers above, carbonated drinks bloat your stomach. Even limiting the amount of soda you drink per day and doubling up on water will ease the 'puffiness' and release the air in your body. Read the link below for benefits of water and the consequences/ effects of drinking other beverages.

It will help because the only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in. A can of soda has around 150 calories and is pure sugar! So if you cut out 2 cans of soda a day, you will cutting out around 300 calories. You could switch to a diet soda which has 0-10 calories per can. I drink diet mountain dew. I also like minute maid diet lemonade which has only 10 calories per can.

Try looking at the nutrition info on a can of pop. Look at calories, fat, sugar, and carbohydrates. You'll be shocked at just how horrible they are for you. Juice is almost as bad. Energy/sports drinks are a definite no-no.
If you cut these things from your diet, you will definitely notice a difference. But if the rest of your diet is also unhealthy, don't expect to see much weight loss. But whether you lose weight or not, you'll feel better for not drinking those things.

It certainly does... sugar increases appetite, so although you may not be losing anything from the soda exactly, it is decreasing your desire to eat... always a plus!
