Wondering if this is normal...?
|
A couple of nights recently I've had around four glasses of orange juice over the course of a few hours. I've noticed that after about an hour I begin to get a headache and feel warm and start to perspire a little bit. I was wondering if this could be a normal reaction to the sugar content, or if it might be a sign of something like diabetes. It runs in my family. I'm in my mid-twenties, and most diabetics in my family were diagnosed later, but it is something that I've been considering. Does anyone know? Thanks.

hey dear the experience u shared is not very much the reaction of diabitese patients to the sugar
the abnormal feeling these patients go through is due to the weakness
ur reaction to this juice is very much a unpredictable
but according to me:
1. the juice u drank was not fresh
2. the sourness of juice was a lot
3. sum unhygenic substance got into it
u shud consult a doc and have a normal checkup

Use one of your family members glucose meters. A little prick of the finger and you get your reading in 5 seconds. Take a few readings one day and see what is going on.

I am not a doctor. I know orange juice contains Potassium, large quantities of it can cause faster heart beats, these in turn might have caused you the headache and sweating. Like you said you have family history of diabetes, so go see a doctor and check it out.

Normally shakes and sweats are associated with low sugar not high. A diabetic reaction to to much blood sugar would be vomiting an maybe a headache.

All the above may be what's happening to you. OJ has lots of sugar; a natural relief of low glucose. For a diabetic, drinking four glasses of OJ that's like having candy. It's a sugar rush and not good for a diabetic. Since you say it runs in the family, you might be seeing the first signs of Type 2 Diabetes. If I were you, (having experiences that change), I would be taking my blood glucose reading every three months or so, hoping to find it in the normal range. Then once it jumps out of normal, go to a doctor, as a follow-up. Better safe and ahead of this disease. While diabetes is definitely not a nice disease, people with it do live happy lives - with a little bit of inconvenience. It happened that way to my wife - runs in her family. So, after I started tracking my glucose levels when I turned Type 2, we started checking her level every once in a while. When it too, jumped one morning, she went to her doctor as a follow-up. Sure enough, she too started down my path 10 years after I did. Again, play it safe: get a checkup, start testing every so often and definitely get a head start on this and stay a head of it.

To this specific question: doubtful.
More than likely it was a vitamin C rush.
The fructose in OJ is the easiest to assimilate in the body.
If you drank 4 glasses in an hour I might say yes.
You are getting you sugar levels checked regularly aren't you?
