Fatness is dependent mostly on genetics. low fat candies don't stop you from getting fat. calories do turn into fat when not burned.

definitely. The fat in food isn't really what makes you gain weight. It's the calories in the food.

yes.. and yes! Exactly right. It's something many people overlook and nothing but a mere marketing ploy. Most things labeled "fat free" are very high in carbs/sugar.
You're better off sticking to the old fashioned rule of moderation (occasional treats), excercise, water.
Also be wary of cancer causing "sugar free" foods that replace it with chemicals (proven to cause tumors in rats just not in humans as yet till then they'll keep selling it to us).... better off treating yourself occasionaly with the real deal as any "diet" needs to be a way of life not a flash in the pan solution.

Well, dear, sugar IS fat-free but it is still sugar. Too many calories will make you fat regardless of where they come from. Sugar turns into fat only when there is too much to be metabolized. So, toss out the candy, dear.

If it says it isn't calorie free it is not!!! Look for sugar/fat free candy ie. both to feel safe or safer still just don't eat it at all.

its still fattening.
its like when you buy a bag of chips and it says "0g. trans fat"
the candy may be fatfree but it still contains sugar (or splenda)
which you will still have to burn calories for.

Fat does not 'make' you fat. Anything you eat can be converted to fat if it's over your intake needs. You eat more calories (by whatever food product) than you burn off in a day, your body will store the excess as fat.
Candy is high in sugar. Sugar is metabolized very quickly so is more likely to turn straight into fat deposits if you dont burn it off straight away.
You can eat 2000 calories in nothing but apples in a day, and if you only do enough exercise to burn off 400 cals, you will gain weight.

Absolutely. Many university studies have shown that sugar, calories and carbs eventually go through a process in which they turn to fat. So many products that say low fat and such are ussually just to get your attention and are just as bad if not worse than the original from the added sugar. In all, the point is that you shouldn't just look out for grams of fat but the whole package.
Hope that answers your questoin.

Yes, because your body will only take on the sugar that it needs. If there is not enough of the fuel burned by physical activity it is stored as fat. The rest not burned will be stored in your body as fat for times when you might need food. This is the body's natural way of making sure you do not starve. The more you eat, the more is converted by chemical process into fat, and the more weight you will gain. So yes, it will have to be burned off by physical activity.

Eating too much of anything - fat free, sugar free, or calorie-laden, will make you fat.
Remember, the key to all foods is eating in moderation. Too much of any one type of food - no matter the type - can pack on those pounds.

Sugar doesn't turn into fat until the body has digested it, and used what it can for immediate energy. What is leftover gets converted into fat.
So, the label is accurate, and it is up to the consumer to understand their own body and how it uses nutrients.
So, the term, "fat-free" does not mean that the substance might not be "fattening."
Remember, big gobs of bacon is sugar-free. Does that make it a good weight loss diet?

Anything that contains calories can make you fat if you eat enough of it. Calories in versus calories out is how you either gain or lose weight.
