Toothpaste is necessary - electric toothbrush will remove only dirt and rest of food from your teeth while toothpaste is removing germs and bacterias as well as protects your teeth and gums.

Yes, use toothpaste. You may find you need slightly less owing to the superior cleaning action of the electric brush, and the foaming action it produces. (Incidentally, the foam bit is uneccessary, and is put in by the manufacturers to make us feel that we are doing a good cleaning job). Most whitening toothpastes don't do such a great job, imo. I'd stick with a tried and tested brand like Colgate Total which does a good job of cleaning AND protecting.
