He needs to go. Diabetics are at an increased risk of infection... That may be what he has. He needs to get on antibiotics ASAP. A child recently died from an infected tooth. Don't let it go. It could literally kill him if it goes for too long. Take care of it now while he isn't in danger of losing his life...even if you have to carry him there.

SAVE HIS LEG. If the infection is spread to the bone, it will be difficult to cure. Admit him in the hospital and got his wound dressed properly. Give insulin in consultation with your doctor till his wound is healed.

Unfortunately, some people who are diabetic don't take care of themselves properly. In my experience, this attitude is especially prevalent in older people. Some don't even take their medication regularly as they should. Diabetics are subject to healing problems in their extremities. Usually, this affects the feet, but for older people, it could be in any appendage. When injured, the wound is slow to heal and could lead to serious problems, even requiring amputation, if left unattended. Your father needs to go to the doctor to make sure the problem is not serious and to get treatment if it is.

He doesn't want to see the doctor? Then he better say good-bye to his leg. Because that's what's going to happen if he doesn't get it treated. Amputation.
This is diabetes 101. He KNOWS he has to see the doctor. Diabetics do NOT heal the way someone else would.

Diabetics need to be cautions when it comes to their feet and diligent with foot care. He really should have it examined by a doctor. It may just be a bad bruise, or a hematoma (fancy name for bad bruise which causes a clot in the vein which breaks up), or it could truly be serious. You should do your best to convince him to get it checked out, if only for peace of mind.
