i got braces about..2 months ago, i think.
and just got them tightened monday.
yes it DOES hurt more the next day because
it takes until the next day for them to start taking effect on your teeth. its normal, yes.
but i would definetely definetely definetely reccomend taking some sort of painkiller.

oh buddy, i know how ya feel.
but mine dont hurt as bad.
try Motrin, Tylenol, or ibprofin.
try eating a mushed up banana. yum.
applesauce, yogurt, and ice cream helps sooth the pain.
good luck!

Believe me, I've been there. I've had my braces on since last March, and I'm only supposed to have them for 18 months so i'll see how that goes.
But yeah, the pain sucks. And you're really just going to have to live through it. There's Orajel, yeah it's probably bad to use the whole tube in one week, but it's worth it. It NUMBS your whole mouth. Just rub it on the inside and the top of your teeth. I'm using it now because I have braces on two of my upper side teeth and it hurts soooo bad.
Trust me dude, it's so worth it though. In about a few months, you'll be able to feel the difference. And it's a good excuse to stay home from going anywhere too! :) Good luck.

I know i know, Get some Advil, Tylenol. And what you also do is get saltwater. (i just mixed salt with water :S) and rinse your mouth with it so no canker sores and stuff will form.
And try not to tlak because if you hit your teeth against eachother OMG IT KILLS!!!!!!!! your best bet is just a headache medicine like i suggested before. And i barely ate that day. I ate like rice. Rice is great when you want 20000 of something. :)
good luck :D
And the person that answered before me. You cannot be more wrong. HES HYGENE IS FINE. He jsut got braces! God lol. Don't lsiten to him, hes tlaking about some mombojumbo.

oh trust me hun ive been there. just take Advil or a painkiller every few hours. it will ease the pain but it will still hurt when you touch them. it will only last for about 3-4 days and then they'll be fine. when you first get braces on is the most painfull part. when you get them tightened, it will feel like that but just not to that extreme. you just gotta suck it up for another 2 days

aww I remember the braces were sooo painful. So the first thing to know is that this is totally normal! By next week, you're pain will be totally gone, and the pain after today will slowly get better...
Try eating soft foods, like yogurt and jello, and fruit juices... nothing you can do now otherwise... try not to eat foods where u need to chew
good luck

you should go back to ur dentist because ur gum should just be sore but if its really painful and nothing could touch it its either the doctor made a mistake or ur gums are irritated and none of those are good rush to a doctor and find out the problem u might just have to take them off and get them re-done again at a different dentist

That happened to me when i got my braces on. Just take some tylonol and you should be o.k. or some iv profin.other than that there isn't really anything you can do. Try eating soft foods like pudding that you don't have to chew that will reduce the pain also. food suggestions
1. pudding
2.apple sauce
3.bread
4. soup

pain meds. yeah its gonna hurt for a few days. sorry. be greatful you dont have a platial expander. its that thing they have to put in the roof of your mouth and you turn with a "key" twice a day. THATS painful. my mom had to sit on my chest to keep me down, and turn it 2 clicks 2 times a day. she felt sooo bad because she could tell how much pain it caused. it felt like she was splitting my head open.

Unfortunately, it's gonna hurt for a while. Try Tylenol. It will also hurt for a couple of days each time you have them adjusted.

Heyy!
Well i was the same! brushing my teeth hurt like hell!!!
Buts its okay, it will all be over in a few days, and when i get them tightened, i cant really tell the difference after a few hours!
Well eat things like mashed potato and soup, things you dont have to chew basically, and a parocetemol will help loads!
i wouldnt worry if i were you, and remember it will all be worth it when you have perfect teeth!!
Good luck with them lol!!

It's normal. Take some medicine for the pain and give it time, that's all you can do. You can also try to buy numbing cream for the inside of your mouth at a local pharmacy.

Everybody has that same problem, when i first got mine they hurt for like a week or two and they were really sore and painful. I couldn't even eat for like 2 days, all i ate was soup.
All that i can say is jus eat something that will melt in your mouth like ice cream or just eat soup or banana and if you want other foods that you have to chew, try chewing it with your tongue it worked for me, Good Luck and you will be in pain for awhile so take some moltren (it will help a little bit)
- when your in pain, get a cold, cold water bottle or glass and get a straw and drink it and when you do, let it hit your teeth, it feels much better, you wont feel the pain until you stop drinking but it helps......GOOD LUCK!!!

okay this is a little weird but i have braces too and i would stuff a really little bit of paper against my jaw because it would hurt my gums and jaw but if your teeth hurt then take Advil and always keep a small bottle with you or you can rinse your mouth with super cold water or suck a piece of ice i am exactly in the same place as youhope it works

The first few days are the worst, it will be painful for the next few weeks. After a couple months, whether or not the pain is less, you will have gotten used to it.

when i first got my braces two months ago, they hurt alot. And i couldent eat everything i wanted. Just try not to eat so many hard foods. And try to eat softer styff like yogurt and fruits. And if the braces cut your mouth, put some wax on it. After a week or so, it will stop hurting as much. Though the pain comes back for like no reason from time to tme.

Take some Tylenol.. its going to be painful.. sorry to say.. the younger you are when you get them, the easier it is.. the pain will go away after a couple of days when your teeth adjust to the pressure and weight. You can also rub some orajel on the gums to help numb them.. eat really soft foods.
they will hurt like this everytime you go to get them adjusted/tightened/ new bands even. you get used to the pain (i had braces for 5 years)

They will hurt for a little awhile. When I had my braces the first few weeks I would put this wax stuff on the brackets so they wouldn't scrape the the sides of my mouth. Eventually the sides of your mouth will harden (it sounds weird, but you wont even notice) Try taking some mild pain Reliever, I don't know your medical history, but you should know what you can or can not take. When you go in to get them tighten they will hurt a little too. Your mouth will get them use to it. The first week is the the most painful. And try to avoid really hard to eat and chewy hard foods. It will get better. The pain is only your teeth slowly moving into place.

Take some pain medicine, like Advil or Tylenol. Eat really soft foods, like bread and maybe ice cream. Small pieces help too. The pain will go away, it just takes some getting used too.
