Eat soft foods there will probably be lots of swelling

You can expect 'chipmunk cheeks' (aka swelling) and bruising for apporximately two (2) weeks after the operation, it is also quite difficult to talk and swallow. You will also be on medication to help reduce pain and swelling for about a week afterwards, so if you can organise time off work/school, it would be the best thing to do as the medication can make you quite drousy/dizzy, so take Gentle care of yourself.

On the upside you learn to love eating every meal thru a straw. And you will also get alot of sympathy and after the two weeks, you wouldn't even know you'd had them out..

Totally don't worry about it, and when you get shots, RELAX, if you tense up when you get a shot it will only hurt worse, and when you are done, don't plan on doing anything for at least half a week. It was OK when I got mine out but I have a high-tolerance to pain.. lets just say afterwards you bleed alot and eat lots of pudding.

Don't try to eat anything hard like candy.
If you must eat something sweet, try a milkshake.
It will hurt A LOT if you bite on something hard like a jolly rancher or m&m's.

Use salt and hot water to swish in your mouth several times a day to help it heal faster and stop infection!

I was fine until I spent time in airconditioning that was quite cold. Then I got a dry socket, you don't want that! So I'd say keep out of airconditioning and keep the sockets clean,.

I wish you the best of luck!!! May your wisdom tooth removal be as quick and painless as possible!!

Until your time has come, just relax your mind and try to do something fun that you enjoy to take your mind off of your impending tooth removal. Watch a funny TV show to get your mind off things and help you relax. I would suggest that you eat something, because after you get your teeth removed, you may be hungry, but you're not going to want to eat or even move your jaw for a long time.

When you go to the office, you might be scared inside, but try to act calm on the outside. Remember that when they numb your jaw and start to remove the tooth, be very still and don't move so that they won't make a mistake. Just be very still and you'll be fine. It might only take an hour or so-- that's all-- and then you'll get to go home.

You should only feel a pinch of pain when they're actually numbing you. It's the recovery that will take you the longest time. Remember to get extra gauze before you leave in case you run out. And when you go to the dentist office, bring a pad and paper so you can write down what you want to say if you can't say it with your mouth.

Again, I hope it goes well. Best of luck!!

Relax. There's nothing else you can do anyway. It'll be okay. Your dentist will take good care of you.

When you leave the office, take the pain meds as soon as possible. I waited about an hour to take mine, and I was in a lot of pain b/c they didn't kick in in time. It will feel like you can't swallow them b/c you will be so numb, but take them anyway. You will regret it if you don't.

keep the icepacks up, only eat soft nutricious foods, and get some LIQUID Chlorophyll !!! u can get it form the pharmacy, or health food places so you can wash your mouth out with it. seriouslly i know that sounds werid and the stuff is green but i had mine out and it works like a dream form keeping out infections and healing faster.

good luck

Wow these people have scared me half to death as long as you don't have their dentist I would not worry at all. I was scared stiff to have my pulled and in the end one had to come out without any notice in the dentist chair. I never understood what the drama was and why I put up with it so long. In the dentist chair just like getting any other tooth out just a lot noisier but no more painful, in and out all done within 10 minutes. Back at work in 15 mins (although I would advise taking the rest of the day easy if you are able to). The only painkillers required were regular Panadol. The most irritating part is eating for the first few hours and getting use to the massive crater in your mouth. I went back three weeks later (Christmas Eve) and had my second out without problems as well in fact enjoyed my Christmas lunch the next day. The anticipation is far worse than the event try and relax don't worry too much and in a few days it will be nothing but a memory.

what happens when a tooth is taken out is the hole fills up with blood. for the next 24 hours that blood clot is very fragile so everything you do will be aimed at preserving it, meaning healing will be alot shorter. How you'll do this is fairly easy. go straight home after the procedure and put your feet up. no exercise of any kind because it increases your blood pressure and can cause bleeding of the socket. if you're a smoker or drinker, it's very advisable if you can not do these things for at least 24 hours. the sucking action from smoking can cause the clot to come out. next step, leave the site alone! don't put your finger there, fork, chopsticks, toothpick, toothbrush just stay away from it. saliva will break down any food caught in there. Starting from the morning of the next day, warm salt water mouth washes. water as warm as you can bear it and a teaspoon of salt and instead of swishing or rinsing (which can disturb the blood clot by motion), instead tilt your head to the side of the site and let the water sit there for a few minutes. the warmth promotes blood to the site and the blood promotes healing. you should be taking a pain medication with Ibuprofen in it, unless advises not to for health reasons by your doctor (also ask the dentist about this). if you take the recommended dose as you leave the clinic it will start to work before the anaesthetic wears off. take as recommended on the pack instead of when you feel pain, this way you'll stay ahead of it. last but not least, nothing too spicy or hard (no chilli or corn chips for dinner!). try sandwichs, soups, mashed potatoes. if you have any pain from the site 2-3 days later, call the clinic. it usually means the clot has fallen out and you have what is known as a dry socket. they should be able to help you

Have lots of ice packs on hand - get the pain pill prescription filled immediately, have someone stay with you the first few hours and make sure you have paper and a pen handy to write down what you need as you won't feel like talking and may not be understood. Good luck - remember it's the only time you need to do this.
