My sister just went to the doctor, and they told her that her red cells were being attacked and she needed to have more tests done. They said it was either diabetes or some disease like cancer or something. Is this the case?
Additional Details
Yeah, they want her to undergo more tests, but she said the doctor said, "im going to be really honest with you....it could be three things: diabetes, cancer, or some other disease". I dont really know, they gave her steroids for her symptoms, but told her she needs to take some tests to see what it is.

no the doctor explained it to me differently. i dont think wat u r describing is diabetes.

n ways all i can remember is the symptoms not wat the doc said. these r some symptoms:
feeling really thirsty, , feeling really tired and constantly urinating

ne ways im not sure if ur sis does have it but i dont think that diabetes has ne thing to do with cells attacking each other. it more like a virus attacking the Pancrease cells. (thats with juvenile or type 1 diabetes ne way)

IF you sister's doctor had that kind of conversation then I am not sure what the doctor was trying to communicate. A blood test would clear up a lot. I had blood test that indicated I might have cancer somewhere and spent a year and several tests only to find I had unusual blood. They were also tracking very high iron. Two years later I developed diabetes.

Diabetes can be determined quickly in a blood test, HbA1C, which will tell how your friend has been for the last 90 days.

Best Wishes.

I doubt the doctor told her that. It could have been someone else at the doctors office. No doctor tells anyone they might have cancer. If they want her to undergo more tests it could be cancer but that would not be similar to diabetes. She might have diabetes but it wouldn't be her white blood cells attacking her red cells. it would be the white blood cells attacking the beta cells in her pancreas(Type 1) This would not require more test to say yes or no to diabetes.
I think either she got the information from someone else, or she misunderstood the doctor, or you misunderstood her.

this does not sound like diabetes. You should get more info from your sister. If her blood cells were "under attack" I think the doc's would given her a bit more info.

just my opinion.

This sounds a lot like leukemia. It is not diabetes. If they think she is diabetic most doctors will not give steriods unless it is absolutley necessary because they raise the blood sugar. I'm glad they are going to do more tests.
