be guided by your mum, and lose any weight gradually, so that it stays off. You could try making fruit smoothies for all the family, they are really tasty and are a great way to get fruit into your body. You dont need a fancy machine, just a cheap hand held blender will do the trick, serve with crushed ice, so nice and cold. Perseverance, and you will actually find you will come to love fruit this way. You can do same with veg, but you would have to get some recipes from net. Roast veg is something to try, a little oil, herbs, and a mixture of veg put in oven, it is very tasty and sweet. Good luck and remember that your family love you, as you are, but good for you wanting to lose a bit of weight.go for it..

you should eat fruit and veg as nearly all your vitamins and natural sugars come from these. stay away from potatoes and starchy foods after 3.30pm as these food types take so long to digest. eat small amounts and often as this will increase your metabolism.

I don't agree with the furit answer, "you'll get used to it and start to like it" I don't like it and can't eat it. For 25 years I've eaten it doggedly to try to accustom myself to it and after 25 years of havig a swollen stomach and diarrhea, I stopped. So did the diarrhea!
Eat what you like but make sure you eat good stuff. There's nothing wrong with a Big Mac and Fries, as long as you only eat one, once a week!
Weigh what you eat, get a calorie book, reduce your calorific intake to say, 2,500 a day to start with (depends on how big you are as to what you need daily) and make sure you get a reasonable balance of carbohydrates and proteins, and, YES FATS! You DO need some fats in your diet. Exercise 30 minutes a day at least four times a week. This exercise should involve raising your heart rate to or above 120bpm and keeping it there for at least 20 mins. After finishing, your heart rate should'nt go below 120bpm for at least 5 mins minimum.
Start out slowly and don't over do it at first otherwise you'll end up harming yourself, or feeling ill and stiff and sore afterwards, which will ruin your will power.
Drink lots of water, what your body doesn't need it won't absorb. As mentioned by someone else, don't eat after say 6.00pm, and DON'T SNACK! NO BISCUITS or POTATO CHIPS between meals!
If you feel more comfortable, then divide your food up into portions and eat a small portion four or five times a day instead of two or three larger meals. Eat the largest portion-if you do this, for lunch.
It helps to go to bed hungry. To stop yourself feeling sick or giddy because of low blood sugar levels, buy some Dextrose/Glucose tablets (you can get them with added vitamins too) from your Chemist/Drugstore and when you feel tired or have the wobblies in your stomach, generally associated with hunger, then pop a Dextrose tablet or two and drink a glass of water. Resist eating four or five because they'll push your sugar level over the top and make you feel worse, however when you get used to a lower blood sugar level then taking one tablet, chewing it or sucking it, can relieve the pangs and help you cope.
During the first week you usually lose about half a stone which is really only fluid. After this you'll lose about 2 pounds a week if you're lucky and it's at this stage that most people get itchy about it and lose heart/give up. You've got to accept that the only way to lose it is to "go without" and put up with it until you have got to the size you want. If you lose it all quickly, you'll just put it all back on really easily. if you take your time, you'll have to suffer for a bit but you'll educate yourself into eating more sensibly.
Once you've started to lose a bit of weight you can then increase the exercise and even cut the calorific intake some more but it's not advisable to go below 1000 calories a day otherwise you can make yourself ill.
I'd stick between 1500 and 2000 a day and get lots of physical exercise. This doesn't mean running or weight lifting, a good brisk walk for half an hour will do, just keep it up!
Persistence is the name of the game.

There's no escaping fruit and veg so do listen to your mum and try to find fruit and veg that you do like! Be prepared to make some mental changes about what you will and won't eat. Those who make the changes lose the weight.
Drink plenty of water - 2 litres a day - and cut down on white carbohydrate foods. How about improving your diet through protein-based weight loss shakes. I recommend the Herbalife weight loss programme. Visit www.fit-four-life.com to find out how you too can succeed at losing weight.

Eat less exercise more!
Its the only way.
Its sounds harsh but the only way you can loose weight is to burn more calories than you eat.
I'm a big man and managed to get to 13 stone by following a programme called "body for life" Its very intense but if you determined it really works.

It`s not possible that anybody can dislike that amount of fruit and veg. You`ve probably been eating so much junk food that you`ve forgotten what good food tastes like. Losing weight is very simple, just eat less and exercise.

heya..i myself used to eat alot unhealthy or even if i didnt i have too much tendency to put on weight. so the first thing i did was i cut down on oil and all junk food n fizzy drinks. not that i never had them..i did..even fudge cakes coz they r my weakness but whenever u eat smthing fattening always eat smthing healthy n light for the next meal and try to do atleast a 30 mins work out either the same day or the next day n eat smthing light even the next day.
Secondly, have lots of fluids...water, milk, juices..since u dunt like fruits much..try to have fresh juices. whenever u feel hungry tho u have had proper food..have a glass of water..or u can get a squash of ur fav flavour..tht way ull get to drink water n not eat unnecesarily.....never skip ur food..coz tht ll cause u weakness and create gases in ur stomach...
The best n easy workout is dance...get songs on which u feel u can do the most dance on..put on ur headset and start...start by doing it 20 - 30 mins a day..build ur stamina first n then slowly increase...there r also cassettes of aerobics and work outs which u can get at home n follow...really helps...atleast helped me...
wtever u do or eat make sure u r still getting all ur vitamins and the necessary stuff to give u strength......
n whenever u feel u r tired or doing stuff...always look upto ur frnds who r slim...or ny tv actress tht u admire...n think bout all the attention u wud get n the nice clothes ..lol..wud hopefully work..!cheerz

I'm male, 25 years old, and 3 years ago I had enough of how I looked, I was sick of the belly that hung over the jeans, not being able to fit into decent clothes and look good, so I thought f*** this, I need to do womething about it!
I was 15 stone at the time, and I managed to get rid of 3 and a half stone in 3 months, getting me down to 11 and a half stone (although I have now put 1 stone back on, but do look better for it cos I was too skinny in the end!)
Basically, the way I did it was as follows...
Eat 2 small bowls of Special K a day, 1 for breakfast, 1 for dinner
Eat a healthy proportioned and well balanced low calorie meal for tea (i.e. Chicken breast, new potatoes, garden peas)
Got my butt to a gym and sweat til I dropped (This was a big help, and I know you can't afford it, but there are things you can do at home and out and about, like walking the dog as you mentioned)
Sometimes I would even have a bowl of Special K for my tea instead of chicken or whatever.
I just ate low calorie food, avoided bread where I could and exercised 3 times a week for about 2 hours a time, and didn't snack and pick at food! I mean literally I could be at the cinema and someone would offer me one sweet, and I refused! You really have to be strong willed!
Drink pletny of water too, it helps keep your metabolism up!
Good luck!!!

I can't believe no one has said this yet but always, always, ALWAYS eat breakfast. Try smoothies (innocent or some other all fruit brand is best) and/or take a vitamin supplement. Try to get some hand weights and tone up a bit - each lb of muscle you have burns more calories even at rest than a lb of fat. Have a treat now and then and don't give up. Good Luck!

Hi,
I'm not a fan of fruit & veg either, I like the taste but not the boredom of eating it... I've found a way to get loads of fuit and veg - Juicing!
I invested in a cheap juicer - great BUT too time comsuming as it meant chopping etc, that went in the cupboard...
Then I invested in a Jack Lalanne Lan juicer - no chopping and cheaper as you get tons more juice from your fruit and veg. (try ebay you may get one cheaper)
I love my juice on a morning and miss it when I swap for a 'treat'...
I've even started taking an extra one to work for the afternoon - stopped me snacking...
I'm on a mission to lose 3 stone and I'm slowly starting to see results. If I can up my exercise it'll start happening quicker too.
Wishing you lots of luck, I know how hard it is!!!
Saying and doing are two totally different things and for those that haven't been there you'll never understand...
Jo :)

Do you like smoothies that could be a way of getting your fruit &veg intake.
For exercise try joining a dance class they are cheaper than a gym, its good exercise and you enjoy it. Also its a nice way to meet new friends.
I have just joined a CEROC class, which is a combination of Salsa & Rock (jive). Good Fun

3 things, first of all, you are right about exercise, walk a little further and a little faster each day, and then try a bit of a run, then a little more and so on.
Next, cut out all crisps and sweets, and find something that is good that you do like. Have you tried the crispbreads with seeds on? or bran flakes with sultanas instead of coco pops or sugary cereals? Cottage cheese instead of fatty cheese, it all helps. Increasing fibre not only fills you up so you don't crave snacks, but it also takes fat with it on its way out!
Wholemeal bread instead of white sliced cotton wool gooey bread. Raw carrot, Celery and so on are great as they are crispy and take some chewing, they fill you up and are good for your teeth and gums as well as being less fattening than nuts, crisps and sugary drinks. Drink loads and loads of water, every time you fancy nibbling drink a pint of water instead!
Of course fruit and veg are great and really good for you, isn't there anything you can eat in the salads line? A jacket potato fills you up for hours - much better than mash with milk and butter, just think through fibry fillers instead of processed stuff. If you really want it, you can do it learn to try different things until you find you can eat fruit and veg. Give yourself a goal of a couple of pounds a week to lose and treat yourself to something you like but have done without when you make it! Best of luck, I am trying hard to lose at least 3 stone myself, so all the best with your new look! You can do it, go for it!

Firstly don't try faddy diets as they don't work - trust me I have been there. The special k drop a jean size diet works if you stick to it and don't eat unhealthy at the end. What i find also works is the weightwatchers plan. I joined this time last year and in six months i lost 2 stone - I then gave it up for the summer months and went back this week to discover all i had put back on again in 6 months was 2lbs (also noting that christmas has just passed.) I was like you too in that I didn't like most fruit and veg but I tried them in small portions and after a while I realised that I actually did like most of it.
Also if you can walk a lot or even visit your local swimming pool regularly that will also help.
Losing weight is all about training your mind to and also your body to accept healthier alternatives and also to exercise more. I found that the first few weeks were hard going but once you get into it then you're flying. Whatever you do don't skip meals or stop eating as this will slow your metabolism way down and you will end up gaining weight which will dampen your spirits. Also don't weigh yourself everyday as your weight will fluctuate and this may also dampen your spirit. Pick one day a week to weight yourself and set yourself realistic goals.
Also don't forget to treat yourself every now and then too for "being good".
I hope you get on well and found my advice encouraging xx

I've got the same problem in that I need to lose weight and I was looking at fitness DVD's. I noticed that Rebecca Wheatley (used to be in casaulty) has went from 24 stone to 12 stone and this DVD shows you how. its a combination of exercise that isn't too strenuous and a eating plan. i have yet to start this dvd but i did watch it yesterday for a preview and it looks a really good dvd workout for all shapes and sizes and beginners to advanced exercisers.

It may sound weird but EAT MORE! Just change what you're eating. As well as regular exercise if you eat small portions of healthier food more often in the day i.e 6 portions a day (fruit, veg, any healthy snacks), drink lots of water, cut down on carbs and red meat (dont completely cut it out) it increases you metabolism and you burn off calories faster. Also you dont get left feeling hungry and vulnerable to caving in to naughty food! Though try not to eat after about 6-7pm depending on when you usually sleep. If you still feel peckish after this time drink lots of water to fill yourself up. Doing at least half an hour of exercise at least 3 times a week would also be really good and help to tone up your muscles as well as lose unwanted weight.
PS If you really hate fruit and veg (trust me there are thousands of things to try so dont give up just yet!!) there are so many alternatives out there now.
I really hope this helps you, I lost 5 stone in 10 months by doing this. Be patient, you will not see instant results, it takes time but it'll be so worth it.

Either eat the fruit and veg and you'll get used to it (seriously you will get used to it and start to like it) or don't eat it and go hungry. You'll lose weight both ways.
It's not easy and you need will power. Start with easy fruit and veg- apples, pears, bananas, oranges, carrots and peas, boiled potatoes. Eat lots of fibre- switch from white bread to brown, eat whole grain cereal such as alpen, or porridge or brown toast and marmite. Drink plenty of water and keep walking the dog!
Good luck

I know exactly how you feel. I'm just starting out on a diet myself. And I'm such a fussy eater. Which is why it's been hard for me to diet and stick to it before. The only vegetables I like are Cauliflower and Parsnips, and I eat no other fruit. I cannot stand the texture of these foods in my mouth. And people who like these foods, just do not understand. They tell you to quit being such a baby, and it sometimes makes me consious of eating infront of other people.
But I mean... if you've tried all fruits and vegetables and cannot find anything you like, then there's no alot you can do about it. You can't force the food down your throat. You've gotta think... right, I'm going to find some things that are healthy, which I do like... and eat them in moderation. That's the big key.
I'm definately one, for eating until I feel sick, which is something I've gotta stop. You need to eat enough and leave a little space, so that you're not completely full.
Also... try drinking a glass of water before your meals, which should make you eat less too.
And if you don't like water (cause I HATE water too) try adding a tiny bit of No added sugar squash. I have like less then a CM of blackcurrant, just so it takes away the plainess of water)
I don't know if you drink fizzy drinks. But you should definately try to cut them out. Treat yourself on a night out. But stopping these will definately help.
At the moment, my game plan is:
I wrote down my size measurements (Bust, Waist, Hips, Thigh, Leg and arms), which I plan to do every week. So hopefully I'll see an improvement, which will then boost me further. I on't tend to trust scales very much. I can be one weight on one set, and a totally different weight on another.
I'm cutting out all crappy food (crisps, chocolate, sweets). I buy the Special K cereal bars. They have 90 calories per bar. And really do fill you up. I have subsituted these for breakie/lunch sometimes. Although. I'm going to try to just use them as snacks, if I ever have a hunger span.
And although I do hate it. Have started to exercise. Just simple exercise to start with (stretching, sit-ups, slow jogging, making sure to move each muscle about). Because just by changing my eating, and starting to be active, I know I will lose weight, and then it will become easier for me to get more hardcore. And during the summer I plan to go out Bike riding (which I done last year, and lost weight doing, without dieting)
Like somebody has said above. You've gotta have the will power. Everybody wants to lose weight. But it's so difficult. And those who say it isn't hard, are just liars. It's so easy to put the weight on and not think about how hard it's going to be to get it off.
But you've got to be realistic. Don't cut out everything that you love. Just... use it as a treat if you reach a target weight.
Unless you're planning on being on a diet for the rest of your life and never touch fatty foods again, don't be hard on yourself.
I don't plan to never eat crisps, chocolate, chips etc again. Because if and when I eventually reach a weight I'm comfortable with, I don't want to have to avoid these foods for the rest of my life. But I will just not eat them as often. And hopefully stick to an exercise plan. (I'm thinking 3 times a week)
Keep up with the dog walking. And like again, somebody said above: Try going for a longer walk for a couple weeks, then make it longer, and maybe even at a jogging pace, or power walk!
I've got four dogs myself. They go to work with my brother, and go for a really decent run 3 times a day, so me walking them would be pointless, plus... I don't fancy going on 4 different walks with each dog, especially in the rain, lol.
I have rambled on a bit, I hope it's kind of helped you out slightly. Sorry if it hasn't.
Best of luck x x x
