I know this is the last thing you really want to do, but, just tell the truth. Its far easier than all of the anxiety you are feeling over lying and then trying to remember who you told what. First though, did you ask the friend whose party you were at to check their house? Those things turn up in the weirdest places. If all hope is lost, here is the best possible solution. First, instead of worrying about more excuses, come up with a solution. Some way to keep track of it, whatever YOU come up with on your own is bound to work better than someone elses idea. My son has a reminder in his room, bathroom, etc. Nothing but a picture of braces, but it helps to remind him to brush and keep track of his things. He always used to forget to wear his rubberbands. After you brainstorm your solution, I would approach my folks and tell them, " I know that you might be angry about this, but I have lost my retainer. I have thought a lot about this problem I have of losing it, and I have decided that the best way for me to keep track of it is____." Parents get frustrated because kids make a lot of the same mistakes, and then make bad choices by trying to hide those mistakes. At least if you try something different, it shows you are doing your own problem solving and making an attempt to change your behavior, which is, after all the only way to solve an ongoing problem. Good luck!

Tell them that your dog got ahold of it.
It happens all the time.
we even tell our patients to keep retainers away from dogs.
It will work, trust me.

When you arrive at the place and see the orthodontist.
Look at her and be like..
Ahhh shooot (hold your head). I think I'll need to go back, because I forgot my retainer. I took it off because I had a Basketball game yesterday and it wasn't safe to keep the retainer on. Should I go back or is it alright if I don't have it?

Haha! That's funny!! Say that you had it in and you stuck your head out the window to feel the breeze go through your hair and it flew out, and then the car behind you guys ran it over, oh and then it went in the gutter and you saw a rat run away with it!!... Or you can just tell them the truth... I mean what is the worse that they can do?...

Instead of trying to think up a believable lie, how about telling the truth and taking responsibility for your careless attitude? The retainers cost money, obviously that doesn't mean anything to you because you've not had to pay for them - time to grow up and start acting like you deserve the privileges you have. Call your friend and ask to make arrangements to get your retainer back.

On rollercoaster/funfair ride and:
*you bit down too tight crushing it...
*It fell out on it...
It dropped while cleaning it and it was stood on.
You got really high and though it was a crab.
Your dog used it as a chew toy...
Be a man and tell the truth, then knock out the orthodontist and steal her shoes!

If you have a dog, you could say that you took it out to eat something and the dog ate it lol.I had braces for like a year and I think the retainer was more annoying than the braces.I'm pretty bad about losing stuff but my parents are pretty gullible.
Another good excuse is that you were eating and accidentally threw it away. That's pretty common.
You could even try telling the truth!lol

You need to stop making excuses and own up to it. Why did you even left the retainer at a friend's party in the first place? You're only going to make it worst by lying to your mom and the orthondist because sooner or later you'll run out of excuses and get caught.
Come clean. That's the best way out of this situation. Granted, your mom will be upset. She will have to pay for another retainer for you, OR you can own up to it and tell her that you'll pay her back for the retainer when you get a job. Good luck.

Might the retainer still be at the location where the party was? If the party was in a field or something, probably not. But if it was at a house, maybe it's still there.
The best excuse I saw among the Answers was "I wrapped it in a napkin while I was eating (at McDonalds, at Taco Bell, at school) and accidentally thew it away."
