Do you brush your tongue? A lot of people forget to brush their tongue when they brush their teeth in the morning and at night before bed.

Also if you have crypts in your tonsils, you could have a tonsil stone which is a lil stone of bacteria build up in your tonsils. There is also lil pus balls that form in the tonsils, which if it ruptures can cause bad breath.

I just had my tonsils out a week ago, and I told my family i didn't have those tonsil stones but something else -- you know when you have a tonsil stone cuz if it bursts your breath is bad and can lead to having halitosis.

Sounds like a periodontal disease. Use an Astringent Mouthwash before bed. Or the strongest Mouthwash you can find. I had the same problem once. My dentist had to perscribe a special Mouthwash for me. You may end up having to do the same. Try the Astringent Mouthwash first....Its cheaper.....

Do this: get a tongue scraper and use it on your tongue whenever you brush your teeth. Follow that up with brushing your tongue, then rinse with mouth wash. Trust me, it works wonders.

Good luck.

Its perfectly normal.
It happens to everybody.
Usually its the bacteria accumulating overnight.
Also, if you have a drooling problem, then the saliva just stinks up your mouth.
I have a drooling problem (GROSS!) so thats my reason why I wake up with bad breath.

vagabondxanarch
It's just bacteria that builds up and dies in your mouth overnight. If the problem persists after your morning brush and floss it's probably halitosis or something else similiar. But morning breath hits everyone i think, I've never bounced out of bed with minty fresh breath.

is normal but it helps if you wake up in the morning as i do you should go to the bathroom and brush your teeth, when i wake up sometimes in the middle of the night i go directely to brush my teeth and in the morning is not too bad my breath.

Everyone's breath smells in the morning - so don't worry. Just brush your teeth and your tongue as soon as you get up.

You may be a bit dehydrated - try drinking extra water during the day and before bed - and that might help. You may also be a mouth breather - which can dry out your mouth and make your breath stale - but there's really not a lot you can do about that.

Arachnid
Bacteria have time to reproduce in your mouth and they give off methane and other fumes.

Have you never had this before. It is morning breath. It is caused by bacterial aerobic reactions in your mouth

it is just the bacteria in your mouth sitting overnight, human mouths are a breeding place for all sorts of nasty germs. It is normal....just brush when you get up....

If your teeth are healthy you need to check your Gums. Try Drinking lot of water before you sleep. Probably an hour or so before you sleep so that you do not wake up in the night. Doing so should help any bacteria in your throat to slip down and remove some bad breath.
Also try using mouth wash before you sleep..

Morning breath, baby! Get used to it! It's normal and healthy, and really gross, is worse when you have something sweet to eat before bed (or a lot of Garlic the night before) and make for some hilarious teasing with your significant other!

Have fun and then brush your teeth!

Thats perfectly normal! Dont worry about that! That happens to a lot of people. Your mouth is relaxing at night and not really opening or erecieving fluids or foods and becaue you are layind down some of the small particles of food are coming back up from your throat into your mouth...mkaing that odor. I thinka lmost everyone has it.

Good Luck and dont worry!

This may have something to do with your diet and I believe there are actually pics or something you can take that the dentist can provide.... I remember like.... a LOOOOONG time ago when I got my teeth checked I asked that and they gave me this sample pack of either pills or gum or something that helped lesson bad breath - but your right many times it has nothing to do with how clean your mouth it. I'd suggest doing a simple search on google or calling your primary care physician, you may not need to actually see a dentist for this type of pill/gum or whatever they give these days. But also, consider your diet too, that may be part of the issue.

Sue
Because the mouth is dry and inactive during the night, the odor is usually worse upon awakening ("morning breath"). Also try brushing your tounge more often it collects bacterea Heres more info on it.

Could be gastrointestinal related. Any sort of reflux can leave a bad taste and foul odor.
Excessive sinus drainage can also leave you with an odor in your mouth.

Everybody has 'morning breath'. There is nothing you can do about it. There are some pills that you can find at the drug store that claim to cure morning breath, but I don't know if they actually do anything.

It's just bacteria that is trapped in your mouth for the whole night. Perfectly normal.

Science Geek
It's called morning breath. Everybody has it when they wake up. You can't get rid of it. It comes from your body secreting an Antibacterial agent into your mouth (it does so every 24 hours).
