mmv	I work in the dental field and all of our patients who have them say that they were so suprised as to how fast it was and it wasnt painful like they thought it would be. The technology has gotten so much better and especially if you go to an endodontist (who specializes in root canals) thats all that they do all day, so they can be really be easy and painless. dollie24	Not unless the tooth is badly infected. Bad infection of the tooth will result in not being able to get the tooth numb. Root canals do not hurt, your dentist will get you sufficently numb for the procedure if at all possible. Root canals are seriously boring! cristabellajolie	There are factors at play though. It depends on how bad an infection you have. If it's bad, it's hard to numb the area. Also, the dentist could have to drain some of the infection and then you take antibiotics for 10 days. Also, it depends on the dentist. Some are pure buttholes. ark_bc	I just had one about 2 months ago and I had no problem with it. I took three visits to get it done, but the pain was minor if any at all. Your gum may be sore for a day, but it won't be too bad. If you're nervous, you can always ask for the gas... Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

Danaerys	I've had a couple and no, they didn't hurt. The numbing injections hurt a little, but once I was numb, I didn't feel anything. Even after the numbness wore off I was fine. The worst thing about root canals, in my opinion, is that they take a long time and it's boring. My dentist now has these VR goggles so you can watch a movie while they're messing around in there.
