not if you have a good dentist and they properly numb you. it will hurt later but they should give you some pain medication.

just let the dentist no that you have a fear of being there and he will do everything to make you relaxed, and as far as hurting he will numb the area, it's not like the old days were they give you a shot of whiskey and pull.....maybe alot cheaper...lol

A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man, only one. When you worry about the possible upcoming pain, you are suffering far more than you need. Of course it'll be uncomfortable. Your mouth heals faster than any other part of your body. The discomfort will quickly pass and you will have wasted a lot of time over something minor. Don't go down the "what if" path.

They will probably give you something for the pain while there, but that will wear off and it will probably hurt. Usually, they prescribe some pain killers for later...if you hurt, take them.
it'll be o.k., though. i had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out and it sucked, but i'm glad they're out and not messing up my mouth!

Nope. Won't hurt if they give you nitrous oxide. It'll hurt later though when you're at home.

There is nothing to be scared of . if you go to the dentist thinking that its going to be painful then it will be just relax ab=and like 2 or 3 hours before you go to your visit take a Motrin or a Tylenol you would be OK. but before you take the medication double check with your dentist if you are having local anesthesia then you can drink something but if you are having general Anestassia then you can't eat or drink nothing 8 hours before the extraction. Hope this was help full. GOOD LUCK!!!!

It hurt more on the lower jaw than the upper.
And afterwards, OW! It ACHES. Whatever you do, don't eat anything that might pull the clotted blood out of the hole.

the novacaine shots they give you before the procedure will hurt worse than the extraction, there will be some discomfort during the procedure, and after the novocaine wears off it will be tender, but it will pass quickly, the first 2 days after are the worst. what you are going thru is nothing to be afraid of.

It will hurt later on after the painkillers wear off. The dentist will probably give you a prescription for pain relievers, but I'd ask him or her about other alternatives too so that you can ease any extra pain with out worrying about over medicating.

It won't hurt as much when they're doing it with the numbing of the area, but it's gonna be sore for a couple days afterwards.

I just had this done on Wednesday, March 1st, and I am fine now. It took approximately a week for the pain (very dull and not overbearing) to subside. I am now 100% pain-free, but the healing will take two months for the 'holes' where the teeth were. The initial pain the day of is excrutiating. I've never been in so much pain, but TRUST ME - you will be far happier when the first week is over. You'll have those teeth out and won't have to worry about it ever again.
A FEW TIPS:
+ Don't gargle with any commercial products for at least a week after.
+ You won't be able to eat anything for about a week. Expect to have to be drinking lots of liquid-meals such as shakes or smoothies. Really thouogh - I wasn't hungry for like, two days. I lost ten pounds in fact!
+ Have plenty of ice on hand. If the teeth are difficult to extract you will have some swelling in your jaw, and the ice will help with the swelling. In spite of what they may tell you - use ONLY ice. Hot towels or rags won't help.
+ Rent some movies the day before so you'll have them to watch after. Don't do anything strenuous. Relax, watch some movies and be comfortable.
+ It's important that you allow time for the holes to form blood clots, so don't spit and avoid rinsing your mouth out for the first day. Be careful when you drink anything, and don't change the gauze out as often as you can stand the taste of blood in your mouth.
That should be it! Dry socket (not allowing blood clots to form in the holes where the teeth were) is more common in women than men, so take special Care not to disslodge any blod clots that form. Using black tea bags as gauze supposedly helps these to form. Hope it goes well!

who ever said of course it will hurt needs to find a new dentist!! It will NOT hurt. But it will feel really weird because you will have a lot of pressure in your mouth. If the dentist gives you plenty of anesthetic and you are completely numb it will not hurt at all, but it will be a little annoying, yes. You can also call your dentist and tell them you are scared and they can call in a prescription for you to take one hour prior to your appointment to relax you like valuum. Also you may want to use nitrox oxide ( laughing gas) to also help relax you. It wont get you numb like some people think...but it does help take your mind off of it! Also bring a book or music so you will not hear noises because they will be working next to your ear so it can be noisy but this is also normal. Also aftercare...don't smoke or suck through a straw, this can cause dry socket and they will explain this to you as well. But most important make sure to take something for pain while your still numb that way it kicks in by the time your un numb, they may prescribe you something so fill it right away, just dont take on an empty stomach cause you will not want to puke after having an extraction done.....not to worry i have been doing this for a long time and have had my teeth pulled and most people tell me that it wasn so bad. Most of the people listing advice just had a bad experience or bad dentist.
