I had an abscess and the best thing was oil of cloves. It stings like hell when you first put it on, but it does help a lot. Also, if you can stand the taste, (and the pain) gargle with soluble Paracetamol. Good luck. (",)

A combination of Jack Daniels and Vicodin, always worked for me until I could see the dentist. If you do not have any Vicodin increase the dose of Jack Daniels.

Couldn't you see an emergency dentist, to sort things out temporarily? You can take Ibuprofen and Paracetamol together...that is Ibuprofen first then Paracetamol after two hours then two hours afer that Ibuprofen again. You can rinse your mouth with warm salt water (eeeuugh!) and make sure that your teeth are really clean (brush twice a day and floss daily) I would also hold a hot water bottle covered in a towel against the cheek of the side where the pain is. Without knowing whats wrong it's difficult to know what else to suggest. If it is an infection causing the pain, then the only thing that will get rid of it is antibiotics.
Hope it gets better soon :)
People may advise you to try Clove oil and or Aspirin directly on tooth. By all means try these if you are desperate....but they can burn your gums. (I have seen this when I worked with a dentist)

clove oil or bonjela , it might stop if you brush your teeth in freezing col water and then drink a really hot cup of tea or you oculd just punch your self in the jaw , gurgle salt water aswell the salt helps to dissovle the infection however do not swallow it

There are things you can buy at the store like Orajel which will help. You can also try applying ice packs to that side of your face. And the dental schools will recommend that you pinch your hand between the thumb and first finger on the side of the body where the bad tooth is. Pinch and rotate and the acupressure point will really help.

Neurofen is the best thing you can have for toothache. Depending on if the pain is from the root or the tooth itself, if its the tooth, although it tastes awful place an anadin on the tooth until it slowly disolves, it slowly deadens the gum around the tooth. Keep taking neurofen every few hours.
Also, if you are in pain NO dentist can refuse to see you as an emergency patient. Just go to your dentist in the morning and sit and wait, they cant refuse.

Clove oil- or if you have none then just cloves- bite onto them!
Rum- it numbs the pain!
A hot compress or poultis held onto your cheek may also help. Make it with oats, herbs and hot water wrapped in muslin or some other kind of pourous cloth, sounds strange but is very good for pain and also for drawing out toxins)
If it's really bad go to the emergency dentist at the hospital.

Is this your regular dentist? I hope not since he should see you right away. If you are looking for one, call the dental society for a referral and explain you need an appointment soon.

i would change your dentist my friend, its in humane to make someone suffer for that amount of time.
In glasgow we have a dental hospital for emergencies and you go up early in the morning and they sort it out normall for free or sometimes a very small charge.
check your local area for the same facility.
Paracetamol is vg for toothache and avoid sugary treats and cold drinks or food as they irritate the nerve,
if the pain becomes bad dip a cotton bud into some whiskey and press it onto the sore area, it takes the pain away almost instantly..
good luck

can u not get an emergency appointment, or ask them to call u if there is a cancellation ? failing that, try taking Ibuprofen tablets, as these are anti inflammatory pain killers, and are the most effective at keeping the pain under control.. u can also buy something called Clove Oil in most chemists... it's a little bottle of concentrated Clove oil, and u dab it on the area that's hurting. it tastes foul, but it really does work, and has an immediate effect.

University dental schools sometimes have emergency clinics..
A pharmacist told me that you can take Tylenol at the same time with an Aspirin like product (Aspirin, Naproxen, Ibuprofen) because Tylenol is filtered thru the liver and the others are filtered thru the kidneys..But not two Aspirin products at once...or two Tylenol products at once.
