yes it can. It can also cause a lot of other problems like kidney failure. My grandma is a diabetic. She's almost blind. She's on dialysis for the rest of her life. Diabetes and arthritis caused the bones in her feet to break down--to where it's like having 15 broken bones in each foot and has to wear special prosthetic boots.

Blindness can be one of the complications caused by diabetes if you do not take care of your blood glucose levels. Check the www.diabetes.org site for more information.

In the United States, diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of vision loss in people ages 20 to 74. For people with diabetes, the risk of blindness is more than 3 in 100,000 people.
Over time, high blood sugar levels from diabetes lead to damage of the retina, the layer on the back of the eye that captures images and sends them as nerve signals to the brain. Whether diabetic retinopathy develops depends in part on how high blood sugar levels have been and how long they have been above a safe range.

Diabetes can cause blindness, kidney failure, Foot amputation, Erectal disfunction, even heart deases. Be careful, people take diabetes very lightly. I can tell you that I've seen patients getting cured by doing proper Yoga and exercises regularly. Be on medicines and do check ups time to time but do some exercises and stop having oil and sugar and meat. Lean food helps a lot.

Yes. Diabetes is a very serious disease, however with good management it is very controllable. The problem is, you have to commit to a total lifestyle change and learn everything you can to do such mananging. Though very overwhelming, once you get a routine and most importantly a good doctor, it all becomes second nature.

When you are diabetic, your blood is alot thicker than someone without diabetes. Therefore, all the little veins and arteries in your eyes, fingertips, etc, don't receive blood as good as a non-diabetic person.

Diabetes can cause blindness and other diseases.

But diabetes can be cures.

Diabetes

All diabetics have a common fluke parasite, Eurytrema pancreaticum, the pancreatic fluke of cattle, in their own pancreas. It seems likely that we get it from cattle, repeatedly, by eating their meat or dairy products in a raw state. It is not hard to kill with a zapper but because of its infective stages in our food supply we can immediately be reinfected.

Eurytrema will not settle and multiply in our pancreas without the presence of wood alcohol (methanol). Methanol pollution pervades our food supply -- it is found in processed food including bottled water, artificial sweetener, soda pop, baby formula and powdered drinks of all kinds including health food varieties. I presume wood alcohol is used to wash equipment used in manufacturing. If your child has diabetes, use nothing out of a can, package or bottle except regular milk, and no processed foods.

Yes if left untreated. If your a diabetic you don't have to go blind. My mom was one all her life and at the age of 83 she started to were glasses but I think it was not caused by the diabetes. So watch what you eat and take your meds. Good luck

Yes. If left unchecked, diabetes can cause neuropathy in the extremeties and blindness as well. Diabetes is an insidious disease because you normally don't feel bad and with the exception of increased thirst there are few symptoms. If your blood sugar gets fairly high you might get drowsy.

Yes, unfortunately it is. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in people between 25 – 74. Diabetic retinopathy is a disease affecting the blood vessels in the retina (the back layer of the eye). Uncontrolled blood glucose levels can cause damage to small blood vessels in the eyes, kidneys and nerves. Damage to larger blood vessels causes poor circulation and can eventually result in a heart attack or stroke. The combination of nerve damage and poor circulation can place the feet and lower legs at risk of amputation. But the good news is that effective control of your blood glucose levels can go a long way towards preventing this
