Braces are a good thing, not a bad one. It may seem bad now, but in the future, you'll be SO glad you had them!! I have a friend that has an overbite, but is still very beautiful. She WISHES her parents could have afforded braces!!!!
I had them too.....in high school!!!!! (rubber bands and all!)
She's doing what's right for you, not trying to punish you.

I think if you really don't want them then you shouldn't have them. It should be your choice. I have to say though - I had them and I'm glad I did. I hated them when I had them but people always comment on how nice my smile and teeth look now. Mine weren't that crooked either. If you're going to do it it's best to do it when you're young and get it over with. Believe me - one day it will be over and how self conscious you felt wearing them will not matter anymore and you'll be happier with your smile. Plus I wore metal ones. Now they make them clear so if you do get them you're getting off much easier.

I don't know any kid that WANTS braces, but if your teeth aren't that bad to begin with, you probably won't have to wear them long, anyway, sometimes braces are needed to correct teeth that will get worse over time. It really is better to do it now rather than wait until it really will be painful and long. My poor sister waited until she was almost 30 before she finally got braces and she was miserable. Good luck, it won't be so bad, I promise

If you don't want braces then that is your business. Maybe your Mom is afraid you might want them later down the line when it would be more difficult for you. If your teeth don't bother you then I think you should leave them alone, we don't all need to look alike...Best Wishes!!

Getting your teeth in the right position will really make a difference to you when you are an adult. You would be surprised at how many adults are suffering through wearing braces to correct problem teeth. Your slightly crooked teeth will only get worse as you age. The easiest time to correct these is now, when you are young. It's really no big deal and it won't ruin your social life. Be grateful that you have a mom who is willing to pay for braces. You will really be happy with the results, I promise you. I've had two kids that wore braces and the difference it made in their appearances is dramatic. Trust your mom on this one. You don't want to be wearing braces in your 20s or 30s because you were too stubborn to listen now.

An orthodontist will not put braces on your teeth unless you need them. If your problem is fairly minor, I think you can get clear braces.

It's hard to answer because there's no way to know if you're too close to the situation to give an objective assessment of your own need for braces. Maybe you don't really need them, and maybe your teeth currently belong in a circus sideshow.
Assuming the truth is somewhere in between, I would say suck it up and get the braces. You'll hate them now, but when you're older and you've got good teeth you'll be grateful. I know that's one of those really unsatisfying "adult" answers, but I'm afraid it's the truth.

Actually I agree with that kind of thinking. Overbites can be unique and attractive and my wife has one, and I would never want her to change it. Time to sit down with mom AND the dentist to discuss the matter among all of you. The dentist will likely have enough experience with others in your situation to give your feelings support, but he may also provide your with medically sound reasons for having the braces. Keep an open mind and include the dentist in your decision making.

Kid, if you don't get braces now, to correct your teeth, later in life you will have big time problem with your teeth and it will cost a whole lot more to repair your teeth then it would to put braces in you know. It will only be for a few years. I had braces when I was a kid, like may others and we all sourvived. And you will too, and one day you'll thank your mother for doing it.

First ask yourself why you don't want braces. If your parent is willing to foot the bill, let them. Braces don't have to be the silver wired mouth image of the past. They now have clear braces made of clear plastic and also have removable tray braces (such as Invisalign). However, if you truly are not ready for braces, just let your mom know how you feel and see if she will reconsider the subject at a later date once both of your have had more time to think about the braces issue.

I have braces and its not bad! you dont even feel that you have them but retainers really suck because its hard to talk with them. I think that you should get braces. you'll be glad you did after a few years.

I never really needed or wanted braces, but I now see that it was a good decision to get them. Even though you have never had any problems with your teeth (just like I never had any problems with mine), it doesn't mean that you never will. If you are still growing, your teeth have the potential to get worse, and braces can prevent that. Plus, if your teeth are not that bad, you won't have to have the braces for that long, and I guarantee that you will be happy with the results. Plus, straight teeth are good for proper food digestion. And you are being given an opportunity that not all people can afford. I say get them. Worse things could happen.

Get Invisibraces...they are completely invisible, they are removable (you only wear them a certain amount of time each day), and they work just as well as the old fashioned metal ones. You will love the outcome and have PERFECT teeth when its done!

Just get them, sweetie...you'll survive. Practically all of us have had them. I had them for 4 years, was a twig, a nerd, and all the other crap that gets made fun of...and now I'm better looking than all of those snooty girls who made fun of me (and they're all fat and ugly!).
Besides...if your teeth aren't that bad then you'll probably only need them for a short time....so grin and bear it! :-)

get over it...get them because your small over bite will become a bigger problem and more painful as you get older...it happened to me so deal with it while you are young...have your mom pay for clear braces they are less noticeable and are not that much more money
