It's supposed to straighten out your teeth. However, if you're teeth varies in sizes, it will still look that way after you've removed your braces.

everyone always thinks its just to straighten your teeth, which is NOT true. my teeth are straight enough to not need braces, but i have them anyway. why? because i have a deeep overbite. my bottom teeth and top teeth have grown inward. so when i bite food off with my front the top doesnt hit the top of my bottom, it hits more of the front, which is visibly wearing them down. my jaw also gets really sore from chewing because i have to move it back inorder for my back teeth to touch. my braces are pushing my teeth forward, which will correct my overbite.

My mum has big teeth in a big jaw = distinguished. My Dad has small teeth in a small jaw = neat. I have big teeth in a small jaw = crowded! All the teeth were at different angles and growing over each-other, which didn't look nice and made them fairly impossible to clean.
I had four teeth removed and a retainer on the top for one year with this big external brace at night to force all my teeth back. Then I had "train-tracks" for a year to straighten them out, then back to retainers to keep them in place. Everytime they were adjusted it hurt very much, and I ended up living off yoghurt for days afterwards!
But it was worth it in the end to get straight teeth which I can keep clean. And for two years' embarassment, and a few dozen days of discomfort, I get a lifetime of people commenting what nice teeth I have.
So, if you're fed up of braces, or trying to decide if it's worth it, speak to your dentist about what the consequences would be of going without. I would recommend to get plenty of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, and lots of yoghurt, and get with the braces!

Everyone gets them for different reasons. For instance, my sister had really crooked teeth that needed to be straightened. I had to wear them because I had a really bad overbite and had spacing in between my teeth.

The very first reason is to straighten your teeth so that maintaining oral hygiene becomes less cumbersome. The problems (or disease) we tend to invite ourselves by inadvertantly adopting abusive eating habits. However, the selection of the type of braces depends on the personal consideration. Those (young adults or working) who do not have much of crookedness or crowding of teeth and also have money and esthetics in mind, opt for the Invisalign.

Dental braces (also known as orthodontic braces or brackets) are a fixed appliance used in orthodontics to correct alignment of teeth and their position with regard to bite. Braces are often used to correct malocclusions such as underbites, overbites, cross bites and open bites, or crooked teeth, or goofy teeth and various other flaws of teeth and jaws, whether cosmetic or structural. They can be used on either upper or lower sets of teeth, or both, depending on the problem they are being used to treat. Orthodontic braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to widen the palate or jaws, create spaces between teeth, or otherwise shape the teeth and jaws. Most orthodontic patients are children or teenagers; however, more and more adults are seeking out orthodontic treatment.
