Most of the time people tell me that it is better to get a cavity pulled out. The filling can fall out as time goes by. It does not hurt for them to pull your tooth out. They will stick your gum with a needle to numb the area. You shoulf get it pulled out, byt that is my opinion.

the only thing that hurts is when they first shoot the novecaine into your gums then the rest you can't feel. you can tell they're doing something but you cant feel anything

Doesn't really hurt since there no blood etc, but a bad cavity will mean they have to drill out the bad bits, and that makes the tooth all numb, like an electric shock. It feels kinda weird but it doesnt hurt like what happens when you pull out a tooth. Good luck.

the only part that hurts a little is the sting from the novacaine shot(s). it's not that bad. some dentists use no2 instead, so you might want to ask about that.

It hurts a bit getting a filling but it hurts even worse getting a root canal. If u don't get your cavity filled than you will eventually need a root canal and that is the worst dental experience possible...Pain medicine will be required.

NO!!! It will not hurt! The dentist will give you a shot...which stings for about 2 seconds...and then works on your tooth and you don't feel anything...it's so not a big deal!
Don't worry another minute over this..just be glad that we have dentists...and that it is basically pain free!! ♥

Yes it can hurt if the novacain doesn't work, Ive had one that I swear I felt the whole time and it was very painful, and Ive had two more that I didn't feel at all, I think it depends on how well the dentist administers the meds.

It's not horrifically painful, but it's pretty uncomfortable getting a filling, well I think it is anyway, and in my experience the bigger the cavity, the more uncomfortable it is getting the filling. I've had small fillings that have been fine, but I've had a couple of pretty deep fillings and they weren't a whole lot of fun, both times as they drilled deeper into the tooth I started to feel pain and they had to stop and give me another injection of local anaesthetic, but after that it was alright. I think the worst parts are the injection (but that only hurts for about 10 seconds) and holding your mouth open for that long, especially for deeper fillings. Just make sure if you feel any pain when they start drilling you let them know so that they can give you more novocaine.

i had a really bad cavity that was hurting.
i went to the dentist.
they get this stuff that tastes kind Of like you would think a ceiling tile would and this white gun with a orange piece of plastic on it. Somehow you get this taste in your mouth and they shine the gun/light in your mouth.
It totally doesn't hurt except for holding your mouth open for a while.
After if your young enough they let you pick out a prize.
Also in the following visits when they poke it with the sharp pointy tool that makes an awful noise when they scrape you teeth hurts it.
Sometimes fillings fall out, then it hurts cause its like pried open or something..

Modern dentistry has eliminated 99.9% of the pain so you will feel nothing regardless of what others say here.

It wont hurt when the dentist is actually putting the filling in. He/she will inject some local anasthetic into the gum next to the tooth first. I never even realised what was happening till I heard the drill! lol. But the drill doesnt hurt coz you will be numb from the anasthetic. It may hurt a little afterwards but you can just take some regular painkillers for that. And dont eat anything too hot afterwards , as the anasthetic will need to wear off and you may burn yourself! lol

It doesn't really hurt if you have a decent dentist. It takes my dentist about 5 or 10 min. for my dentist to put my filling in. But if it's a really bad cavity, it might hurt a little.

as long as they freeze your mouth good enough, you hardly don't feel anything aside from the needle(s) used for the freezing. if you feel pain after freezing, speak up and the doc should give you more

Usually they give you a numbing medication and that can pinch a bit. Other than that it depends on how close they are drilling to a nerve. You can take it though.

Haha dont worry about, if your filling is that deep then they will probably use a good amount of novacaine to numb your mouth. you wont feel a thing trust me. the worst part about it is thinking about how much its going to hurt and know you dont have to worry anymore.

This is the most common question I get from my patients (I work with only children so you can imagine their fear). I can say with complete confidence to them that it doesn't hurt at all since the very same dentist that will be doing their fillings, filled mine too! A good dentist will numb the area first with an injection. Ask him/her to go very slow. What stings is not the needle like most people think, it's the novocaine that is injected. You will not feel anything if they go very slow. The filling itself it a breeze. You will have strange tastes from the stuff they will use and hear some scary noises. Bring an ipod or something with your favorite music so you don't get wigged out. Good luck!

I have had 2 fillings done and I was scared to death but it was not that bad. the shot that they give you to numb it hurts just a little and then you just feel pressure like pushing on your teeth with your finger and that is it.

No way. I don't know why people are afraid of the dentists these days. It may have hurt 10 years ago, but now with the new technology, it's a breeze. Sometimes you may feel a little pressure, but hardly ever any pain (and if yes, then it's bearable). At least that's how I feel.

Depends. I got cavities filled over 10 times and it never hurt until the last time. As long as your numb, it shouldn't hurt. It may be a little sore after. The last time, the Novocaine didn't work on me and I felt it the entire time. I think that was from getting 10+ shots of Novocaine to get a root canal a few weeks before that. I have been having problems with me being numb lately. I have no idea why. I wouldn't be worried. You will be fine.

They'll put a Topical Anesthetic on the gum, then inject a local anesthetic. This injection can sometimes hurt a bit but not nearly as bad as having a cavity filled without it! Try not to be too nervous; going to the dentist is a part of life that has to be done. It's also proven that poor dental care can cause really serious health issues as you get older, so TAKE CARE OF THE TEETH.

I just got one done not too long ago...same thing as you, I had a hole. They drilled off about a quarter of my tooth. I got 6 shots in my mouth over the course of the whole time. You can't feel much with that much numbing agent in you. Then they used the sand-blaster. Don't be scared by that...it's just what they call the filling. That was the worst part. I could kinda feel it. Afterwards, the right side of my face was so numb, I couldn't feel when I bit it. Also, when I smiled, only half of my mouth moved. Watch out for drool. lol
